"I still couldn't believe it," Kelvin said to Jenny, smiling as she kissed him around my face.
We were in our normal hideout somewhere in the school
"Why?" She asked laughing alongside with me
"You're not supposed to ask me that question, you know what happened in class today between me and Emily," he replied
And you are happy about that, right? She asked feeling kind of jealous already
No, no, Jenn,y, I love you. It's just that we need to stick to the plan and I now understand what the saying means when they say you have to work hard to get something," I remarked, and we laughed once more.
"Today is the best day of my life," I declared, his arms enveloping me as I rested my head on his shoulder once again.
Later that day after class during lunch I met up with Jack reminding him that Jenny was nowhere near Miss Love's Class, so I had to convince him that it was time we confirm if she was cheating on him
We couldn't decide on where to check first but after an argument, we had an agreement to check the restroom
"So... what will you do if we catch her cheating?" I asked, unable to hide my amusement.
"I will get angry, obviously, but I will get over it," he replied calmly, earning my respect for his composure. If it were me, I'd probably lose my cool. Getting closer to the restroom, we started hearing voices from inside the toilet.
You see what I've been telling you. I said turning just to smirk at him
Oh common Emily we just got here and it might be one of the students he said defending Jenny
We reached the restroom, and as I used my pass card to open the door, suddenly, we heard some moans.....
Suddenly, we heard a sound, prompting us to enter one of the toilets. It was a bit cramped for two people, and we found ourselves standing very close to each other, our breaths mingling.
"Jenny, we heard the guy she was having sex with called out.
"Your boyfriend?" He asked.
"Oh, him? Common dude relax, He's just one of my flings," she replied casually, sending a pang of sympathy through me for jack
"Your flings?" He asked not sure if he was to continue, but then we heard the unmistakable sounds of kissing. I wanted to tell Jack that I had warned him about Jenny cheating on him, but seeing his calm demeanor, I couldn't bring myself to do it.
"Sorry," I murmured to him, but he remained silent as he pushed open the door. Our unexpected presence startled Jenny as she was caught up in the act
"A fling, huh?" Jack remarked, his voice betraying his hurt.
"Wait What?" Jenny asked still surprised.
"I'm just one of your flings. How exciting," Jack continued, as his gaze shifted to the guy she was having sex with, before walking out of the restroom together with Emily
Entering my house, I noticed that Jack wasn't in his normal position near his window. He had left me alone at school, likely dealing with the aftermath of discovering Jenny's betrayal. I imagined he must be hurting deeply, having genuinely loved her.
After a quick shower, I sat down to tackle my assignments, but all I could think of was Jack. His absence weighed heavily on my mind. His window, usually open, remained shut, indicating his seclusion.
Feeling a strong concern for him, I debated whether to reach out to him or ignore him. What could I possibly say to console him? I've never been good at offering comfort, but I felt compelled to try. With a sigh, I slipped into my dress and decided to visit him. He was a victim of Jenny's deceit, and he deserved my support.
I rang the doorbell, waiting patiently for his mom. Mrs. Austin opened the door. Her usual vibrant demeanor seemed dimmed by sadness.
"Hello, ma'am," I greeted softly.
"Hi Emily," she replied, her smile strained.
I could tell she was aware of Jack's situation, but I didn't want to pry. Instead, she silently ushered me inside.
I hesitated to ask about Atlas, but my concern outweighed my apprehension.
"How is he coping with the situation ?" I asked, attempting to break the heavy silence.
"He's trying his best to forget about it," she replied
I glanced towards his room, a somber expression clouding my features.
"He's been in his room since he came back from school," she disclosed, her worry evident.
"Is he okay?" I pressed, sensing her distress.
"He hasn't spoken to anyone, He had been like that, and I'm afraid that he might do something drastic," she confessed, her voice trembling.
I felt a pang of guilt for not reaching out to him sooner. He was always fond of Jenny, and now he was paying the price for her betrayal. Mrs. Austin's eyes welled with tears as she spoke, and I wished I could offer her some solace.
"He didn't tell me anything, but I had a feeling something was wrong. I've always distrusted Jenny, and I warned him about her, but he didn't listen. Now, all this has happened," she said
I wanted to reassure her that everything would be okay, but I knew it wouldn't.
"Don't worry, he's going to be okay. It's just a phase that will pass. But for now, I'm going upstairs to talk to him. I hope he listens, though," I reassured Mrs Austin with a smile as we withdrew from the hug.
"Please try your best to make him feel better again. I don't want him to feel so left alone. she added earnestly. I nodded in understanding before offering her a reassuring smile.
"His room is the first turn to your left," she directed me as I made my way up the stairs towards Jack's room.
I walked upstairs and found the first door on my left. Taking a deep breath, I knocked softly, knowing he might not answer. After a moment of silence, I spoke.
"Hi, Jack. I know that you're not happy and you don't want to talk to anybody right now, but I just want to tell you that Jenny isn't worth your pain. I might be making things worse, but I need to tell you the truth. You should try moving on and act as if it didn't affect you because Jenny might end up making fun of you for crying after she broke your heart."I said
But the door suddenly swung open, revealing a very angry jack. He looked at me for a moment before grabbing my hand and pulling me into the room, locking the door behind us. He then started advancing towards me.
"I am not crying, and I will never cry because of her," he said firmly, though I could sense the hurt beneath his words.
I sighed and decided to sit on his bed. He glanced at me before rolling his eyes, clearly trying to give me attitude because I was in his room. But I wasn't about to leave.
"You're hurt, I know, and if it were me, I'd feel the same. I'm sorry about what happened," I said softly.
"Locking yourself in your room and worrying your mother won't help in fixing your problem. You should try to get better and talk to your mother because she's worried. Jenny isn't worth this; she's worthless, I said nervously
"No need to say sorry. She is worthless," he admitted, finally sitting beside me.
"I thought she was different because I loved her, "I never thought she'd do this to me. I'm so sorry for what I said to you, my statement was unforgivable. ," he expressed remorseful.
Although forgiving him wasn't my usual reaction, seeing him like this made me feel guilty. He was just another victim of Jenny's deceit. I looked at him and stretched out my hand for a hug; surprisingly, he hesitated for a moment before embracing me back.
As we hugged, I patted his back, feeling the weight of his sadness. His hands rested on my waist, while mine were on his back. We stayed like that for a while, without saying anything.
As we remained in that position, I whispered to him
"She's not worth you. You will find someone better than her. We stayed like that for a while, enveloped in a moment of silent understanding. I could hear his breathing gradually calming down, and I smiled, relieved to see him starting to find peace.
