Chapter 9

Emily is now in a dilemma. Moon, however, insists that Qi is beyond saving. After Qi drowned, Huang Ye immediately concluded that he was dead. Fortunately, Emily intervened in time and miraculously saved Qi, informing Male of the incident.

Of course, Moon didn't easily let go of the details of Emily saving someone. She still stared at Emily with an adoring expression, saying, "Huang Ye was fortunate to be present and witnessed Madam miraculously saving Qi! Madam is truly a divine woman sent by Nuwa. After kissing Qi, who was dead, he came back to life."

Her gaze shifted to Male, expecting his expression to be less than favorable. She felt a slight sense of satisfaction, then once again focused on the injured person lying on the ground. "I wonder if Madam can use the same method to save him?"

Emily was internally conflicted. She thought, does Huang Ye think she doesn't understand the language of the Nuwa tribe? Illiteracy is truly terrifying!

What saved Qi was artificial respiration, fundamentally different from kissing! But Emily couldn't articulate such a complex rebuttal.

Emily was displeased, and Male was even more so. They had just become partners last night, yet today Emily went to kiss a boy who was only six or seven years old. Did he already seem too old?

Seeing Male's once divine countenance now turning grim, Emily was startled. Without much thought, she pounced into his arms, hooked her arms around his neck, pressed close to him, then tiptoed and fiercely kissed his lips.

Everyone present was surprised, their mouths gaping, even the usually cheerful Moon couldn't help but blush, even she wouldn't be so affectionate with Dashan in front of everyone. Huang Ye's eyes showed surprise for a moment, fleeting and unnoticed by anyone.

But Male, seemingly displeased by Huang Ye's words, contrasted sharply with last night and this morning's warmth and tenderness. His reaction seemed as wooden as ever, offering no response, as if Emily's kiss had no effect on him whatsoever.

But soon enough, a hardness pressed against Emily's abdomen, completely giving him away.

Emily's kissing assault was fierce, lacking in technique, just like him, inexperienced. Yet all of this caused blood in his body to rush to a certain place. He moved slightly, preparing to turn the tables and show this little woman how capable he was. However, Emily suddenly let go of him, and then glared fiercely at him, her eyes filled with dissatisfaction.

Male pursed his lips, then looked at Emily, who was angrily pointing at the wound on his chest.

Everyone followed Emily's actions and turned, but no one reacted immediately.

The first to react was Moon, "Huang Ye, you're talking nonsense! My sister-in-law saved Qi, not by kissing him. If her kiss could really save people, why hasn't my brother's chest wound changed at all?"

Everyone suddenly realized, and Male even felt a bit disappointed as he touched his own lips.

He thought this little woman suddenly being so affectionate towards him was because she was afraid of making him angry or sad, trying to comfort him with a kiss!

Who knew she just wanted to prove that she didn't have the ability to save people by kissing.

And she even glared at him just now, she's angry!

Shouldn't he be the one feeling wronged? Why is she angry?

After all, whether she saved someone or not, she kissed that little brat Qi! Moreover, even if her kiss could really save someone, he couldn't allow her to kiss anyone else.

Huang Ye seemed somewhat surprised, but seeing that the atmosphere between Male and Emily was not quite harmonious, she smiled slightly and seemed apologetic as she said, "I'm sorry, Madam, it's a misunderstanding on my part. I thought you kissed Qi and could bring him back to life, and that you could use the same method to revive others."

At this moment, Emily had a clearer understanding of Huang Ye's nature. She understood that, despite appearing harmless and amiable on the surface, Huang Ye was actually a deeply cunning person.

Clearly knowing that Male cared about her kissing someone else, she deliberately emphasized this matter repeatedly. Was she bullying herself for not understanding their language?

Emily closed her eyes and pondered, then said in the stiff language of the Nuwa tribe, "Not kiss! Save him! Help him breathe!"

Emily wondered, did the system really have this function?

"How do you say 'artificial respiration' in the language of the Nuwa tribe?" she asked.

The mechanical voice of the system replied, "There is no word for 'artificial' in the Nuwa tribe's language."

"To help breathe, it is said as 'hunsayeshun' in the language of the Nuwa tribe."

These conversations flashed through Emily's mind. So, to everyone else, Emily simply closed her eyes briefly, then earnestly said in the somewhat unskilled language of the Nuwa tribe, "Not kiss Qi! Save him! Help him breathe!"

Male's expression softened considerably, and he even looked at Emily with some surprise. Although she spoke stiffly, she could at least speak the language of the Nuwa tribe now! And her voice was really pleasant!

