XXIII: Her Demons

The play with Morissette and Joshua had begun. The name of the show was Love in the Shadows. It was a tale of a wealthy heiress and her poor servant who must navigate through their social status to be together. Morissette, who played Jeanne, the heiress, fell in love with John, the poor servant her father had hired. The play had reached the point where Jeanne and John had an argument because of their relationship.

"I told you it can't work out, Jeanne!" John said, he held a mop in his hand as his face scrunched up in a frown. "You are a rich heiress, and I'm not. If your father finds out, it would be over for me," he told Jeanne as a tear slid from his left eye.

"Don't do this, John," Jeanne took two steps towards him, and he backed away. Her heart shattered, and a tear slid down her own eye. "Father won't find us. He can never," she tried to reason with the man. Her black hair, packed up in a messy bun, shone under the stage light.
