Not So Well Understood

At that moment, the maid thought Molly had gone mad. How could she do such a thing?! After all she had witnessed, including how her master had ended up like this for Molly's sake, how could she still walk toward the doctor? The maid realized something when she had her blood drawn—vampires heal faster when they drink human blood.

If Molly approached now and the doctor drank her blood, none of them would leave here alive!

The maid desperately wanted to do something, but her feet were bound by something dark, preventing her from moving: another vampire trick! She struggled and shouted for Molly not to go, but the doctor just smiled viciously. "She won't listen to you. Molly is already under my hypnosis. You must have wondered why you agreed to betray your master and become my maid all those years ago. It's the same as what's happening to Molly now. You lowly humans can never understand how wonderful the vampires' mental magic truly is."

As the doctor watched Molly step closer to him, he couldn't help but open his arms. He was eager to embrace her and bury his face in her delicate neck, savoring the taste of her enticing blood. His face twisted into a grin, which widened even more as he glanced at the unconscious Adele lying on the floor.

That damned Black family member! She dared to do this to him just because she was a high-and-mighty noble! Still, she truly was a pureblood from the Black family—barely an adult yet already able to fight him to a standstill and even have the upper hand. If it weren't for her naive decision to protect a human maid, he might not have been a match for her.

To be safe, he thought he should kill her later and take this delicious human away from the vampire world, far from the border. Although he'd be giving up his comfortable job and luxurious environment, it would be better than constantly being hunted by the Black family's young lady. Besides, he had never smelled blood as sweet as Molly's before. If he drank it once and never had it again, he'd be heartbroken.

This little vampire must have been captivated by Molly's blood, too, which is why she protected her so fiercely. And, of course, he could drain the young lady of the Black family's blood as well. He had never tasted the blood of another vampire, especially not one from the prestigious Thirteen Clans. Surely it would be even more exquisite than human blood!

Who knows, drinking her blood might even turn him into a pureblood noble.

But in that moment of distraction, Molly was already in front of him. Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his chest. He shifted his gaze from Adele on the floor to Molly in front of him. The delicious maid wore her usual expressionless face, but now, something was in her hand.

A deep red heart, still faintly beating.

The doctor stared blankly at it, slowly realizing what had happened. He couldn't help but look down at his chest, where a gaping hole had appeared. He couldn't understand why this had happened.

Vampires are resilient, so even after losing his heart, he didn't die immediately but remained conscious for a brief moment. The last thing he heard in this world was Molly's voice: "Oh, so even something as filthy as you has a red heart."

The doctor fell backward, crashing to the ground with a loud thud, raising a cloud of dust.

In the next moment, both his body and the heart in Molly's hand burst into flames. The fire wasn't real—it wasn't hot at all but rather a faint, eerie glow. Within seconds, the doctor had been reduced to a pile of ashes. The heart in Molly's hand also turned to ash, which scattered as it fell from her fingers to the floor.

This was the true nature of a vampire's death. They left no trace of their existence in the world, only a few ashes that would be blown away by the wind.

Once she was sure the doctor was truly dead, Molly withdrew the black threads that had bound the maid's feet. She also shook her hand in disgust, scattering the last remnants of ash from her fingers. The maid stared in shock at the events that had unfolded, far beyond what she could have imagined. When the dust finally settled, she collapsed to her knees, exhausted.

Molly turned and walked a few steps toward her. She looked down at the maid but said nothing because she had already heard Anna arrive at the small house. Anna rushed into the building and quickly made her way upstairs. The sound of her footsteps echoed as she reached the second floor and took in the grisly scene.

Instinctively, she asked, "Where's the doctor?"

As a human and a maid, she had never seen what happened to a vampire after they died. The maid, snapping back to reality at the sound of Anna's voice, pointed at the pile of black ashes behind Molly. "H-he's here... he's dead!" The maid's words were jumbled as she explained that the pile of ashes was all that was left of the doctor.

Anna looked on in disbelief. She had never known that vampires turned into such things when they died. After calming herself, she began asking what had happened. Molly, of course, didn't answer, so the maid collected her thoughts and recounted the entire series of events.

Anna listened, her face full of astonishment. She stared at Molly, realizing that she had meant it when she said she would kill the doctor... and she had done it, killing an adult, non-low-level vampire. Anna wanted to say something, but then she saw Molly walking over to the vampire lying on the floor.

That vampire, as the maid had explained, was Molly's master and had protected the maid. Without her, the maid would have been drained of blood by the doctor long before Molly arrived.

"Molly, what are you doing?" Anna watched as Molly knelt beside the vampire, gently lifting her head and placing it on her lap. Hearing Anna's question, Molly didn't look up; instead, she kept her eyes on Adele in her arms.

What am I doing... Isn't it obvious? I'm saving Adele. Can't you see she's on the brink of death? Although she's not going to die right away, and her wounds are slowly healing, if left untreated, even if her wounds heal, she could suffer severe aftereffects from blood loss.

Adele had pushed herself to the limit to protect the weak human, and Molly couldn't stand by and do nothing.

She raised her left hand, deliberately avoiding her right hand, which had just extracted the doctor's heart. It was a bit dirty. Molly used her thumb's nail to lightly scrape her left index finger, slicing it open. Blood immediately began to flow.

Watching the blood drip down, Molly brought her finger to Adele's lips.

Adele's lips were soft but cold. Vampire body temperature was naturally low, several degrees lower than a human's, and it felt strange to touch at first. Her lips were also pale, probably due to excessive blood loss.

Molly pressed her finger to Adele's lips, and the unconscious Adele slightly parted her mouth, letting the blood drip onto her lips. The once-pale lips turned crimson as the blood touched them. Molly gently pushed her finger further in, allowing the blood to flow into Adele's mouth and down into her body.

Though unconscious, Adele instinctively drank the blood. Molly could even feel Adele actively sucking on her blood.

This was the blood she had always craved, and now she finally got to taste it. Unfortunately, Adele wasn't conscious enough to savor it, drinking it without realizing what she was doing. If she knew, she might regret missing out on the taste.

Molly chuckled softly. Her blood was indeed top-quality, and under its nourishment, Adele's wounds began to heal rapidly. Her once-pale skin turned rosy again. Molly didn't know exactly how potent her blood was, but given her strength, it would be strange if it didn't have some special properties.

Adele became greedier, trying to draw more blood, her fangs even brushing against Molly's fingertip. Molly only intended to heal her, not to sacrifice herself, so she quickly pulled her hand away from Adele's lips.

Molly then lifted Adele into her arms and stood up. If Adele woke up and found herself lying here in tatters, the proud young lady would be utterly distressed. As her maid, Molly felt it was her duty to show some consideration for her master.

She looked at the two women standing idly by and, after a moment of thought, addressed the maid. "If you want to stay alive, go to Anna's room and wait. I'll come for you at dawn and take you to a safe place." Both women froze, and Anna, confused, pointed to herself, as if to say: My room?

Molly gave her an expressionless look and nodded towards the pile of ashes. "We're accomplices."

With that, she left the room. Molly moved so quickly that before the two women could blink, she had vanished. The maid hesitated briefly but then clenched her fists and followed Anna, leaving the battered small house behind.

Even in a world like this, she wanted to survive. In Molly, she had seen a glimmer of hope, a possibility... the possibility of fighting back against the vampires.

As the maid followed Anna to the servants' quarters, Molly carried Adele back to her own room. She gently laid Adele on the bed and then stood beside it, looking down at her.

She had thought she understood Adele well, having spent twelve years together. But today, she realized she didn't understand Adele as much as she thought she did.