Seeing that Emily's gaze was somewhat stern, Huang Ye lowered her eyes slightly and immediately changed her tune, "I'm sorry, Madam, I misspoke."

Since the other party had admitted their mistake, Emily didn't pursue it any further, right? Besides, if she had to repeat the entire sentence again, she would have to let the system translate it again. If the content was too much, she couldn't explain it clearly.

Although Emily felt a little annoyed with Huang Ye in her heart, she just smiled slightly, shook her head, and indicated it was okay.

But Male's face turned cold, saying, "Huang Ye, you've been with Granny Feng for so many years, and you still can't handle things on your own. In that case, when Granny Feng returns tomorrow, I'll discuss it with her and select a few smart and capable people to stay by my side."

"Male!" Huang Ye was shocked, tears swirling in her eyes, "It's not that I haven't been trying hard to learn, it's just that these things are too complicated..."

Male turned away, ignoring her, and gently instructed the injured person's family to take good care of him.

Emily lightly bit her lip, looking at the still unconscious injured person. She still relied on the system for translation. Then she said in the stiff language of the Nuwa tribe to the injured person's family, "He may have a fever at night, use cold water to wipe his body and lower his temperature."

Originally, she planned to leave some antibiotics for the injured person, but firstly, Huang Ye had already applied medicine to the injured person, although it didn't seem very reliable, but this medicine should have been prepared by Granny Feng, and the people of the Nuwa tribe had always used it like this before, so it should be effective. Secondly, the antibiotics she had were substandard products, and there weren't many of them. Unless absolutely necessary, she didn't want to use them.

"Okay, okay," the injured person's family nodded quickly. They had also heard Granny Feng give such instructions before.

Huang Ye heard Emily's words and looked at her somewhat surprised.

This point she also knew, but she just forgot to mention it. Could this outsider woman, like her, have also studied beside the elders?

Huang Ye smiled slightly and promptly remedied, "That's right, be sure to pay attention, help him cool down, Granny Feng will come back tomorrow to see him."

As the sky gradually darkened, Emily followed Banana back to cook, completely ignoring Male the entire time.

Male didn't say anything either, silently taking the leftover wild chicken to the riverside for processing.

Da Shan also got a little injured, and Moon pulled him back to their house to check and deal with it.

After dinner, the sky had already turned completely dark. Moon and Da Shan's house was close to Banana's, so they went back with the fire from cooking still burning.

Male lit a torch, but Emily, using the unfamiliar language, requested Banana for accommodation.

Banana smiled and shook her head, "Madam, you and Male just became partners last night. How can you stay here with me? Go back with Male. Any misunderstandings between partners can be resolved by talking it out."

Banana still leaned towards Male after all. Emily felt a little upset, so she directly acted like a spoiled child and lay sideways on Banana's bed of grass.

Male looked at Emily's figure. That petite body seemed to contain endless energy, but currently, all that energy was being used to quarrel with him.

Male handed the torch to Banana and effortlessly lifted Emily up, carrying her on his shoulder, then took the torch from Banana's hand, ignoring Emily's hitting and cursing, and strode back to his own house.

The torch was taken directly into Male's house.

Seeing a large cushion and two half-finished ones inside, Male was slightly taken aback.

"Bastard, put me down!" Emily cursed. When she had just come out of Banana's house, she had scratched and hit Male. Later, she thought about how she had scratched and hit Male last night. Male inexplicably fit a certain point in the Nuwa tribe's partner formation ceremony. If today's scratching and hitting were seen as some kind of hint by Male, she couldn't clear her name even if she jumped into the Yellow River.

Emily felt so aggrieved that she didn't even dare to scratch or hit anymore.

Fortunately, Male didn't seem to misunderstand. He carefully put Emily down, and Emily immediately ran to the farthest place from him, contemplating whether to hide in the space and ignore this primitive man.

Emily didn't know why she could forgive others' misunderstanding of her kissing Qi, but she was unwilling when Male showed the slightest displeasure.

Male didn't mind that Emily ran far away from him. The house was so small, where could she run to?

With one hand still holding the torch, Male bent down to pick up the large cushion on the ground. "Xiao Yu, can you make holy cakes?"

In the 21st century, many people called her Xiao Yu, but when Male called her "Xiao Yu," it had a somewhat more lingering taste, making her heart flutter slightly.

She didn't answer Male, but Male didn't need her to answer. Banana and Moon grew up with him. Things like holy cakes, they wouldn't be able to make.

