The ride back to Alex's hotel was silent. Isabella sat in the passenger seat, her mind racing, replaying everything that had happened. The betrayal, the fear, the confusion—it was too much to process all at once. She had always known Valentina disliked her, but orchestrating a kidnapping was something she never imagined.
Alex glanced at her every few moments, concern etched on his face. He hadn't said much since rescuing her, giving her space to absorb everything. But now, as they neared the hotel, he spoke.
"You don't have to go through this alone, Isabella," Alex said softly, his voice gentle in a way she hadn't heard before. "Come back to Tokyo with me. It's safer there. I can watch over you, and we can figure this out together."
Isabella remained silent for a moment, staring out of the window. Her sister's betrayal had shaken her deeply. She had always felt like the outsider in her family, but this... this was something she had never anticipated.
"I can't believe Victoria would go this far," Isabella finally said, her voice barely above a whisper. "She's always hated me, but kidnapping? I never thought she'd actually do something so… vile."
Alex's grip on the steering wheel tightened. "It wasn't just her. Ethan played a part in this too."
Isabella's stomach twisted at the mention of Ethan's name. She had trusted him. He had been a friend, someone she thought she could rely on. But now, everything seemed tainted with lies.
"Come back to Tokyo," Alex repeated softly. "Let me protect you. I won't let anyone hurt you again."
Isabella turned to look at him, searching his face for any signs of deception. But all she saw was concern—genuine concern that seemed to go beyond his usual cold, guarded demeanor.
"I… I don't know, Alex," Isabella hesitated. "I need time to think."
Alex nodded, understanding her hesitation. "I'll give you time. But don't take too long. Staying here, after what happened, is dangerous. You're not safe."
That night, Isabella lay awake in her hotel room, her mind filled with conflicting emotions. She didn't know what to think anymore. Valentina's betrayal had shattered her trust in her own family, and Ethan's involvement only made it worse.
But then there was Alex. For so long, he had been distant, cold, and at times cruel. Yet in these recent moments, she saw something different in him. He had saved her without hesitation, putting himself at risk for her safety. And now he wanted to take her back to Tokyo, to watch over her and keep her safe.
Could she trust him? Was it possible that he cared for her more than he let on?
As dawn broke, Isabella made her decision.
The next morning, Isabella knocked on Alex's hotel room door. He opened it almost immediately, as if he had been waiting for her.
"I'll go back to Tokyo with you," Isabella said, her voice steady. "But only because I need to figure out what's going on with my family. I can't stay here, not after what happened."
Alex nodded, a flicker of relief passing over his face. "You're making the right choice."
They packed their things quickly and left New York behind, boarding a private jet bound for Tokyo. Isabella's thoughts were still heavy with everything that had happened, but there was also a strange sense of comfort in knowing that Alex would be by her side.
Back in Tokyo, things felt different. Isabella tried to settle into her old routine, but the events in New York had left her feeling uneasy. She couldn't shake the feeling that something bigger was at play. Victoria's betrayal, Ethan's lies—it all felt connected to something deeper, something she didn't yet understand.
Alex, meanwhile, had become more attentive than ever. He didn't leave her side unless he had to, and when he did, he made sure she was always surrounded by people he trusted. But there was something else too—something unspoken between them. The tension that had once been cold and distant now felt charged with something deeper, something that neither of them could fully acknowledge yet.
One evening, as they sat in the quiet of Alex's home, Isabella finally asked the question that had been haunting her.
"Why did you come for me, Alex?" she asked, her voice soft but direct. "Why did you risk everything to save me?"
Alex was silent for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then, he looked at her, his gaze intense.
"Because I couldn't let anything happen to you," he said simply. "I won't let anyone hurt you, Isabella. Not your sister, not Ethan. No one."
Isabella's heart skipped a beat at the raw sincerity in his voice. She had never heard him speak like this before—so open, so vulnerable.
"Alex…" she began, but he cut her off gently.
"I know I've made mistakes," he said quietly. "But I'm not going to lose you, not again. Whatever it takes, I'll keep you safe. And I'll deal with Valentina and Ethan. They won't get away with what they've done."
Isabella nodded, her heart heavy with the weight of his words. She still had so many questions, so many doubts, but for the first time in a long time, she felt like she wasn't alone in this fight.
Maybe, just maybe, Alex wasn't the cold, unfeeling man she had thought he was. Maybe there was more to him than she had ever realized.
