JESSICA

I had always believed that working as Mile's secretary would give me a little bit of chance with him, drawing us closer in ways I had long imagined. But reality had a cruel way of shattering expectations. Despite spending hours together in the same office, it felt as though an invisible wall had been erected between us.

His words were strictly professional, his tone detached. Whenever he spoke to me, it was solely about deadlines, reports, or meetings. Never once did he pause to ask if I had eaten breakfast or grabbed a quick lunch. Not even a fleeting moment of concern or care crossed his lips.

As soon as the clock struck the end of the workday, Mile wasted no time gathering his things and rushing out the door. There was no lingering, no after-hours conversations, no glances that hinted at something more. Instead, he hurried home to her—that woman. 

The very thought made my stomach churn with jealousy.
