Chapter 90: Double the Joy, Double the Love
Emily held her breath in disbelief.
Two sacs?
What does that mean??
Her mind was racing. The term "sac" easily triggered thoughts of her own condition with multiple cysts…
Ethan was completely stunned. His eyelashes fluttered as if shocked, and his lips parted slightly.
"You mean," Ethan swallowed hard, his voice full of disbelief, "two… two… babies?"
Dr. Jiang, familiar with the reactions of new fathers, smiled broadly. "Yes. It's a twin pregnancy."
Emily let out an astonished "Oh!" and propped herself up with excitement. "Are they twins?"
Her enthusiasm was so overwhelming that her hair seemed to lift from her head. "Are they boys or girls??"
Dr. Jiang shook her head. "We don't know yet. If you want to find out, we can check again in a while."
"No need for that." Ethan spoke up first, his usual calm demeanor replaced by visible excitement. His eyes were shining.
"As long as they're healthy, that's all that matters," he murmured, gently patting Emily's arm to help her lie back down.
Dr. Jiang continued to glide the probe over Emily's belly. Under the expert's guidance, the young parents saw the two tiny embryos and their little, thumping hearts for the first time.
Emily watched the rhythmic heartbeat with mounting excitement, her own heart racing in sync.
Ethan held her hand the entire time. He seemed even more excited than she was, his warm grip tightening around her small hand…
After the ultrasound, Director Gu came in to perform a basic check-up on Emily.
The authoritative expert was also astonished. Considering Emily's condition with multiple cysts and blocked fallopian tubes, the chance of natural pregnancy was very low. Yet here she was, expecting twins!
Dr. Gu congratulated the couple several times, calling it a rare miracle.
As they left the hospital and settled into the car, the driver discreetly raised the partition. Emily draped her arm around Ethan's neck, cuddling close to him.
Ethan wrapped his arm around her, pulling her onto his lap.
"Oh, we're in the car, put me down!" Emily protested, pushing his shoulder and then teasingly poking his chest. "Now that there are three of us, you need to be careful!"
Ethan held on tightly, though he asked the driver to slow down.
"I just want to hold you all," he said softly, "all three of you."
"Is it heavy?" Emily raised an eyebrow, teasing him, "It'll be even heavier in a while!"
Ethan shook his head, nuzzling her nose with his. "It's not heavy. I want to hold you like this, hold all of you, even after some time."
His voice was a tender rumble, "I'll never let go."
Holding them was like holding his whole world.
How could it be heavy?
Emily's lips curved into a silent smile.
Here it goes again.
Her man wasn't very good with words; his confessions were earnest but somewhat clumsy. Perhaps that's why his romantic words always seemed a bit cheesy.
But she found herself increasingly unable to resist his endearingly awkward declarations.
"Darling," Emily hugged his neck, her voice soft and sweet, "are you really that happy?"
Ethan nodded. "Yes, I am."
Emily's eyes sparkled with happiness as she stroked her belly, a bit of pride and a hint of seeking approval in her gesture.
"The doctor said this is a miracle!"
He kissed her forehead, his hand resting on her waist. "They're not a miracle. I've seen even greater miracles."
Emily asked, "What?"
Ethan looked at her, blinking slowly. "You."
"You're my greatest miracle."
**
Twin pregnancies bring double the joy and also double the pressure.
Both the Harrison and Clarke families were shaken by the news. Emily's father, concerned for his daughter, sent a longtime family nanny to the Zhi Xing Pavilion.
He also gave Emily a diary, written by her mother during her pregnancy.
Perhaps due to hormonal changes, Emily often felt emotional and thought about her mother. Even though her mother had been gone for years, Emily found herself missing her more than ever—wishing to know what she was like when she was pregnant with her and wishing she could be there to guide her through motherhood…
Fortunately, having her mother's diary close by was a source of comfort.
What Emily didn't know was that this diary was given to her by her father only after Ethan went to the Clarke Family the day after Emily woke up crying for her mother in Ethan's arms.
The Harrison family's grandparents were overjoyed. The old man quickly sent a large red envelope to Emily, and even though his eldest son's family was present, he didn't hold back—he had the family heirloom jade jewelry sent to the Zhi Xing Pavilion.
