As night fell and the lights came on, the nightlife of the city began to stir. The "Golden Splendor" nightclub, currently the largest in Nanjing, was bustling with activity at this peak time.
A few young security guards in uniforms were lounging at the corner by the wall, smoking and acting nonchalantly. One of them, with dyed hair, even whistled lewdly at the girls in revealing outfits passing by. These were the nightclub's security guards, but unlike the veterans hired by Zhou Ming's nightclub in Nanjing, the "Golden Splendor" employed mostly local toughs.
Several flashy girls hurried into the nightclub, eliciting a burst of laughter from the security guards.
"Hey, Wolf Brother," one of the guards asked, "if we keep acting like this towards the girls, won't they be scared off and stop coming? I really don't want to lose this job that pays two hundred a month."
One of the guards, with yellow hair, slapped him impatiently and said, "You always worry about useless things. There used to be another nightclub in Nanjing competing with us, but look, they got shut down. We're the top club in the city now. If these women want to have fun, they have to come here, whether they like it or not!"
Another guard suggested, "So, Wolf Brother, what if we pick a girl and take her to a nearby alley? I've seen a lot of people doing that."
This idea was met with cheers from the others. Only the first guard seemed worried and said, "But what if someone calls the police? Wouldn't that be trouble for us?"
The yellow-haired guard scoffed, "What do you know? Let me tell you, our nightclub's owner is a big shot from the capital. Haven't you seen those high-end cars with four circles? Even the mayor of Nanjing has to call him 'brother.' What cop would dare mess with us? Even the police chief would probably quit rather than deal with it!"
But reality often has a way of surprising people, especially those who think they're invincible.
As the yellow-haired guard was speaking, police sirens began wailing on the main road. Soon, more than a dozen police cars sped up, and nearly a hundred police officers jumped out and stormed into the "Golden Splendor" nightclub under the command of a lead officer.
The security guards at the entrance were stunned, unable to react immediately. The yellow-haired guard stared blankly at the police cars, oblivious to the cigarette burning his fingers. "What the hell is going on? Didn't we hear that our boss is a big shot from the capital? What's happening here?"
Only the most timid guard seemed to understand the situation. Pointing to one of the cars, he shouted, "Look, that's also a four-ring car. It looks like the car from the Nanjing nightclub boss!"
Inside the nightclub, nearly a hundred police officers quickly secured the scene and turned on the big lights. They were systematically identifying people and searching each private room.
At that moment, a door to a private room suddenly burst open, and a figure dashed out.
"Catch him!" a police officer shouted.
The officer's shout was too late, as the figure was already familiar with the layout of the nightclub and swiftly reached the side door. At that moment, a suited man appeared like a ghost from the side and tackled the fleeing individual.
The police then swarmed in and arrested the person, immediately reporting to the officer, "Report, this person is the suspect Jiang Chunhua!"
The report shocked everyone like a thunderclap, leaving them momentarily stunned. They began to whisper and discuss among themselves. Just like the security guards at the entrance, they knew that the nightclub owner had significant backing. How could the police be here to arrest him? This must be a joke.
However, the skepticism on the scene didn't change the outcome. The police, after apprehending Jiang Chunhua, wasted no time and quickly wrapped up their operation.
The nearly hundred police officers arrived and left so quickly that the scene was still in shock when Jiang Chunhua was already taken away.
Once the police had left, the scene erupted into chaos. Everyone was in disbelief, shouting and discussing what had just happened, as if the building itself might collapse under the weight of their astonishment.
Outside, the atmosphere was not reflective of the chaos inside. Jiang Chunhua, being escorted by two officers, struggled and shouted, "Why are you arresting me? I haven't committed any crime. Do you know who I am? If you dare to arrest me, I'll make sure to strip every single one of you of your skin tomorrow!"
Jiang Chunhua's loud protests were met with a painful slap from one of the officers, who scolded him, "Be quiet, or you'll have more to deal with!"
The slap seemed to either wake Jiang Chunhua up or leave him dazed. After being slapped, he became much more subdued. However, his compliance didn't last long. As he was being escorted out of the nightclub and reached the entrance, he suddenly glared and shouted, "Zhou Ming, Du Peng! It's really you two bastards! What have you done?"
In front of him were Zhou Ming and Du Peng. Du Peng, irritated, slapped him again, "Young Master Hua, you should have some manners, considering you come from the capital. Can't you show a bit of decorum?"
