Chapter 88: Adams' special banquet

In the White Hill Forest to the north of Brighton is a large, ancient manor house. A stone tablet at the entrance indicates that the manor house has been here for more than 300 years, dating back to 1625. The original owner of the manor house is unknown, but the current owners are the Adams family.

At 11am on 31 August, a helicopter with a loud roar swept over the Baishan Forest, and finally landed on the helipad of the Baishan Forest Manor. Five or six people were waiting on the helipad to greet the arrival of the helicopter. When the cabin door opened, the figure of an elderly man with a pompadour and full white hair appeared. They immediately went up to help the old man off the helicopter.

As the old man stepped off the helicopter, the leader of the group that had come to greet him took the initiative to approach the old man very respectfully and say, 'Mr. Christo, everything is ready.'

The old man nodded silently, and without stopping, walked out of the helipad and into the castle of the manor. The old man did not go anywhere else, but instead walked directly into a dining room.

Meanwhile, in the castle hall, a grand banquet was in full swing. People of all shapes and ages were walking around the banquet. Many expensive dishes such as bouillabaisse, foie gras steak and Angus beef were on the plates like pickled cucumbers for people to choose from. There was even a special open kitchen on one side of the hall, where the chef could prepare any dish on the spot.

Many servants in tuxedos are walking among them, carrying all kinds of alcohol in their hands, such as brandy and tequila, ready to serve anyone at any time.

From this arrangement, it is undoubtedly clear that this banquet is a top-class banquet for the upper class.

'You know, this party is not for just anyone. You need to be invited by the Adams family. Otherwise, it doesn't matter if you're the governor or a senior senator, or even the president, I'm sorry, you're still not allowed in. Old Brook may look impressive in the parliament, but this is only his third time here, so Will, you must be here for the first time, right?'

In the crowd, two young men were walking aimlessly. One of them was introducing the party to his friend. They were none other than Robert and Will.

Will followed Robert as he walked, looking around and saying to Robert with emotion, 'I really am here for the first time, and this is really something. If I'm not mistaken, over there are the former governor and lieutenant governor, as well as the current speaker of the house, the Massachusetts chairmen of both parties, the chairman and president of Brighton Bank, the chairman and president of Massachusetts Insurance Company, and the leadership of Bell and Phoenix.'

At the end, Will couldn't help but laugh: 'I'm thinking that if someone were to blow up this place, then I'm afraid that tomorrow Massachusetts would be finished, because this place is now full of the most important people in Massachusetts.'

'It seems that Will, you have quite high standards, and it seems that you are not satisfied with just attending this banquet,' Robert said curiously.

Will shrugged and said, 'I'm not dissatisfied at all. To be able to gather so many important people from Massachusetts at once, I think that it is impossible to see except at the banquet of a governor or president.'

'That's true,' Robert nodded, then suddenly changed the subject and continued, "But in my opinion, this banquet is just an ordinary one.'

Will raised an eyebrow and said, "An ordinary banquet? Is the president going to come later?'

'Of course not. This is just the outer banquet. Later, important family members will leave the banquet and go to another room for another banquet. That's the real top banquet,' Robert said. "Will, just think about it. Those who can attend this banquet are already the elite of Massachusetts, and those who attend that banquet are the elite of the elite!'

Robert saw that Will was a little surprised, so he continued, "I don't know if you heard the helicopter roar just now?'

Will nodded subconsciously at first, then immediately remembered something and widened his eyes, saying, 'Robert, are you saying that someone is coming? He still has the ability to organise a banquet for the elite of the elite. Robert, how do you know? Have you also attended such a banquet?'

Facing Will's inquiry, Robert raised his head proudly, 'Of course. Do you think I'm just a family bastard like you? I'm the highest-ranking heir of the Adams family, not someone ordinary! So what do you think there is to be concerned about when a core member of the Adams family attends any family banquet, Will?'

Robert paused for a moment and then added, 'As for the helicopter just now, it must be that guy Christo coming. Although I hate him, I have to say that the guy always likes to make such low-key appearances, which is really annoying!'

Will, although he had already guessed the answer, could not help but gasp after Robert finished speaking: Christo? The current patriarch of the Adams family, the most central figure in the Brighton consortium, Brighton and even the entire state of Massachusetts are under his control. If a governor is in control of Massachusetts during his term of office, then Christo will be in control of Massachusetts as long as he lives.

So it was him who had arrived? But yes, only he had the power to hold a more elite party.

