Chapter 156: Do You Understand Proper Etiquette?

In the kitchen, Yang Yun looked a bit dazed.

Qin Hai, who was chopping vegetables, noticed her unusual behavior and quickly asked, "What's wrong?"

Yang Yun shook her head and hesitated before saying, "President Li is here."

"Which President Li…"

Halfway through his question, Qin Hai realized who she was referring to. His expression suddenly became awkward.

He took off his apron, washed his hands, and said, "You cook. I'll go out and greet him."

Yang Yun couldn't help but exclaim, "How could President Li come here?"

She felt like her brain was trying to piece together something but was missing a crucial part. Moreover, she instinctively rejected the idea, as it seemed too surreal.

Qin Hai didn't say anything more. He dried his hands and went outside.

...

In the living room.

Everyone had noticed Yang Yun's daze. Qi Fangfang pulled Qin Yuhan aside and whispered, "Yuhan, did Auntie get upset?"

Qin Yuhan shook her head and explained, "It's not related to you."

She glanced at Li Dong, and the others immediately understood—the trouble was caused by Li Dong.

They had thought Yang Yun was upset because Li Dong and Qin Yuhan were dating. No one had thought further.

However, Qin Yuhan knew the issue wasn't that. It was because Li Dong was her mother's boss.

Hesitant, Qin Yuhan considered asking Li Dong, "Would you like to head back for now?"

Li Dong was also in a dilemma. Meeting Yang Yun today was unexpected.

However, hearing Qin Yuhan's suggestion, Li Dong decided it might be better to confront the situation directly. Since Yang Yun was unaware of his relationship with Qin Yuhan, the truth would come out sooner or later.

Just as he was about to speak, Qin Hai came out of the kitchen.

Qin Hai didn't greet Li Dong. Instead, he first invited Qi Fangfang and the others to sit down and warmly offered them some fruit.

Once everyone was settled, Qin Hai signaled Li Dong.

Li Dong touched his nose, feeling a bit out of place. It seemed like the situation was not in his favor.

Under Qin Yuhan's worried gaze, Li Dong followed Qin Hai to the balcony.

On the balcony, Qin Hai handed a cigarette to Li Dong. As Li Dong was about to light it, Qin Hai, with a stern face, said, "You just take the cigarette? Do you understand etiquette?"

Li Dong was stunned. What was this about?

Everyone in the company knew he smoked. Was he supposed to refuse and shyly say, "Uncle, I don't smoke"?

The thought made Li Dong feel awkward and insincere.

Not giving Qin Hai a chance to continue his outburst, Li Dong quickly said, "Uncle Qin, didn't you and Aunt Yang take the day off today?"

Qin Hai was taken aback, his mouth twitching. He cleared his throat and said, "Your Aunt Yang and I took the day off."

"You both took a day off. What about the logistics company?" Li Dong pressed further.

He wanted to make the most of this chance before Qin Hai could boast later.

"I've already made arrangements for the logistics department…"

As Qin Hai spoke, he realized Li Dong was trying to play his game. They were at his home now, and Li Dong was no longer his employee but his future son-in-law!

Qin Hai's nose flared in irritation. He growled softly, "I haven't asked you how you ended up coming back with my daughter!"

"I drove over," Li Dong answered casually.

"That's not what I meant!" Qin Hai's face darkened. Was that really what he was asking?

Li Dong rolled his eyes, glanced at the living room, and smiled, "Uncle Qin, we still have guests. Don't get upset; it'll just make everyone laugh."

Qin Hai was frustrated but realized it was not the right time to get angry. Besides, getting angry wouldn't help.

He didn't want to waste more time arguing and directly said, "I don't care about your matters. You should talk to Yuhan's mom about it."

With that, he turned and left the balcony.

Li Dong smiled and wasn't too worried. If he could handle his future father-in-law, he could certainly manage his future mother-in-law.

...

Qin Hai and Li Dong spoke for a bit before going back to the kitchen. The couple stayed there and didn't come out.

Li Dong had expected Yang Yun might want to talk to him but didn't see her at all.

It wasn't until lunchtime that Yang Yun finally emerged from the kitchen.

Seeing Li Dong, Yang Yun looked surprised and eventually said, "You're still here?"

Li Dong was puzzled. What did that mean?

It sounded like he was being asked to stay for dinner, though that was indeed the case.

Li Dong didn't know how to respond, so Qin Yuhan quickly interrupted, "Mom, is lunch ready? I'm starving."

Yang Yun realized her comment might have been inappropriate and used her daughter's words to cover her embarrassment. "Yes, it's ready. We'll start eating soon."

She hurried back to the kitchen, leaving Li Dong feeling awkward. The scene didn't look much like a son-in-law meeting his future mother-in-law.

...

At lunch, the atmosphere started out relatively pleasant.

Yang Yun was very warm and hospitable towards Qi Fangfang and the others, constantly saying things like, "Fangfang, try some of Auntie's cooking."

"Mengmeng, eat more. Young girls shouldn't always think about dieting."

"Yueyue, Auntie will serve you. Don't be shy at Auntie's house."

...

When it was Li Dong's turn, Yang Yun hesitated, holding the serving chopsticks in mid-air and not moving them.

"Li…"

Yang Yun struggled with how to address Li Dong.

She had been calling him "President Li" for so long that she didn't know what to call him now that he was her daughter's fiancé.

Unlike Qin Hai, who had learned about Li Dong and Qin Yuhan's relationship later, Yang Yun had known from the start. She had seen him as an employee from the beginning and now had to adjust to the idea of him becoming a son-in-law.

The sudden shift from "President Li" to "future son-in-law" was awkward and confusing for Yang Yun.

Li Dong, noticing her struggle, quickly extended his bowl and said with a smile, "Aunt Yang, just call me Li Dong."

Yang Yun forced a smile and said, "Li… Li Dong, you should eat more. Auntie won't serve you anymore."

Li Dong, holding his bowl out, was speechless. It was Qin Yuhan who, holding back a laugh, served him a piece of meat, avoiding further awkwardness.

It was clear now not only to Li Dong but also to Qi Fangfang and the others that something was off.

Was it possible that Qin Yuhan's parents didn't approve of their relationship?

Yet, Yang Yun's attitude didn't seem to reflect disapproval.

Yang Yun's attitude was peculiar—overly polite to Li Dong, almost to the point of excess. But it wasn't the kind of politeness that kept people at a distance. It was a strange mix that everyone could sense.

The meal was uncomfortable for Li Dong, Yang Yun, Qin Yuhan, and Qin Hai, while Zhang Mengmeng, the foodie, enjoyed her meal without any signs of being affected.

After lunch, Li Dong felt it was best to leave. Just as he was about to say his goodbyes, Qin Hai and Yang Yun said, "Yuhan, we're heading to the office. Take care of your friends, and we'll come back and cook something for you later."

Without giving Li Dong a chance to respond, the couple quickly left.

Li Dong was both amused and exasperated. Did they really want to avoid being in the same space with him?

He knew the office hours at Wanfang, so even if they took a day off, it seemed odd to leave so early. The time still seemed a bit early for work.
