As Lucy gazed at the Night City, which resembled a cage, she began recounting her past.

The buildings marked with the Arasaka Corporation logo appeared in her memories—cold, steel structures that created a suffocating sense of oppression. As a child, Lucy was among a group of 13 children who were trained and transformed into network hackers by Arasaka's foreign branches.

The corporation instilled in them the belief that they would one day become top hackers serving the most powerful companies in the world. For this vague dream, Lucy and her peers endured severe training and trials.

Despite completing these rigorous tests, they were not assigned to any department within Arasaka. Instead, they were sent to a dark underground facility for deep infiltration missions.

Lucy softly said, "They sent us to the Old Net."

David interjected, "The Old Net is the domain that collapsed about half a century ago?"

"Yes," Lucy confirmed. "It was taken down by the greatest hacker in history, the founder of the Shadow Network—Rach Bartmos."

"A legendary fugitive who hacked 78% of the global networks," David remarked.

At this point, the story piqued the reader's curiosity about Rach Bartmos, a figure in the cyberpunk world equivalent to legendary figures in other fictional universes. Rach Bartmos' actions had isolated various network regions, turning the Old Net into a dangerous no-man's land filled with illegal software and hostile AI.

Hackers could explore this perilous area with their minds, but acquiring data meant facing aggressive attacks from these remnants.

However, such dangers also meant that valuable treasures might be hidden within the Old Net. Arasaka had trained Lucy and her team to explore this hazardous domain in search of these lost technologies.

The harsh reality was that Lucy and her partners faced constant danger, and many perished in the Old Net. Arasaka was indifferent to their deaths, viewing them merely as expendable resources.

"These bastards!" The reader's frustration with the capitalist companies and the grim world of cyberpunk was evident. Such a world often mirrored the harsh realities of human exploitation and the bleakness of existence.

Lucy and David were entrenched in this despairing world. When Lucy and her remaining companions realized Arasaka's promises were empty, they chose to rebel. Using the skills they had been taught, they killed their guards and escaped, eventually finding refuge in Night City.

Hearing Lucy's story made David feel sorrowful. But now, with Lucy by his side, there was hope for a better future.

Suddenly, David's left cybernetic arm began to tremble uncontrollably. Lucy noticed the anomaly and expressed concern. David, trying to appear nonchalant, said, "It's nothing. It'll pass in a moment."

This alarmed fans, who worried about David's condition. Lucy, worried about David living for others' dreams, touched his trembling arm and shared her fear of losing him one day.

As they shared this moment, Lucy's cybernetic eye flickered with static. The scene shifted to a hacker trying to recover crucial data but being attacked. The hacker was overpowered by an assailant, who was revealed to be Lucy, her eyes glowing red and showing no mercy.
