Chapter 16: The Unexpected Truth

Chapter 16: The Unexpected Truth

Emily hung up the phone, her smooth cheeks flushed and her slender shoulders trembling slightly.

"Ethan, you b*st*rd! Ethan, ahhh!!!"

She thought she might just have a heart attack from all the stress he was causing. She realized that every time Ethan made her furious, it had a tinge of her being offended and embarrassed.

Ugh, Ethan was unbearably annoying.

When Emily received the call about her delivery, she nearly lost her mind. The package she sent had been returned to sender within an hour with a note: "No such person."

She deeply suspected it was another result of someone's "money-can-do-anything" attitude.

D*mn it.

Ethan's money might be able to pluck stars from the sky, but it could also make him disappear from the face of the earth.

Emily rested her chin on her hand, staring blankly at the star certificate. Then, an idea struck her.

Since Ethan was so wealthy, why not let him experience what it's like to have his own money thrown back in his face?

**

"What did you find out?" Ethan asked Jason.

Jason shook his head. "There's no personal relationship between the wife and that male star. Aside from their photoshoot, they only met once at that charity gala."

Ethan's frown relaxed for a moment, but his eyes narrowed again the next second.

It couldn't be that simple.

He was a man, after all. He understood what it meant when a man looked at a woman like that.

But his wife was so eye-catching that night, and the men looking at her weren't just one or two…

With this thought, Ethan felt an inexplicable frustration, as if his private treasures had suddenly become public knowledge—and someone was interested in them.

He recalled how Emily had chatted with the young star that night, her charming smile and eyes sparkling when she looked at him.

When had she looked at him like that?

Oh, it was so long ago he couldn't even remember…

Jason noticed the boss's dark expression and hesitated whether to continue.

"Chairman Harrison," Jason tentatively asked, "Do you know about fan sites?"

Ethan lowered his hand from his temple. "Hmm?"

Jason hesitated before opening his laptop and pushing it towards Ethan.

It was a Weibo page named "OnlyForYancy_Ryan Fan Site."

"What's a fan site?" Ethan asked.

Jason explained, "It's a network platform set up by fans of a star where they post videos, photos, and sometimes organize support activities."

He smiled slightly. "A lot of young fans are doing this now."

Ethan felt a bit uncomfortable, his neck feeling stiff.

The term "young girls" reminded him of how someone called him "an old man."

Ethan scrolled through the Weibo page and saw all the updates about Ryan.

There was a "Goodnight" post from Ryan, which the fan site immediately reposted with a caption:

"Goodnight, Lily Yan, darling [kisses]"

Ryan's new promotional photos were also highly praised:

"Aaahhh, today's photos of Xizai are to die for!!"

"This heavenly beauty! I'm so in love!!! [chicken emoji]"

And the frequent, expensive giveaway activities indicated that the fan was very generous.

A troubling suspicion formed in Ethan's mind.

When he reached a post confessing love to Ryan in French, his face fell.

He stared at his assistant.

Jason met Ethan's searching gaze and gravely nodded. "It was set up by the wife."

He closed his eyes, unable to bear witnessing the boss's face turn green with envy.

Ethan leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms, and frowned at the screen. He remembered something and dragged the cursor back to the first post.

The first post was from 2014.

2014.

Long before they were married.

Even earlier than the night he carried her out of the bar while she was drunk…

Ethan closed his eyes and tugged at his collar roughly.

But his irritation grew even more intense.

It was all fake. Everything was fake.

All the times she cried and clung to him, the times she said she only loved him, and he thought he was finally her entire world—

It was all a lie.

So she had other "good brothers" and "handsome guys" already…

She was just a deceitful woman!

As his temples throbbed, the fan site updated. A new post popped up:

"#Ryan21stBirthday# Support Heat #2 is here!!

In the boundless universe, you are the brightest star @Ryan

Five asteroids of your constellation, sent to the most dazzling you [heart]. This little planet of mine also revolves in your hands [heart][heart]

PS: Thanks to a generous benefactor [dog head]"

Ethan: "......"

The man's aura plummeted.

Jason didn't dare to breathe. He had never seen the boss with such a face.

The silence felt like it lasted a century.

Ethan finally spoke in a low voice. "Where is my wife now?"

**

Emily had moved to a new place two weeks ago.

Accustomed to luxurious mansions like the Star-Viewing Pavilion, she found Jessica's spacious apartment felt like a birdcage.

Her new residence was a top-floor luxury apartment in the city, and she had taken the largest one available.

Not only did it have an outdoor infinity bath, but it felt like the whole sky belonged to her.

After nearly half a month of renovations, it was finally comfortable today. Emily finished arranging the last few items and checked her phone.

Eight missed calls.

All from Ethan.

Imagining Ethan's furious face as he frantically called her but couldn't get through, Emily's lips curled up.

As she was enjoying the thought, the ninth call came in. She hesitated but answered.

"Why didn't you answer the phone?" The man's deep voice was still calm.

Emily tilted her head and asked, "Chairman Harrison, is something wrong?"

"Let's meet. I'll come to see you."

Before she could reply, he had already given her the new address and asked, "Are you there now?"

Emily's good mood was somewhat dampened by the monitoring.

"No," she said bluntly. "If it's not about signing the divorce agreement, I don't think we need to meet."

There was a brief pause on the other end, then the man called her softly, "Emily."

As usual, his voice was tinged with suppressed anger.

But this time, it seemed to hold something more.

Emily thought for a moment and spoke again, "Will you bring the agreement with you?"

There was no immediate response.

After a few seconds, the man softly replied, "Yes."

**

After hanging up, Emily's heart fluttered with excitement.

She walked into the bathroom, smiling at her reflection and patting her face.

On the night before a wedding, the bride would usually have a bachelorette party to say goodbye to her single life.

So tonight, should she also go out and celebrate her newfound freedom?

Thinking this, she became even more excited and prepared to do a party makeup right away. She pulled open the drawer to get a pack of makeup wipes but froze.

Her eyes widened in a moment of daze, then she stiffly looked down.

In the drawer lay an unopened pack of tampons.

Hadn't used those in a while?

The last time she used tampons was on the day she took Ethan's cover photo.

Before that day, they…

She remembered feeling dizzy when she asked if he was prepared.

Ethan had pinched her chin and chuckled softly, saying that his office wouldn't have such things, as if she really thought he would be after a female star…

Emily's heart tightened.

Could it be… could she be pregnant?!
