Chapter 99: Adam Smasher

**Chapter 99: Adam Smasher

Zhou Wenwei opened the magazine and immediately flipped to the last chapter of *Edge Runners*.

Chapter 38... "The Final Moon Trip."

What does this title mean?

A moon trip... Could David and Lucy still be alive and actually make it to the moon? Or is this just their final fantasy before death?

But these thoughts only flashed through Zhou Wenwei's mind for a brief moment. He didn't dwell on them. Instead, he continued reading the final chapter of *Edge Runners*.

The previous chapter ended with David, Rebecca, and Falco causing a major disturbance in the streets of Night City, preparing to storm Arasaka Tower to rescue Lucy. This chapter picks up right where the last one left off.

However, the first event to unfold is Kiwi's demise.

After everything was said and done, Faraday, intending to head to Arasaka Tower with Lucy, was betrayed by Kiwi, who, feeling guilty for betraying David and Lucy, decided not to cooperate with Faraday any longer.

"I'm done taking jobs from you," Kiwi said.

But at that moment...

*Bang—*

Kiwi looked in disbelief at the bullet hole in her chest.

Faraday had shot her.

Because Faraday had fired from behind one of his henchmen, Kiwi hadn't seen it coming.

The henchman's chest deformed, revealing Faraday's weaponized cybernetic arm. It seemed that this particular henchman's cybernetics were designed to allow Faraday to shoot from behind without being detected. This highlighted just how cunning and deceitful Faraday truly was.

In Night City, if you aren't driven by self-interest and aren't willing to be deceitful, you can't survive as a fixer. And Faraday... was one of the best.

As Kiwi's eyes widened in shock, Faraday seemed to mock her naivety. "I get it, but the contract clearly states: terminate anyone who knows about the Sandevistan. No exceptions, including you. Sorry."

Despite his words, it was clear from the beginning that Faraday had planned to shoot Kiwi, given how he positioned himself behind the specially modified henchman.

However, Kiwi, being a netrunner, reacted quickly. After hacking and disrupting Faraday's nervous system, she made her escape.

"Quick, chase her down, and don't let her get away," Faraday ordered his henchmen, not willing to let Kiwi off the hook so easily. He then took off with Lucy in a hovercar, heading straight for Arasaka Tower.

Meanwhile, David, along with Rebecca and Falco, had arrived near Arasaka Tower. The private police force sent by Arasaka was no match for them and was quickly annihilated, thanks to Rebecca and Falco's teamwork with David's overwhelming power from the Sandevistan.

At this point, Arasaka's two top counterintelligence officers were starting to panic. Under pressure from David, they decided to unleash Arasaka's ultimate weapon—Adam Smasher.

"But even if we call him now..."

"Don't worry, he's already here."

On the other side of the screen, a towering, fully cybernetically enhanced figure sat on a sofa. His entire body was covered in black cybernetics, except for a half-human face that remained.

However, even that half-human face made one wonder if it was his original skin.

Adam Smasher's mere appearance, without uttering a single word, exuded a suffocating sense of oppression, letting Zhou Wenwei and other fans know that this was the true final boss of *Edge Runners*.

"I heard that the Sandevistan was originally designed for him. It's only fitting that he be the one to finish this."

The Sandevistan... was designed specifically for Adam Smasher?

Zhou Wenwei was shocked. But even so, that doesn't necessarily mean he can overpower David, who now wields the Sandevistan. Although David's fate seems destined to end in tragedy, he should still be able to cause a massive ruckus in Arasaka, maybe even take down Adam Smasher in the process.

On the other hand, David, now with the Sandevistan, was experiencing worsening cyberpsychosis. He began seeing flashbacks, with hallucinations of Tanaka, the wealthy classmate who bullied him.

However, in reality, Arasaka's mobile units and counter-terrorism squads had surrounded him. But to David, suffering from his illness, it was as if Tanaka himself was attacking him. He immediately went berserk.

David activated the time-stopping ability of the Sandevistan.

With the Sandevistan paired with the Sandevistan, David wiped out Arasaka's mobile unit in one move.

Next, he hallucinated his older brother, Maine, appearing before him. David found himself reliving the night he regretted not standing by Maine's side, and this time, he wouldn't run away.

"Screw you, counter-terrorism squad! Come at me!"

The powerful counter-terrorism squad was also wiped out by the rampaging David.

Then, he saw his mother, Gloria, in another flashback, recalling the trauma team's cold, heartless words during that accident he was helpless to stop.

"Mom!"

The memory sent David into a full-blown rage, where he took down several of the counter-terrorism squad's hovercars.

"Damn it! Is he a monster?"

"Keep firing!"

"Wait... there's a new order from Arasaka. Code AS. We're retreating!"

[Translator: sauron]

...

The counter-terrorism squad received orders from Arasaka to retreat immediately.

David returned to the car where Rebecca and Falco were waiting, but after using the Sandevistan and Sandevistan at full power, David was struggling, coughing up blood.

At that moment, Rebecca administered a dose of immunosuppressant to David.

"Rebecca... how many more doses do we have?" David asked.

"Just one left," Rebecca responded, looking at David with concern.

"So, the time has finally come?" David seemed almost excited, feeling no fear anymore.

But then...

Kiwi called... She was about to be killed.

But perhaps out of guilt or resentment for Faraday's betrayal, Kiwi said, "I've sent you the tracking signal installed on Faraday's hovercar."

Leaning against a trash bin on the street, Kiwi remained calm as Faraday's henchmen closed in on her. "Now you know where Faraday is."

"You think we'll trust you again?" Falco replied sternly.

"Who knows? Today's decisions have been nothing but mistakes," Kiwi chuckled bitterly. "I guess we all have days like that..."

She had spent so much time teaching Lucy not to trust anyone in Night City, yet she herself had forgotten that lesson and ended up trusting a scumbag like Faraday.

"I taught Lucy never to trust anyone in Night City, and that wasn't a lie. Everyone here will betray you," Kiwi said with a sad smile. "But now it's Faraday's turn to experience the pain of betrayal."

Finally, as Faraday's henchmen opened fire, she uttered her last words, "Go save Lucy."

Netrunner Kiwi, dead.

As Zhou Wenwei read this, he couldn't help but feel a pang of sorrow.

Before Kiwi betrayed David and Lucy, she was a well-liked member of the main cast, especially since she was practically Lucy's mentor. But her decision to betray Lucy shocked everyone, leading to widespread disdain for her.

However, in hindsight, Kiwi's actions made sense for survival in a place like Night City.

But no matter how you look at it, Kiwi still betrayed David and Lucy, and David was never going to forgive her.

Just when everyone thought Kiwi, the traitor, would meet her end at the hands of David with the Sandevistan, she was ironically betrayed by Faraday and met a tragic death at the hands of his henchmen.

Even in her final moments, she helped David and Rebecca by sending the tracking signal from Faraday's hovercar to Falco.

All one can say is... what a pitiful, hateful, and tragic end...