After Emily's pregnancy was stable at three months, the old man boasted to everyone about his granddaughter-in-law carrying twins. He even said that the young couple was "efficient," either not having children or having double blessings in three years of marriage.
The most outrageous part was that the old man started bragging about the twins being a dragon and phoenix pair. :)
Ethan was speechless and quickly asked his grandfather to stop boasting.
After all, the probability of a dragon and phoenix pair was too low, and he didn't want Emily to feel pressured during her pregnancy.
Carrying twins was already challenging enough.
Emily didn't find it difficult, though.
She was experiencing double the love from her husband.
The nutritionist and chef she had hired were still there. Additionally, a yoga instructor, masseur, and beautician visited the Zhi Xing Pavilion regularly.
Emily had inexplicably developed a love for swimming during her pregnancy, so Ethan converted a pool in their home for pregnant women.
Every evening after work, he would find his little wife floating peacefully on a yellow duck float, enjoying the pool.
Ethan took great care of Emily. Her mood and health were both excellent. Her two babies were considerate, causing no discomfort for her.
By the time Emily reached four months of pregnancy, her belly had quickly ballooned like an inflated balloon. Every morning, she noticed her belly visibly growing.
However, Emily had guessed correctly—she was definitely a hot mom with a big belly.
Her arms remained slender, her collarbone delicate, and her long legs and thin shoulders still noticeable. From behind, she didn't look pregnant at all. Her side waistline was even still clearly defined.
The maternity clothes Ethan had customized were put to good use ahead of time. With top-notch design and quality, Emily looked as stunning as ever in the brand's tailored outfits. With some simple makeup using the customized skincare products, she remained a glamorous fairy.
One day, after Ethan came home, he handed her a beautifully packaged gift box.
The man had a mysterious and playful expression. Emily raised an eyebrow and gently shook the box. "A gift? What is it?"
After removing the satin bow, Emily was taken aback.
She was very particular about her everyday items, especially intimate wear.
The gift from Ethan wasn't a brand she usually wore, but she recognized it—extremely expensive and not available domestically.
The delicate lace satin and exquisite hand-embroidery were top-notch in both texture and craftsmanship.
She wouldn't normally try such a… bold style. The thin, sheer fabric was elegant yet revealing.
But the more subtle the design, the more it sparked imagination.
Emily flipped the label and found that it was actually a larger size than her usual one.
Ethan suddenly embraced her from behind, his voice low and warm. "Do you like it?"
Emily: "..."
It was hard to say whether she liked it or felt shy.
She murmured quietly, "The size is wrong."
Ethan, seeing her ears turning increasingly red, chuckled softly.
"There's nothing wrong," he took the delicate satin from her hands, spreading it out confidently. "You need this now."
Emily: "..."
To be honest, her body had indeed changed since she became pregnant.
Some changes she hadn't noticed herself, but Ethan had already considered them.
"Do you want to try it on?" Ethan asked softly in her ear.
Before Emily could answer, he teasingly added, "Maybe I should get you a bigger one in a while…"
Emily: "...!"
Emily, embarrassed, exclaimed softly, "Ethan!"
Seeing she was genuinely a little annoyed, Ethan finally stopped smiling.
He wiggled the shoulder straps in front of her. "Shall I help you?"
Emily, in a huff, took the item and pushed him away. "I can do it myself. Why do you need to help?"
Ethan licked his lip corner. "I just feel it's my responsibility to take care of you."
Emily: "!"
…How shameless.
Ethan was a man with a strong sense of responsibility. When he said he would be responsible, he truly meant it.
Ignoring Emily's refusal, he pulled open the garment's sleeves.
Ethan took his time, carefully examining the gift he had chosen, then went to the wardrobe to pick out a complete matching set.
He had always thought these things were cumbersome, but now, inexplicably, he felt a strange desire to dress his woman up.
After all, his little woman was so beautiful.
Ethan's fingers were long and strong but not very deft. His warm, slightly clumsy fingers fumbled with the clasps.
Emily moved her shoulders, the delicate butterfly bones on her back shifting gracefully.
Ethan's throat moved with a deep, satisfied sound.
Once dressed, Emily looked down at herself.
True to the high-quality brand, it was feather-light, almost like wearing nothing at all. It was even more comfortable than what she was used to.