As Will thought this, Robert's voice suddenly rang in his ears: 'Hey Will, you just stay here and be amazed, I'm going to that party over there first!'

Will came back to his senses and looked at Robert, and saw that he was already walking towards the side door, where a man in a black suit was waving. At the same time, other people in the hall were also moving in that direction. Will knew those people, they were all central figures in the Adams family.

'It really is a very special inner circle party,' a voice sounded in Will's ear, and old Brook stood next to him at some point.

Although Will was a little surprised, he still appeared calm on the surface, and just muttered, 'I hope what I said just now will have some effect.'

...

On the other side, Robert strode out of the restaurant, while everyone else kept their distance from him and didn't say much to him. They quickly arrived at the other banquet hall where Christo was. Compared to the hall over there, this banquet hall was much quieter. There was only a long table, which was filled with cutlery and equally expensive and exquisite dishes in order.

Everyone greeted Christo as they entered, except Robert, who said nothing and walked straight into the room and took his seat.

Everyone, including Christo, ignored this or were used to it.

After everyone had taken their seats, Christo said, 'You are all the sun of the Adams family. So today, I have gathered you here alone, and I believe you all understand why. So, regarding the situation in the Middle East, please share your opinions.'

As he spoke, Christo raised his hand to indicate that the person on his left should speak first.

Soon two hours had passed, and the banquet on Christo's side came to an end. Christo indicated that the meeting was adjourned, but when he was about to get up, he noticed that Robert had not left yet. He asked curiously, 'Do you still have something to do?'

Robert shrugged and said, 'You know the answer, don't tell me you don't know what's going on lately.'

'Of course I know everything. So what is the point you want to make? Or what do you want me to do?' asked Christo.

'Needless to say, Christo, you are the patriarch, and of course you have to teach those who dare to challenge the Adams family a lesson...' Robert continued with clenched teeth, 'and those hateful traitors!'

As Robert finished speaking, Christo pulled out a document as if by magic and read it aloud in a measured tone: 'Zhou Ming, a Chinese businessman, was sent to study at Harvard University with the Chinese financial class. While at school, he founded the dormitory convenience store, bought Wharton and renamed it Wharton Insurance Company, and invested in Shenlan Airlines...'

Before Christo could finish, Robert rudely interrupted him, saying impatiently, 'Just stop talking and tell me if you're going to help or not!'

Christo closed the file gently and said, 'Robert, you know what? I actually knew about all those things you did on the first day, and I really wanted to stop you because what you did was really unstructured and disappointing. It didn't seem to me like a tactic against your opponent, but a kind of wilful game like children playing at home.'

'You're full of shit!' Robert said indignantly. 'I'll tell you, it's all because of that bitch Caitlin. He actually had an affair with that Chinese guy behind my back, and she deliberately sabotaged the family's plans, letting that Chinese guy come and make the wealth that should have belonged to the family!'

'So what do you want to do? Do you want to punish the Chinese guy or Caitlin?'

Christo asked, but he didn't expect Robert to answer, so he immediately said, 'Actually, Robert, neither the Chinese nor Caitlin matter. You are Robert, you should understand that if the Adams family mobilises enough resources, they can make them die in any way they want, but the key to this problem still lies with you.'

Robert shouted angrily, "Christo, I told you, I will never forgive you!'

Christo shook his head helplessly, "It's been so long, and you still won't forgive me?'

'No, I told you, I will never forgive you in this life!'

Robert shouted at Christo, but then he quickly changed the subject: 'But if you can help me teach that Chinese man a lesson, and that bitch Caitlin, I will be willing to call you father.'

Christo stood up suddenly and looked at Robert in disbelief: 'Is that true?'

Robert pointed his finger at Christo: 'That bastard! I'd like to draw your attention to the fact that that's after you've helped me teach the Chinese and Caitlin a lesson!'

Christo laughed: "I know that of course, and it's a very good start, which means we have a chance of making up.'

Robert also laughed: "Really? I don't think so, because I feel the need to remind you, Mr Christo, that the Chinese are not to be trifled with.'

'That's if you're playing along, but if you gather enough strength, he's just an ordinary person,' said Christo. "But then again, I think I need to thank him, because he's the one who finally gave me the opportunity to hear someone call me father again after such a long time.'

'Maybe, but I hope it's you, Christo, that the guy is messing with," said Robert.

'A Chinese person?' said Christo with contempt. 'He'll never make it.'