But Du Peng's slap didn't have the same effect as the officer's. Jiang Chunhua continued to curse, "I'll teach you and your whole family some manners! Du Peng, just keep licking Zhou Ming's boots. You're nothing but a spineless dog! It disgusts me that you're from the same capital city!"
"Are you still not getting it?" Du Peng was furious and slapped Jiang Chunhua's face a few more times, but it didn't help. Du Peng had no choice but to call the suited man who had assisted in the arrest to help discipline Jiang Chunhua. However, the suited man hesitated because he was a Zhongnanhai bodyguard assigned to protect Zhou Ming and Du Peng. While helping to capture Jiang Chunhua was within his duties, physically assaulting him would be considered a form of illegal punishment.
At this moment, Zhou Ming stepped in understandingly. He had initially sent one of the Zhongnanhai bodyguards to mingle with the crowd to ensure no issues with the capture.
As expected, Jiang Chunhua had tried to escape through a back door he had prepared, but the Zhongnanhai bodyguard's skills ensured he was caught immediately, making the arrest flawless.
"You can't just slap him. We need to be more decisive," Zhou Ming said, and suddenly, he delivered a harsh kick to Jiang Chunhua's lower regions. Jiang Chunhua screamed in pain, almost collapsing to the ground and contorting his face. His comical distress elicited laughter from those around him.
While this action stopped Jiang Chunhua's cursing, it didn't prevent him from talking. He yelled at Zhou Ming, "Zhou Ming, I refuse to accept this! What exactly are you accusing me of?"
"Alright, since you want to understand, I'll make sure you do," Zhou Ming said, "You remember killing someone, don't you? Let me remind you—Tao Guoling from the West District, Banqiao."
Upon hearing Zhou Ming mention a murder, Jiang Chunhua's body twitched involuntarily. When Zhou Ming named Tao Guoling, Jiang Chunhua became extremely agitated, struggling and shouting at Zhou Ming, "Zhou Ming, what the hell are you talking about? How could I have killed someone? I'm a good friend of Guoling. How could I have killed him? It must be you, framing me!"
Zhou Ming listened to Jiang Chunhua's words with disdain and coldly said, "As I promised, I'll make sure you understand."
Zhou Ming then pulled out a small recording device and pressed play. The recording immediately played the audio of the murder of Tao Guoling.
Upon hearing the recording, Jiang Chunhua was stunned. He muttered, "How could this be? This can't be true."
"Nothing is impossible if you are careful. If you don't want others to know, you should avoid doing it," Zhou Ming pointed to the people around and asked, "You should be familiar with these people, right?"
Jiang Chunhua looked in the direction Zhou Ming pointed and immediately realized, "Zhongnanhai guards? You actually hired Zhongnanhai guards? Why is this happening?"
"Why can't it be? These are bodyguards sent by my father to protect us. Is there a problem?" Du Peng replied impatiently.
The revelation was the final blow for Jiang Chunhua. After learning this, he, who had been so arrogant, finally lowered his head, his face ashen. As Zhou Ming had said, being a privileged youth, he understood the capability of the Zhongnanhai bodyguards. If they were prepared, obtaining such recordings would be easy. Jiang Chunhua knew he was completely at Zhou Ming's mercy, with no chance to escape.
"You're ruthless, Zhou Ming, really ruthless!" Jiang Chunhua said through gritted teeth, though it was unclear if he was expressing regret or something else.
Of course, Zhou Ming was unconcerned with Jiang Chunhua's sentiments. He nodded to the officer, who then signaled to take Jiang Chunhua away.
As Zhou Ming and Du Peng returned to their car, Du Peng relaxed into his seat and said, "Capturing Jiang Chunhua today is a major victory.
Since Young Master Tan in Lingnan relied heavily on Jiang Chunhua's abilities, and now that we've cut off his right-hand man, Tan will be left in a difficult position. His plans will be severely disrupted, and it'll be much easier for us to deal with him from now on."
"Yes," Zhou Ming agreed. "So the next step is to have a thorough discussion with him."
Du Peng's eyes widened in surprise. "Discuss? Zhou Ming, are you mistaken? With our current advantage, it's the perfect time to press our advantage and eliminate him completely. Why would we need to discuss anything?"
Zhou Ming shrugged. "I'm not interested in discussing things either, but I have a feeling he'll be very eager to negotiate with us."
Zhou Ming's words seemed prophetic. Just as he finished speaking, his phone rang immediately, confirming his premonition.
