Evelyn's POV
I walked into the courtroom, my steps slow and hesitant, as though each one brought me closer to my doom. The room was filled with the buzz of quiet conversations, the sound echoing off the high ceilings and thick stone walls. The space was grand and imposing, with tall, narrow windows that let in slivers of pale light, casting long shadows across the stone floor. The walls were lined with dark wooden panels, each carved with intricate patterns that seemed to tell stories of justice and power. The atmosphere was heavy, almost suffocating, as if the very air was thick with the weight of countless judgments made within these walls.
