Jax's eyes narrowed as he gazed at Arkeia, his mind racing with questions. How had she gotten here? What did she want?
"You're the one who's been trying to exploit the Thread's power," Jax accused, his hand tightening on his blaster.
Arkeia smiled, her eyes glinting with amusement. "I'm just trying to unlock its secrets, Captain," she said. "Secrets that could change the course of human history."
"The guardian told me about you," Jax said, his voice firm. "You're the one who unleashed the Devourer."
Arkeia's smile faltered for a moment, before she regained her composure. "I didn't mean for that to happen," she said. "But it's too late now. The Devourer is out there, and it will consume everything in its path."
Jax's eyes locked onto Arkeia's. "You're not going to stop it, are you?" he said. "You're going to use it for your own gain."
Arkeia's smile returned, wider than before. "You're perceptive, Captain," she said. "Yes, I will use the Devourer. And with the Thread's power, I will be unstoppable."
Jax knew he had to act fast. He raised his blaster, pointing it at Arkeia. "I won't let that happen," he said.
But before he could fire, the guardian intervened, its hand on Jax's arm. "Wait, Captain," it said. "There's something you don't know."
Jax turned to the guardian, his eyes questioning. "What is it?" he demanded.
The guardian hesitated, before speaking. "Arkeia is not the only one who seeks to exploit the Thread's power," it said. "There is another, Captain. One who is closer than you think."
Jax's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with possibilities. Who was the guardian talking about? And what did they want?
Jax's eyes locked onto the guardian's, his mind racing with questions. "Who is it?" he demanded. "Who's the traitor?"
The guardian hesitated, its eyes darting to Arkeia before returning to Jax. "It's someone on your team, Captain," it said. "Someone you trust."
Jax's eyes widened in shock. "What? That's impossible."
The guardian nodded. "I'm afraid it's true, Captain. And I think I know who it might be."
Jax's mind was reeling. He couldn't believe that one of his team members would betray him like this. "Who?" he demanded again.
The guardian took a deep breath before speaking. "I think it's Elianore Quasar, Captain."
Jax's eyes narrowed. "Eli? That's impossible. He's my friend."
The guardian nodded. "I know, Captain. But sometimes the ones closest to us can be the ones who betray us the most."
Jax's mind was racing. He couldn't believe that Eli would do something like this. But he knew he had to investigate.
"I'll talk to him," Jax said. "I'll find out if it's true."
The guardian nodded. "Be careful, Captain. If Eli is the traitor, he won't hesitate to stop you."
Jax nodded, his heart heavy with doubt. He didn't want to believe that Eli would betray him, but he knew he had to be careful.
He turned to leave, but Arkeia's voice stopped him. "Captain," she said. "Don't be so quick to trust the guardian. It has its own agenda."
Jax turned back to her, his eyes narrowing. "What do you mean?"
Arkeia smiled. "The guardian is not what it seems, Captain. It has its own reasons for wanting to stop me."
Jax's mind was reeling. He didn't know who to trust anymore.
Jax's eyes locked onto Eli's, his mind racing with questions. Was his friend really a traitor? He couldn't believe it.
"Eli, what's going on?" Jax demanded. "The guardian says you're working with the UEG."
Eli's expression was calm, but Jax detected a hint of guilt in his eyes. "I can explain, Jax," he said.
"Explain what?" Jax's voice was firm. "Explain why you're betraying me?"
Eli sighed, his shoulders slumping. "I'm not betraying you, Jax. I'm just trying to protect you."
Jax's eyes narrowed. "Protect me from what?"
Eli hesitated, before speaking. "From yourself, Jax. You're so focused on stopping Arkeia, you're not thinking about the consequences. The UEG can help us, Jax. They have resources we need."
Jax's mind was reeling. He couldn't believe Eli was really saying this. "You're willing to sacrifice our freedom for resources?" he demanded.
Eli's expression was grim. "I'm willing to do whatever it takes to stop the Devourer, Jax. Even if it means working with the UEG."
Jax's eyes locked onto Eli's, his heart heavy with sorrow. He had lost his friend.
Jax's eyes never left Eli's face, his mind racing with emotions. He felt betrayed, angry, and sad all at once.
"How could you, Eli?" Jax asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "We've been friends for so long. How could you betray me like this?"
Eli's expression was pained, but he didn't look away. "I'm sorry, Jax. I really am. But I think this is the only way to stop the Devourer."
Jax shook his head, feeling a sense of disgust. "You're not even sorry, are you? You're just sorry you got caught."
Eli's eyes dropped, and for a moment, Jax thought he saw a glimmer of regret. But then, Eli's expression hardened again.
"I'm doing what I think is right, Jax," Eli said. "And if you can't see that, then maybe we're not as good of friends as I thought."
Jax felt a stinging sensation in his eyes, and he knew he was on the verge of tears. He had never felt so betrayed in his life.
"You're right," Jax said, his voice cold. "We're not friends. Not anymore."
Eli nodded, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Then, Eli turned and walked away, leaving Jax feeling lost and alone.
The guardian's voice broke the silence. "Captain, I'm sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen."
Jax turned to the guardian, his eyes still stinging. "Just get me out of here," he said. "I need to stop Arkeia, no matter what."
The guardian nodded, and Jax felt a strange sensation wash over him. When it passed, he found himself back on the ship, staring at the stars.
But he knew he couldn't stay there. He had to keep moving, no matter what.
