Little Aiden awaited Jake's reply, but it never came. Instead, Jake squatted to his height. He spoke softly, looking directly into his son's eyes.
After seeing him at the doorstep a while ago, he knew in one glance that the young boy in front of him was unquestionably his flesh and blood. He was the product of their one night four years ago.
"Son, I'm not being cruel to your mother, okay? It's how I normally looked at people, even your mother. I need to speak with her for a bit. Please accompany Mrs. Hernandez? I'll see you once we finish. "Is that okay?"
Jake turned to face Mrs. Hernandez. He motioned for her to approach and grab the small kid.
Mrs. Hernandez approached Mr. Lewis after hearing him call for her.
"Come on, my little sweetie; let's check your room. I've heard that your and your mother's rooms are on the next floor, next to one other. Isn't it nice?"
She didn't wait for Aiden to respond before pushing him away from Jake's focused look.
Jake rose slowly and headed to his study as soon as the two were out of sight, unconcerned about Emily following him.
He's still angry at Emily for not telling him about the boy. If he had known about him, he would have brought them back a long time ago.
With much on her mind, Emily had no option but to follow silently. First, she was so unsure about what they needed to talk about that Mr. Lewis couldn't wait until the next day.
She's still jet-lagged and wants to nap before supper, but her benefactor does not allow her to. She begins to dislike the man before her as she gets to know him.
She was excited to meet her benefactor of the last four years, only to find out he was a jerk.
He gave them a grand welcome by sending bodyguards to welcome and protect them, but as soon as they arrived, he left without even a nod and didn't bother introducing them to the woman beside him.
What kind of attitude was that? If this is how he treats them, they might as well move out as soon as possible. First thing in the morning, she will contact a real estate agent to find them a suitable dwelling as far away as they can.
She was still in deep concentration and had no idea she had arrived. The door was wide open, so she didn't need to knock. She strolled right in with a light foot, sauntering.
She surveyed the study and its furnishing; it was elegant. A minibar was in one corner, and a coffee stand was in the other. A beautiful leather sofa was magnificently located in the middle. It was a sight to see. Then, her gaze stopped at the man.
Jake was already sitting behind his enormous desk, relaxing comfortably and waiting for her.
He was playing with a pen, twirling it on his finger, and a stack of files on the desk. She was unsure if those files were for her to read.
Emily stopped before the desk, standing straight and proud with no signs of exhaustion. She questioned, looking directly at him.
"Sir, what do we need to discuss so badly that it couldn't wait until I finally settled in?"
Jake lifted his brow, fiercely staring at her from head to toe and back. He saw how proud she seemed, standing before him with her back straight and showing no signs of aloofness or worry.
Looking at her objectively now, he noticed that she had grown into a beautiful and sensual woman. He could hardly remember how they had initially been met, but he remembered her figure so clearly.
A well-defined figure appeared to have replaced the baby fat. Her current appearance suggests that she has been exercising.
Emily felt as though he wanted to eat her there and then, his gaze piercing her being. She feels compelled to speak up because she knows he will attack her at any moment.
"If you're done, can we begin?" Her speech was scarcely heard, muffled.
Jake was jolted into reality as he overheard Emily's faint voice saying something incoherently.
"Did you just say something? I was thinking of where we should start with our conversation, and I didn't hear what you said, " he said casually and arrogantly.
His voice was not as gentle or soft as it had been with Aiden. That confused Emily, and it made her blood boil. Therefore, when she repeated her question, she sounded upset.
"I said if you're done gawking and have something you want to discuss, let's hear it." She's still standing and not sitting down, so Jake can freely discuss his desires.
"Sit down. It will take a while. We need to clarify many things, and you need to know and understand. Standing there like a king's guard will not help, " he ordered, domineeringly attempting to intimidate Emily.
Emily followed and sat down with her back still straight, looking at Jake without blinking her eyes. "Let's hear it! Since there's a lot to discuss, we need to start now. I ain't got all day."
Two lines were formed between her eyebrows, and it shows how irritated she is at the moment.
Jake pulled out a document from a drawer and showed it to Emily. "Look at this document, and after you're done reading, let me know, and we will begin our discussion."
He then got up to get a drink from the minibar at the study's far end.
Emily took her time reading the document. It contains the will of her parents and his parents, along with the agreement between their parents.
Her parents' will indicates that she is the sole beneficiary of all their assets, including the house, car, cash, and M. Group empire.
However, the stipulation was that she had first to marry Jake Lewis when she turned 21 years old.
Second, they have to have a child; gender doesn't matter. The third one was the hardest, as they had to stay married for at least five years. Only then will she be able to inherit everything.
Jake's parents stated the same thing as hers, except for the time they needed to be married.
Based on their will, they could get a divorce after giving birth to an heir, whether a boy or a girl. After reading that part, Emily was so overwhelmed that she couldn't breathe.
She paused and then composed herself before continuing to the last one.
The agreement between their parents...--It's clear that once she turns twenty-one, they must marry, or both of them will lose their inheritance, and all will go to charity.
Now, after turning twenty-one, she better understands why Mr. Lewis is her benefactor and legal guardian. She was frozen for a moment, contemplating how to go about it.
Jake saw her stunned expression. "Are you done reading?"
Emily nodded in agreement, not uttering a word. Nothing would come out of her mouth, even if she wanted to speak.
"Alright, then, let's begin..."