And here was one finished product and two half-finished ones. Obviously, Banana and Moon followed Xiao Yu to learn how to make holy cakes.

But Male was obviously upset that the newly formed partner ignored him, especially since she had kissed that little brat Qi during the day.

Putting down the cushion, he turned to Emily. When he was less than a meter away from her, his expression became serious and earnest. "Do you want polyandry?"

EXM?! Polyandry? She had already said it was to save someone, and this matter hadn't been cleared up yet?

Emily widened her eyes, her brain racing as fast as the translation by the system.

Damn it! Even arguing requires translating first, it's too tiring!

Male, do you have the guts to argue with me in Chinese? I will curse you in every possible way, very rhythmically!

"Do you care how many husbands and wives I want? If I knew eating your barbecue was agreeing to become your partner, I wouldn't have eaten it even if you killed me yesterday!"

Emily was furious, and Male frowned, looking somewhat hurt and despondent. "You don't want to be my partner?" he asked.

"Of course not!" Emily responded without hesitation, speaking in Chinese before repeating herself in the language of the Nuwa tribe with the help of the system.

She looked challengingly at Male, who held a torch, silently gazing at her. The sorrow in his eyes made Emily suddenly feel pity for Male and herself to be considered the unfaithful one.

Feeling like the unfaithful one, Emily couldn't help but shiver, feeling guilty, and turned her eyes away.

In truth, Male was innocent. It was their custom, and Emily had intruded herself. Would her words anger Male? If so, what would he do to her? After all, he was from the Nuwa tribe, not a modern gentleman.

Would he ravage and kill her, devour her flesh, dismember her and feed her to wild dogs, or imprison her as forbidden meat?

The more Emily thought about it, the more frightened she became, wishing she could take back what she had just said.

The two remained in silence for a long time, until the flicker of the torch became dim.

"Let's sleep," Male's voice showed no emotion.

In the darkness, Emily groped her way to sit by the wall, but was soon embraced by Male, his warm body pressing against hers as they lay on the bed of grass together.

Emily gasped. Although they had already shared an intimate moment the night before, it didn't mean she was ready for such closeness at any moment, especially after those unsettling thoughts.

Male seemed deeply affected by Emily's rejection of being his partner, but he didn't make any other move. He just held onto Emily's arm, which he hadn't let go of since, and soon the even sound of his breathing indicated that he had fallen asleep.

Only then did Emily relax, struggling a bit to find that Male's arm around her waist was still firm and strong. Unable to break free, she stopped struggling and closed her eyes, slowly drifting off to sleep.

The next day, when she woke up, the bed of grass beside her was empty. The sky was already bright, and Male was not in the room. The mechanical voice of the system reminded her, "Today's tasks have been refreshed. Please complete them as soon as possible," but she paid it no mind.

Emily was a bit worried about the person who had been injured and unconscious last night. She didn't know how serious the injury was or when Aunt Feng would return. She quickly washed up with the water from the bamboo tube in the room and hurried out, heading towards the direction of the injured person's home based on her memory from yesterday.

As she stepped out, she was a bit worried that all the houses looked similar, and she only had a rough idea of the direction, not knowing if she was headed in the right direction.

But soon, she saw a crowd gathered around a house from afar. It seemed that people from the Nuwa tribe were concerned about the injured person's condition and had come to check on him in the morning.

She quickened her pace and walked over.

A familiar and sharp female voice came from the crowd, "I told you that woman is a harbinger of disaster! Our tribe was fine before she came. But ever since she arrived, we've encountered one calamity after another. First, Qi nearly drowned, then, despite being from the Hao tribe, which never interferes with others, she dared to steal our prey and injure members of our tribe! Young Yi has been unconscious all night, still hasn't woken up, and is running a high fever. Whether he can survive is uncertain. Isn't all of this the doing of that harbinger of disaster?"

It was An's voice.

Even with just her toes, Emily could understand that An was referring to herself as the harbinger of disaster.

A myriad of thoughts raced through her mind. Meanwhile, Emily also worried about the conversation with Male last night, which couldn't even be considered an argument, as she had ended the discussion with just one sentence, hurting Male deeply.

Would Male take advantage of the situation and let An blame Emily for the disasters, and then... how would they treat her? Drowning her? Burning her alive? Beating her to death? Or lining up to spit on her before drowning her?

Emily shook her head vigorously, trying to shake off these horrifying thoughts.

"The harbinger of disaster has arrived!"
