Chapter 193: Farewell to the Doll

Weiming Lake is one of the most famous landmarks at Yanjing University. If visitors to the university don't see Weiming Lake, it's almost as if they haven't visited at all.

Zhou Ming and Su Han walked side by side along the lake. Since this was a school and the social atmosphere was still quite conservative, Zhou Ming didn't want to hold Su Han's hand and walk openly in the school, unlike the couples often seen in later years. Even an eighty-year-old man kissing an eighteen-year-old girl wasn't surprising, while having no couples at all would be puzzling.

When they encountered the embassy car at Lingjing Alley and heard they were heading to Yanjing University, Su Han insisted on coming along. Zhou Ming still didn't quite understand why Su Han wanted to come. When asked, she only said she had never been to university before and since she was finally in the capital, she wanted to see the university she had always dreamed of. Zhou Ming was skeptical but decided to go along with it.

However, it was winter now, and Weiming Lake had frozen over. The trees by the lake were bare, and although there was snow, the winter scenery of Weiming Lake wasn't as attractive. To pique Su Han's interest, Zhou Ming suddenly asked, "Xiao Han, you've always said you liked Yanjing University since you were little. Since you insisted on coming here, do you know the story behind Weiming Lake?"

"I only know it was once a private garden given to Heshen by the emperor. The lake was the largest and most beautiful in the garden. Later, after the Qing Dynasty was overthrown and it was turned into a university, they didn't know what name to give it, so it was called Weiming Lake. As for the story behind it, I don't know," Su Han replied.

"Xiao Han, you don't know the full story. Actually, there's a big and incredible story behind it."

Zhou Ming deliberately paused, seeing that he had piqued Su Han's curiosity, and then began his tale: "Before the liberation, there was an extraterrestrial who had been on Earth for over 400 years. He was teaching at Yanjing University and found that a prominent young lady in Yanjing at the time was his student. What was even more unbelievable was that this student resembled a woman he had saved 400 years ago. They were destined to meet."

"Later, the young lady's family fell into trouble. He accidentally discovered that she wasn't actually born to her parents but was a child who had been switched at the hospital. The professor did many things to help the young lady find her real parents, and they developed feelings for each other. When the young lady was ready to accept the professor's love, he suddenly had an accident and lost his memory."

Zhou Ming continued, "During the treatment of the professor, the young lady discovered that his blood type was very special. She frantically searched within and outside of Yanjing to find a matching blood type. But at that time, another woman who secretly loved the professor took the opportunity to care for him and won his favor. When the young lady saw this, she was heartbroken and jumped from the hospital building. The shock helped the professor's memory return. He realized that his true love was still this young lady and used his extraterrestrial powers to save her life."

"When the young lady woke up, she was overjoyed at the prospect of being with the professor, but he told her he was an extraterrestrial and would soon return to his home planet."

At this point, Zhou Ming couldn't continue, as he saw Su Han was already crying uncontrollably. Su Han, choking on her tears, asked Zhou Ming, "What happened next?"

"The professor returned to his home planet, and the young lady's tears turned into this lake. No one can summarize this epic romance in just a few words, so it was named Weiming Lake," Zhou Ming answered.

"Is this true? There's such a tragic love story behind our school's Weiming Lake?"

Suddenly, a voice came from behind them. Zhou Ming turned around and was startled to see a crowd of people had gathered around them. Where did all these people come from?

Zhou Ming wanted to say it was all nonsense. He didn't know if there were any legends about Weiming Lake, but he was certain that what he had said was entirely fabricated, a mix of Korean drama plotlines he remembered. Yet, seeing so many tearful faces around him, Zhou Ming couldn't help but feel that these Korean drama plots indeed had a natural impact on women. It was astonishing that these students, who were supposed to be studying here, could believe such a story.

"Maybe. I also heard it from someone else," Zhou Ming awkwardly replied. He didn't dare to tell the truth, as he wasn't sure if he'd be able to leave the campus alive if he did.

