A Desperate Gamble

Chapter 2

A Desperate Gamble

Davis saw his friend drifting from him from that day onwards, though he tried to offer his care and condolences, but that only added salt to injury for Sylvester.

He immediately cut ties with Davis, and he joined the same people who put his mum in the vegetative state. A gang called the "LYCON."

He joined the group and climbed the rank. in less than a year, he was already a major member. In 2 years, he became a core member, and now he's called a treasurer and an upper echelon to the "LYCON" gang.

Most people who come to a private university are either wealthy, smart, or privileged, but Sylvester was all three. A perfect all-rounder.

But everything has their flaws, and Sylvester was no exception. He had the same weakness as his mother, a weak physique, and a feeble body he could only resort to money to maintain his health.

After climbing the ranks of the "LYCON" gang to become an upper echelon, he found out there were other students who joined this gang, and of those students, the trio who stood at the peak were the three brothers. Salvos, Salvador, and Santos, three Germans with blood thirst that exceeded normalcy for an ordinary student.

Sylvester decided to take them under his wing, and with all that power, he made sure that Davis life on campus was a living hell.

"Alright, till my next lecture, make sure you study human physiology very well."

Davis snapped out of his daze. "Huh? When did the lecturer come to the class?"

"Shit! If he's done teaching, doesn't that mean.... I'll have to meet up with Sylvester."

"And those dogs Sylvester raised in my hostel are still there."

Apart from the three German brothers Sylvester supported, he also had a bunch of lackeys and underdogs work for him, and Davis' roommates were also under him.

Sylvester gave them only one order: "Make Davis life a living hell, and if he ever tries to kill himself, break the limb he used. only I have the right to end his life. "

"I can't help but think of everything I've been through. It's been tough. I don't even fear death anymore, I guess. I'll just meet them, and if there's a way I'll kill them, then kill myself."

Davis stood up from his seat and gathered his books, Davis walked slowly towards the hostel, not minding the scornful looks, glares, and stares people gave him

"Bunch of hoodlums," Davis muttered under his breath, maintaining his walking pace. "I bet Sylvester is plotting something big time but so am I, I really don't care any more about this school nor do I care if my trump card ends up taking more lives than it should."

"Once bullying is unbearable, I'll just reveal it." Davis finally stopped at a door. His breathing became calm, and then he walked in.

The room looked like an ordinary, common room, but as he entered Davis, calm breathing became estatic three large figures bore pressure on him - The Three German Brothers.

"Well, well, look who finally decided to show up," Salvos sneered. Davis gritted his teeth. "I'm not here for dogs. Just tell Sylvester I am here."

"What did you just call me?" Salvos grabbed Davis by the neck, his feet not even touching the ground.

"Cut it out. The boss wants to meet him." Santos said as he shoved his brother's hand.

"You're not the one that gives me orders here," Salvos said to Santos while cracking his knuckles

But before things could escalate, a familiar voice interrupted, "That's enough, leave the twerp and I alone." Sylvester walked out from the shadow, slowly walking towards Davis, an unreadable expression on his face. The three brothers backed off, but reluctantly.

Once alone, Davis took a breather, and his eyes gleamed with anger. "Sylvester, I don't know what caused such a change in you, but this has to stop . On account of friendship of 2 years, you couldn't even let me go. Just call off your dogs so I can finally live in peace."

For a moment, a glimmer of regret flashed in Sylvester's eyes, but then he's faced hardened once again. "Years ago, you should have stayed away like a told you to.

Now it's too late for you...."

Sylvester's suddenly removed his hands from his pocket, grabbing a hand knife. Davis felt his heart beat stop. "So this is how things would end, huh?"

As Sylvester launched at him, Davis swiftly grabbed a chair and swung it at Sylvester. "

But suddenly, Sylvester stopped midway and started laughing. "Hahaha, who would've thought after all those years of bullying, you still have so much energy, Davis. Alright, bullying you has gotten boring, I'll give you a chance to redeem yourself."

"Meet me tonight at the alley shops, I've already told the school security to allow you, we're going to fight, and if you can defeat me, I'll let you go. If you can't..... well, just pray you can." He smiled cruelly "Oh and make sure you don't try to run, cus I'll make sure every junior member of the LYCON will be out. Even a rat won't be able to escape."

"I can't believe it's come to this. Sylvester used to be my best friend, and now he's my worst enemy. Every day, the bullying gets worse. I can't take it anymore. Tonight, it all ends. One way or another." Davis thought to himself

Davis's heart pounded as he left the room, the weight of Sylvester's words pressing down on him like a lead blanket. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the campus, and the chill of the evening air did little to calm his nerves. He knew tonight would be a turning point, one way or another.

As he walked back to his dorm, Davis couldn't help but reflect on how things had spiralled out of control. Sylvester, once his closest friend, had become his worst nightmare. The betrayal cut deep, and the constant torment had pushed him to the brink. But tonight, he had a plan—a desperate gamble that could either free him or end everything.

He reached his room and locked the door behind him. His roommates were out, probably carrying out Sylvester's orders to make his life miserable elsewhere. Davis took a deep breath and opened his closet, revealing a small, inconspicuous backpack. Inside was his trump card—a homemade explosive device. It wasn't sophisticated, but it was powerful enough to make a statement.

Davis had spent weeks researching and gathering materials, all while enduring the relentless bullying. He knew it was a drastic measure, but he felt cornered, with no other way out. He carefully checked the device one last time, ensuring everything was in place. His hands trembled slightly, but his resolve was firm.
