Chapter 92: Beyond the Edge

### Chapter 92: Beyond the Edge

As David's cyber-psychosis symptoms worsen, even after returning home, the hallucinations continue to torment him. Chen Wenrui is understandably worried, fearing that David might become violent like Mann did, especially with only Lucy around.

However, instead of attacking anyone, David suddenly collapses on the floor and loses consciousness.

"David…"

Lucy's concerned voice calls out to him.

David's collapse is a relief compared to Mann's uncontrollable violence.

The scene shifts to David waking up in a familiar black market doctor's clinic. Lucy, wearing a coat, is seen sleeping against the wall, having brought David there.

The black market doctor begins questioning David, "When did this start?"

"What?"

"Shaking hands, dizziness, nausea—you've experienced all of that, right?"

The doctor, with a strange smile, addresses David.

"For some time now…"

David weakly responds.

Their conversation reveals that David's condition is far worse than previously shown. It's not just mild cyber-psychosis but a severe case.

The doctor advises David to halt all cybernetic modifications. "Pause any further cybernetics for now. You're on the edge of cyber-psychosis."

Chen Wenrui is alarmed by this. Being on the edge means David is one step away from becoming a full-blown cyber-psychopath.

Yet, just like Mann, David refuses to stop. With a near-mad look, he demands, "Then give me stronger medication!"

"Are you out of your mind? There's no cure for this condition!" The doctor replies.

David loses control, grabbing the doctor by the neck and pinning him against the wall. His eyes now display the "Cyber-Psychosis" marker.

"Hand over the drugs now! Isn't it all about the money for you?!"

David's drastic behavior, attacking someone he's familiar with, indicates just how severe his condition has become. It even wakes up the sleeping Lucy.

"David!"

Lucy's call brings David back to his senses, and he releases the doctor.

The doctor reluctantly provides David with a powerful immunosuppressant. "Here, this is the last prescription I'll give you. It's nine times the standard dose, enough for nine uses."

"This will push you to the edge, until you lose control completely and meet your end…"

"Take these drugs, and it means you won't be coming back…"

"You should know, once you cross that edge, there's no turning back…"

"Go ahead, become the legend of Cyberpunk, or whatever."

David, carrying the medication and feeling apologetic, leaves the clinic with Lucy.

As they depart, the doctor, sitting on the floor, reflects on David's situation with a sense of resignation.

"Your legend, I'll make sure to pass it on…"

Chen Wenrui feels conflicted upon hearing this. He recalls a previous hallucination from Mann, which mentioned:

"In Night City, there are no living legends."

Is the doctor implying that David, like other legends of Night City, will ultimately meet a tragic end?

After leaving the clinic, David and Lucy have a heated argument. Lucy, trying to persuade David to pause or downgrade his cybernetics, wants him to focus on living a good life with her rather than pursuing further modifications.

David, however, stubbornly clings to his decision, understanding why Mann refused to downgrade his cybernetics. It's a matter of responsibility and gambling on being unique even if it means becoming a cyber-psychopath.

In a surprising turn, David suggests to Lucy, "Maybe it's better if we part ways."

Is David breaking up with Lucy? Chen Wenrui realizes David is concerned about losing control and potentially harming Lucy.

Lucy, however, refuses to accept David's decision. She detects another hacker from Aohara Corporation and decides to deal with the threat before addressing David's concerns.

"We'll talk more when we get home!" Lucy says hurriedly, heading off to confront the hacker.

Just as Lucy plans to deal with the hacker, her system suffers a massive attack, causing sparks and rendering her unconscious.

In the final panel, Faraday and Qiwei appear.

"Excellent, this will be our ticket to Aohara," Faraday says with satisfaction.

Chen Wenrui's eyes widen in shock. Qiwei and Faraday together? Could Qiwei have betrayed David and sold out Lucy?

This seems impossible—betrayal from a trusted ally is unexpected. Yet, Chen Wenrui recalls Qiwei's advice about not trusting anyone in Night City.

Could Qiwei's betrayal be a reflection of the harsh reality in Night City, where trust and morality are as flimsy as a piece of paper?

Seeing the chapter end here, Chen Wenrui is left in suspense, feeling the cliffhanger acutely.

"Ahhh! I'm so frustrated!" Chen Wenrui exclaims, clutching his hair and showing his distress.

"Chen… teacher?" A concerned female colleague approaches him after class, noticing his discomfort. "Are you feeling unwell? Do you need to see a doctor?"

"No! I'm fine!" Chen Wenrui quickly regains his composure and reassures her.

But once she returns to her seat, he sighs while looking at the manga. "Does the author really intend to kill off David and Lucy?"

The final segment of the plot will be briefly summarized, with changes made as needed based on reader feedback.

The story will wrap up next Monday, with a focus on anime production, game releases, and the debut of "Chainsaw Man."