"Hello, I'm from Yanjing Society. Could you please tell me more about the story you just shared? I'd like to turn it into a novel. I believe it could be as great as Romeo and Juliet," a girl with glasses and shoulder-length hair, who looked very scholarly, asked Zhou Ming.

As soon as this girl spoke, other girls around her started chiming in: "Yes, please tell us the story again. It's so touching; I'm about to cry! This is one of Yanjing's literary talents, and her writing skills are excellent. I believe she can perfectly capture this story…"

Seeing the eager eyes of these talented students, Zhou Ming felt a bit at a loss. In the end, he had no choice but to say, "I have to go; I have other matters to attend to," and quickly took Su Han's hand, making a hasty exit.

After running for an unknown amount of time, Zhou Ming and Su Han finally stopped.

"Why did we run, Zhou Ming? You could have just told them the story again," Su Han asked, panting.

This question made Zhou Ming feel somewhat embarrassed. The story he had told was a concoction of various Korean dramas and he didn't even remember what he had said, so how could he retell it?

However, Zhou Ming didn't want to ruin Su Han's emotional experience, so he shrugged and said, "Who knows what those literary-minded students are thinking. If they had made me stay, it would have been troublesome. I don't want to spend the night here."

Su Han gently patted her chest to calm her breath and gave Zhou Ming a reproachful look.

Su Han, understanding, didn't press the issue further. She glanced around and suddenly spotted a familiar vehicle. She asked Zhou Ming, "Isn't that the embassy car we saw earlier?"

Zhou Ming looked in the direction Su Han pointed and saw that it was indeed the same car. He looked up and saw a building that resembled a club. Zhou Ming guessed, "It must be a hall or lecture center. It seems someone from the embassy might be here for a lecture or speech."

As if to confirm Zhou Ming's guess, a commotion started at that moment. Zhou Ming said to Su Han, "It looks like I wasn't wrong."

Before Su Han could respond, two students rushed out from the building, talking loudly. "That foreign girl is so annoying! Just because she's studied abroad for a few more years, she thinks she can come here and show off. Does she think she's so impressive? Is Yanjing University lacking students?"

However, another student offered a different opinion: "But she is indeed impressive. I heard she visited another school yesterday and stayed there for three days, and no one could win an argument against her."

The first student remained unconvinced: "They are who they are, but this is Yanjing University. We are proud Yanjing students. We have so many senior students here. That foreign girl might talk well, but when it comes to theoretical knowledge, we're not far behind! Let's not waste time talking. Let's find senior students to help us. We can't let that foreign girl look down on us!"

The two students walked away, talking, and didn't notice Zhou Ming and Su Han nearby.

"What are they talking about?" Su Han asked curiously.

"They're probably at a debate center or something. The foreigner is here to challenge Yanjing students, and it seems they lost badly, so these students are looking for reinforcements," Zhou Ming analyzed, having attended debates in university before.

After hearing Zhou Ming's analysis, Su Han immediately said, "Then let's go in and listen!"

"There's nothing much to hear. It's just professional debaters discussing technical matters that we wouldn't understand. Plus, the foreigner isn't speaking in Chinese, so it's even harder for us to follow," Zhou Ming said.

Su Han persisted, "But you saw that there was someone who spoke Chinese in the embassy car, right? If we can't understand, we can always leave! And if we do understand, it might be beneficial for you as an economic advisor to the Central government."

Zhou Ming had no choice but to agree, "Alright, let's go in and see."

Zhou Ming and Su Han entered the Yanjing lecture hall, a tiered classroom. Zhou Ming noticed immediately that on the podium stood a strong black female and two white people. The two white people were the same ones Zhou Ming had seen in the embassy car.

Zhou Ming's attention was immediately drawn to the young white girl. Although he had seen many beautiful women, including Su Han, Lin Muqing, and Tang Ran, as well as Zhao Lin from Port City, this white girl was different. If other women were compared to ink wash paintings, this white girl was a meticulously crafted oil painting, standing there like a beautifully proportioned Western doll.
