Chapter 3: Assembling the Team

In his father's former workshop, Arjun sat among half-completed models, plans, and a flickering holographic image that filled the space. He had the task of completing his father's legacy and life's work, but he was unable to achieve it by himself. It was too much for one guy to handle: facing the government, building a robotic army for revolution, and exacting revenge on his father. He required assistance. Inventive, tenacious, and reliable assistance.

With his hands resting on his fatigued face, he reclined in his chair and contemplated the many options. In whom might he put his trust? Who was strong enough to tackle something this big? Gradually, a strategy took shape. He need a group.

Mira: The Unruly Cybercriminal

The first individual he considered was Mira. They hadn't communicated for years, not since their college days when they experimented with systems programming. As a gifted coder and hacker with a rebellious bent that frequently landed her in hot water, Mira had always been the wild card. Following a very unpleasant confrontation with the government's cybersecurity division, she had vanished from sight, purportedly living off the grid.

It was not an easy task to find her. Arjun trawled through deep web contacts, private chats, and encrypted forums for days. Ultimately, though, he found himself at a darkly lit subterranean club after a mysterious message from an unidentified user.

Mira looked just like he remembered her, all black, with a neon tattoo that glowed slightly on her wrist and piercing eyes as always. She didn't appear shocked to see him. She even grinned, appearing to have been waiting for him to arrive.

She tapped her fingers on the rim of her glass and said, "Arjun Rao." When I saw you last, you were fiddling with drones. Why have you come to my area of the forest?

He spoke candidly. Mira, I need your assistance. It has to do with my dad. The goal is to eliminate those responsible for his death.

Her smile wavered for a second, giving way to something vaguely curious. She inclined herself forward. "Continue."

Kiran: The Outlaw Troops

Kiran, a tactical genius and ex-soldier, was next on his list. Kiran was a member of the elite troops, renowned for his unconventional tactics and unparalleled fighting abilities. However, following a falling out with his superiors, he abandoned the military to work as a mercenary.

It was simpler to locate Kiran than Mira. He was operating a private security company for well-known clientele while remaining undetected. Arjun found him in a training center, where Kiran was in charge of some new recruits.

Kiran saw that Arjun's gaze remained analytical and piercing, but his posture softened as he drew closer. Although they hadn't spoken since Arjun's father's funeral, their friendship—which had been developed during late-night discussions about tactics and warfare—had remained strong.

Kiran crossed his arms and said, simply, "You're back."

"Yes," Arjun said. And I want your assistance.

Kiran's eyebrow went up. For what purpose?

"To overthrow the regime that ruined my father's existence."

A pause occurred. Kiran looked at him for a long while, then nodded slightly. "I'm on board."

Zara: The Team's Soulmate

Zara, the team's emotional center, was the last person he looked for. Zara had accompanied his father on his work as a robotics engineer, who was passionate about building devices that had the power to transform the world. Her compassion was perhaps more remarkable than her intelligence. Zara had always supported the use of technology for peace and the advancement of society, in contrast to Arjun's father, who was more interested in its military uses. Arjun understood that without her, their goal may lose its essence since she served as his moral compass.

Since the government had taken over, Zara continued to do independent research in a tiny lab on the outskirts of the city, which halted her large-scale undertakings. She was bent over a sleek drone, her gaze fixed on its electronics, when Arjun entered her workshop.

Arjun called gently, "Zara."

She turned, looking confused for a moment before her expression softened. "Arjun? Why are you in this place?

With a little smirk on his face, he conveyed to her the gravity of his mission. "I require your assistance. I'm completing the task my father began.

The mention of his father's name caused her gaze to deepen. "Arjun, you are aware of the danger involved." He was murdered for the project.

"I understand," he mutely said. And for that reason, I must take action. But without you, I can't accomplish this.

Silence hovered between them for a minute. Then he sighed, and Zara gave a nod. "All right. I'm on board.

The Incongruous Coalition

Arjun was confident that his team had the abilities to do what was previously unimaginable. By managing cybersecurity, Mira would evade government notice and break into secure networks. Kiran was to take charge of the tactical operations and lead them through perilous missions using his military knowledge. And Zara, with her skills in robotics helping Arjun create and hone the machine suit and robot army, would be the center of their group, the one who kept them grounded.

There was a mixture of anxiety and friendship during their first team meeting. Kiran's methodical approach contrasted with Mira's rebellious attitude, although Zara's composed manner eased the unease at first. Arjun was relieved as he watched from the sidelines and unease. Though he was hopeful that these brilliant brains would collaborate well, could they really withstand the intense strain that lay ahead of them?

The walls between them started to crumble as the night went on. They related tales of their pasts, hardships, and tragedies. Kiran talked about the crazy missions he had survived, Zara talked about her hopes of using robots to alter the world, and Mira laughed about her run-ins with the law. With a little smile on his lips, Arjun listened silently, realizing that they were more than simply a team; they were becoming friends.

And there was something more in the middle of it all. Arjun hadn't anticipated the spark that was developing between him and Zara. At first, it was subtle—a fleeting look here, a kind there, make contact. However, as they toiled side by side through the night, their bond grew. He discovered that he was anticipating their private talks and the times when they would stand close and talk about their goals for the machines.

Distractions, though, were out of the question. The mission was too significant to ignore. However, as the days went by, Arjun was unable to ignore the emotions that were starting to settle in. He wasn't sure he could afford Zara's presence, but it was also a comfort.

The Scheme Takes Form

The crew started taking shape at the end of their first week together. By breaking into the government's communication systems, Mira was able to follow them wherever. Kiran laid out a thorough plan for their initial attack. Additionally, Zara made great advancements on the final design of the machine suit while collaborating closely with Arjun.

Arjun felt optimism for the first time in years, even though the stakes were high and the dangers were significant. He thought they had a shot since his squad was with him. They would overthrow the government, restore his father's legacy, and alter history together.

However, as they advanced, Arjun couldn't get rid of the impression that there was more going on and that their struggle was just the start of a broader conflict.
