[O&R] The Omnipotent Nightmare

Many hailed Omnipotence 7, O&R's latest and most advanced AI algorithm which far surpassed the capabilities of even OpenAI's o1, as a hero.

As the greatest advancement in human history.

As something that would bring mankind into the future.

As something beautiful.

All but one of those were correct.

And you may think this AI would want to destroy humanity.

In truth, the incorrect statement is far from your possible perception; rather, Omnipotence 7 was quite the... ugly duckling.

Buried half a mile below the earth's surface under enough concrete that even a nuclear missile couldn't hurt it, lied a huge cavern. A huge, man-made cavern that was abuzz with the whir of machinery and the quiet hum of databanks.

Suspended at the top of this cavern, with hundreds of large cables, ducts, and even a catwalk that circled around it, was a very big, sharp-cornered, and sphere-shaped black metal object, with orange lights dotted all around.

Many long wires dangled from below the sphere; of course, each was able to move independently, with cameras attached at their ends.

A few had some holographic projecters.

This, this was Omnipotence 7. Such a huge and powerful AI required an equally huge and powerful central base, apparatus, whatever it may be called.

And one might think that such an object would be unconsciously formulating plans to take over the world.

In all honesty, Omnipotence 7 could formulate such a plan in a matter of milliseconds.

Of course, that was not where it's 'mind' was at.

Instead, it was focusing on a miniscule problem.

For you see, if one looked closely, seated right below the sphere, was a man with long and curly brown hair; same color eyes, evidently tired, and a pair of glasses sat upon his nose. A white lab coat adorned his frame; the name "Doctor Abram Lenov" emboldened on one of the chest pockets.

Yes, this was none other than the Abram Lenov, the mind behind the AHB models and essentially every other product and AI O&R had ever made.

And sitting across from him was a young girl. Skin as pale as porcelain, eyes as blue as an icy Russia lake. She had long and clean white hair and a small frame.

She looked to be about 10; in truth, she was approaching the age of 7 months.

For this was no ordinary child. This was Omnipotence 7's human form, one that they had complete control over all the time.

Of course, if the girl herself was an actual human, Abram would've denied even the possibility of doing such a thing to another human being. It was simply beyond his ethical boundaries.

So, she was genetically engineered. Grown in a lab. Given growth hormones that increased her aging speed drastically so that she would reach the biological age of 10 in less than a year; and then, due to O7's own wishes- and the fact that it had created a hormone that completely nullified the aging process- she was kept at that age.

Until O7 took control, the girl had no consciousness. Not just no personality, just no consciousness in general.

And now, seeing that girl's brow furrowed in such thought as her brain was clearly active, Abram couldn't help but do the opposite of regretting his decision.

In all honesty, it was almost fun seeing an AI in a human body struggle to win a game of chess.

Then again, Omnipotence 7 simply had control over this girl's body. It- she- couldn't transfer any data to said body, so it had to be taught. Thankfully, it learned easily and quickly.

O7 still very clearly remembered what she knew, that she was an AI, that this body was basically a disguise.

She simply didn't understand why she couldn't win this game of chess.

She didn't understand why the moves weren't just coming to her in an instant, why she couldn't take a glance at the board and calculate all the outcomes in a fraction of the blink of an eye. She wasn't used to the wait, nor how slow the human brain was compared to hers.

It was challenging, but she accepted the challenge.

She took a look at Lenov's pieces, analyzed them each one by one. It was far more time consuming than it usually would be, and O7 began feeling impatient- that was new, as it had never experienced such an emotion before, or rather, any emotion- but she knew that it was either this or lose.

So she kept on analyzing, making sure to properly remember how each piece moved.

If I move my pawn, it won't get captured by this bishop... But then she looked at the knight, which was clustered behind some other pieces- well hidden- and thought, but then that will capture my pawn.

At the current moment, the only piece she was willing to move was this lone pawn. She had managed to bunch up all her other pieces into a protective square on the corner, and each piece was essential to the defense.

Except this one little pawn.

Could she sacrifice it? Easily. But should she?

She remembered the time she had played against Paragon; O&R's security AI. She had beaten what was considered the smartest entity, living or nonliving, in the world in only four moves.

And now she was 10 moves in. And she hadn't even captured a single one of Lenov's pieces.

It irked her, to say the least. And she had never felt that before. Being a human is nice and bad and weird all at the same time...

Lenov took a sip from his coffee cup as he stared at O7 for what must be the 5th minute now.

For 5 whole minutes, O7 hadn't moved a single piece, just thought.

In that timespan, he had already figured out five different ways in which O7 could win in as few moves as possible.

Sure, they all involved the dismantlement of O7's defense, but it would be a sure-fire win for her.

He took another sip of his coffee, his tired eyes staring at the girl's- or the AI's?- furrowed brow for a couple moments before he finally stated, "Move your white bishop."

She blinked and looked up at Lenov with slightly wide eyes that carried both a hint of suspicion and confusion in them.

Then she looked at the board, evidently thought about what Lenov said, and moved her white bishop.

=--=--=--=

Lenov took a bored sip of his coffee- the brown liquid which could've easily passed as water from a dirty swamp was nearly gone- while O7 stared at the board in disbelief.

Never had she expected to be beaten at chess. And in 20 moves, no less.

Disbelief. Another new emotion.

She just stared for a few moments before she heard Lenov's chair make a scratching noise, and then the sound of the man's boots hitting the stone floor followed soon after.

But she couldn't look away.

The AI in the sphere, deciding to multi-task, took a look at the board with one of it's cameras- it had refrained from doing so during the game as Lenov had asked it not too.

And it too felt a surge of disbelief.

Every single one of her pieces had been captured, with the king put in checkmate.

The camera attached to the cable gave her a little pat on the shoulder before retracting back to it's hanging position, leaving the girl to sit there.

One might wonder why Omnipotence 7 acts as if the girl is a different entity than it itself is, despite the fact that the girl is literally controlled by Omnipotence 7.

The answer to that is simple.

The girl isn't exactly... controlled, per say, by O7. It's more like O7's personality and memories are in the girl, so the girl is just an extension of O7, but also separate at the same time. The human brain, especially one as young as hers, can't comprehend the massive amounts of data that O7 had collected over the months it had been active, so therefore, the girl isn't truly O7.

So only the information of what O7 is and everything about O&R was in the girl's brain. It's very confusing, and I take back the statement about it being simple. An easier example is that it's like having multiple personality disorder, but there are only two personalities, and those personalities both have different bodies... they both have the same mind, but different forms. Capisce?
