The first day

Of the three days, it was the first. In order to provide a positive impression, I got up early to get to the office. When my alarm went off at six in the morning, I hurried to take a shower. I put on a black skirt and a purple formal top while tying my hair up in a high ponytail.

It was almost eight by the time I got ready, and I had not had time for breakfast. I locked my apartment door as I hurried toward it, got into my car, and drove erratically. When I got to the office, it was approximately nine. As I was parking, I noticed a black SUV pull up beside my vehicle. As soon as I stepped outside, I spotted Mr. Black getting out of his SUV, accompanied by bodyguards. We both headed for the elevator.

He only nodded at me when I clicked the button and glanced up at him to say good morning. We entered the elevator, and since I didn't see the bodyguards approaching, I pressed both my and his floors. I could feel so much tension inside the elevator. He seemed to be staring at me, but when I turned to be sure, he was actually staring at his phone. He turned to face me as if he sensed my presence. When our gazes locked, my heart began to beat twice as quickly. I was unable to look away from him as if I were bound.

The elevator opened at my floor. "Your floor," he muttered. "Yes, thank you," I quickly said, not even bothering to give him another look. I ran to the restroom rather than towards my office instead. My face was flushed as I stared at myself in the mirror, and I could hear my irregular heartbeat in my ears.

What had transpired was beyond my comprehension. I've gotten so good at controlling myself over the years that slipping now surprised me. I'm aware of what occurs when someone approaches me.

My last sighting of Omar was fifty years ago. He was just a regular human who managed to make little place in my heart, and I saw him slaughtered before my eyes because of the prophecy. I vowed never to endanger the lives of others.

I came out after fixing my shirt and using my fingers to brush my hair. I was eager to begin my day when I arrived at my office. The CEO's receptionist called on my landline phone. Mr. Black had called an urgent meeting on his floor.

Everyone was already notified since I noticed them all heading for the elevator. I chose to use the stairs instead of the elevator after picking up my diary and seeing how packed it was. It was only three stories higher than the one I was on. As soon as I reached the top floor and began to mount the steps, I noticed a figure standing with his back to me. Mr. Black was there, talking on the phone while holding a cigar in his left hand. He appeared to be speaking angrily on the phone.

I thought of the poor individual on the other side. "You shouldn't be here, Rosaline," I heard him say as I silently grabbed for the door. "Yes sir, sorry sir." I realized what he had called me as soon as I entered the meeting room. Since I last saw my father leaving the bunker, no one has addressed me by that name. Then it clicked me, he was aware of who I was. As I turned to confront him, I noticed a flurry of people entering the conference room. I found a seat and settled.

He arrived in front of me. After giving me a quick glance, he turned to face everyone on the other side. "Since today is the first day we have decided to let a few of you go, this is based on the data analyzed by our team," said Mr. Black's assistant. On your computer, the list will be updated in an hour. We apologize for the inconvenience, but in order to improve the business, the necessary action must be taken."

Mr. Black left after he was done. He was inside his office when I raced to catch up with him. Upon arriving at the entrance, I attempted to enter, but someone wearing a black suit barred my path. "You are not allowed to go in; this is a restricted area, ma'am." "Tell Mr. Black Rose is here to see him", I said. "Sorry, ma'am, we cannot send you in until the boss says so." "Please, at least let him know that I am here," I pleaded. "Believe me, ma'am, he will call you if he wants to see you." I took a seat on the adjacent sofa, it had been n hour already. I approached the receptionist and smiled asked her, "Can you please inform Mr. Black that I am here to see him?", "I apologize, ma'am, but I was instructed not to bother him until he calls. Mr. Black is currently in a crucial meeting with a overseas client ," she answered. "But I can put a word for you as soon as he finishes." I looked at her thankfully. "Please call me once he calls for me," I said.

Because I knew he would; it's just a matter of time. It was almost about an hour when the said list came regarding the dismissal of about twenty-two employees. Near the HR office, there was pandemonium. There are whispers from the people who are left behind. Sam's name was surprisingly at the top of the list. I watched her rush out of her cabin and head for the restroom. Since Sam was merely a face in the firm, claiming credit for other people's work, I knew if they were compatible, they would be well aware of her.

By the time the office was empty, it was close to six. I was still seeking answers. I grabbed up my journal and made my way over to the elevator. I tapped the floor of the CEO. I wanted to ask the receptionist again when I got there, but I couldn't see her at her desk. Seizing the chance, I sneaked into Mr. Black's office.

Strange noises could be heard as I was entering inside; they sounded like someone slurping something or being gagged. My eyes were opened wide by what I saw when I arrived at the end of the corridor. I witnessed Sam being engaged with Mr. Black's assistant, giving him a head-on while on her knees. Mr. Black was occupied with his phone while seated in his chair.

I tried to remain composed as I called out to him. He smirked as he turned to face me. "I was waiting for you." "Then you ought to send someone for me."i said. "Where is the fun in that?" he stated while smiling at me. I gave him a startled look and said, "So you know what I want to talk about?"

"You have something I want, and I have answers to your questions, Princess Rosaline." My heart skipped a beat as he said my name. Then he signaled for me to follow him into a more private space. Sam was staring at me smugly when I took one last look at her. I therefore assumed that this is how she will regain her current position.

The door to the private back office was black. Green wallpaper and paintings of a black jaguar pounce on a deer covered the walls. The strong sensation of terror and dominance in one picture made it very compelling. I stared at it for a while. He motioned me to sit on the luxurious black sofa across from him.

He remarked, "You are more patient than I anticipated." "I want answers, and how do you know me? I'm more resilient than you realize."

"Princess, let's tackle one question at a time," he said, glaring at me. How are you acquainted with me? I enquired.

"Pretty, do you still not recognize me?" I gave him a serious glance and shook my head. "When your father, King Louis, ruled the realm, who was the Chief General?"

"Our army was being led by General Matthew," I answered. I am "Adam Matthew Black," his son. Startled, I glared at him. "It can't be true, nobody was meant to survive that night ." I inquired.

"I don't understand why you work here; given your years of experience and cunningness, you can hold any position you desire."

"I didn't want attention for myself; staying in the background will enable me to accomplish my objective." I replied.

"Are you seeking to get revenge now, Princess?" He questioned. "It's not your concern; I'll find employment elsewhere; you won't be bothered by it anymore." I started getting ready to go.

"I have been searching for you for a centuries, and now you wish to leave?

"Why?" I muttered. "I need your powers to unlock mine because you have something I need." He answered. I retorted, "But you are no royalty."

He looked at me with a questiongly, "Are you that sure of it?" I gave him a quizzical look as I attempted to decipher his meaning. He stood from his chair, prepared to leave"Princess, story time is over. See you later," he said while walking out.
