Today, Li Dong gave himself a day off.
Ever since returning from Beijing, he hadn't had a proper rest, which was unbearable for someone as used to being lazy as Li Dong.
Early in the morning, before Li Dong even fully woke up, his phone rang.
Drowsily answering the call, Li Dong found out it was Fang Qingfei again!
"Is it really okay to disturb someone's sleep?"
If Li Dong hadn't spoken, it might have been fine, but as soon as he did, Fang Qingfei got so angry she almost exploded. Annoyed, she said, "What kind of eyesight do you have? Do you even know where the sun is?"
Li Dong actually leaned his head out to look outside the window and then replied, "I checked. The sun is still in the east, it hasn't risen in the west."
"Stop talking nonsense!"
Fang Qingfei was infuriated, not wanting to waste more words with Li Dong, she directly got to the point: "Are you still planning to take the final exam?"
"Final exam…"
Li Dong mumbled, suddenly remembering that it was indeed the end of the semester.
But he had been so busy lately that he had forgotten. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Of course I'm taking it. I'm a good student; how could I not take the exam?"
Although he had talked with Professor Huang before, he couldn't be too brazen.
Getting a zero wasn't a problem, as Li Dong knew that Professor Huang had a way to let him pass. But not showing up for the exam at all would be hard to explain.
Fang Qingfei ignored him and reminded him, "It's up to you. Anyway, I'm just giving you a heads-up. By the way, I almost forgot to mention, the math exam is at 9 AM in room 502 of the Third Teaching Building. If you want to take the exam, you better run!"
After Fang Qingfei hung up, Li Dong cursed, "Run your sister!"
So that's why she called him; it turns out today was the exam day.
And she knew he was late, but still wasted time talking about all sorts of irrelevant things. Truly, a woman's heart is the most poisonous.
Of course, Li Dong wouldn't give her the satisfaction of making him run.
Since he was already late, being a bit later wouldn't matter. Image was still more important.
After washing his face, brushing his teeth, taking a quick shower, and tidying up his hair, it was almost 10 AM by the time Li Dong leisurely headed to the school.
When he arrived at room 502 of the Third Teaching Building, it was exactly 10 AM.
Fortunately, he was only an hour late. Li Dong was quite pleased with his speed.
The invigilator stared at Li Dong for a long moment before finally shaking his head and letting him into the exam room.
If this were the college entrance exam, Li Dong would have been kicked out ages ago. Thankfully, it was just a school exam, where the rules weren't so strict; otherwise, who would let you in after being an hour late?
Finding an empty seat, Li Dong sat down, and the invigilator handed him the attendance sheet.
Li Dong looked for his name for a long time but couldn't find it, feeling frustrated. "Teacher, my name isn't on here."
The invigilator didn't think much of it, casually saying, "It's okay if it's not there. Just write your name at the bottom by hand."
Li Dong complied, writing his full name.
Then he started looking at the exam paper. After a quick glance, Li Dong was stunned and hurriedly called the invigilator back: "Isn't this supposed to be the math exam?"
The invigilator frowned, impatiently saying, "You must have made a mistake. The math exam is tomorrow; today is the English exam."
Li Dong scratched his head. Could it be that Fang Qingfei made a mistake?
He didn't dwell on it, thinking it didn't matter which subject he took first.
Taking the English exam was even better, as it was all multiple-choice questions, which didn't require much thinking.
Since the listening section had already been completed, Li Dong moved quickly.
In less than 20 minutes, he had finished the multiple-choice questions and the essay.
Of course, Li Dong couldn't guarantee how many answers he got right. His English had been weak in high school, and it had only gotten worse in college, so who knew what was on that "alien language" exam paper.
After confidently signing his name on the exam paper, Li Dong stood up and handed it in.
The invigilator was dumbfounded—this guy finished so quickly?
Clearly, he was just here to waste time. The invigilator regretted even giving him a paper, what a waste of resources!
...
Li Dong didn't care what others thought. He was there just to fulfill a duty to himself.
At least it proved he was still a student and had taken the exam.
As for how many points he might score, that wasn't Li Dong's concern.
After leaving the Third Teaching Building, Li Dong planned to head to his company. As he approached the entrance of the South Campus Dining Hall, he ran into a familiar face.
"Mouse!"
Zhang Hao heard someone call his name, turned around, and smiled, "Dong Ge, long time no see. Where have you been?"
Li Dong didn't answer directly; instead, he asked in surprise, "You finished your exam pretty quickly. Just came out?"
Zhang Hao looked puzzled and scratched his head, "What do you mean?"
"I mean you finished the English exam pretty fast, only took you a little over an hour to finish…"
Before Li Dong could finish, Zhang Hao interrupted, "The English exam isn't until the 22nd."
Li Dong's face darkened. Did he go to the wrong classroom?
Thinking about how Fang Qingfei had mentioned math, not English, Li Dong started to suspect that he might have entered the wrong classroom. He quickly asked, "Isn't the math exam today?"
Zhang Hao was even more confused now, saying, "Math isn't until the 19th. There's no exam today."
Now it was Li Dong's turn to be dumbfounded. What was going on?
After a long pause, he asked through gritted teeth, "Mouse, are you sure the exam is on the 19th?"
Zhang Hao nodded, confidently saying, "It's definitely the 19th. I just checked the schedule before coming out."
"Damn it!"
Li Dong was furious. He had been tricked by Fang Qingfei!
No wonder he hadn't seen any familiar faces during the exam; he had thought they'd all been assigned to different classrooms, but it turned out they weren't even from his department.
Ignoring Zhang Hao's puzzled look, Li Dong quickly pulled out his phone and called Fang Qingfei.
The first time, no answer.
The second time, the call was directly declined.
Not giving up, Li Dong tried a third time, and finally, the call was answered.
As soon as the call connected, Fang Qingfei snapped, "What is it? I'm busy, you know, stop calling me."
"I have things to do too! Do you think you're busier than me? Are you bored or something, tricking me like that? Do you think it's funny?"
"What are you talking about? I don't understand!"
"Stop pretending!" Li Dong was furious.
But Fang Qingfei fired back, "Pretending about what? You're being ridiculous!"
Now Li Dong was truly confused. What was going on? Fang Qingfei's tone didn't sound like she was lying.
After a moment's thought, Li Dong cautiously asked, "What's today's date?"
By now, Fang Qingfei was thoroughly exasperated and snapped, "How should I know? Can't you check the calendar yourself?"
"Today is the 18th, Saturday, did you know that?"
"Of course, it's Saturday, isn't it the 19th?" Fang Qingfei responded instinctively.
Li Dong was speechless. He was now in a state of complete bewilderment and helplessness.
He had been pranked, but the prankster didn't even realize they had done it.
Who could he even complain to?
You don't even remember the date, and you're still a teacher? Did you learn math from a PE teacher or something?
Feeling utterly defeated, Li Dong didn't want to argue anymore. He growled, "Next time, make sure you check the calendar and wear your glasses. What a mess!"
With that, he hung up before Fang Qingfei could explode in anger. This loss was beyond frustrating; he had nothing more to say.
He had finally taken a day off, only to have it completely ruined.
