ARCHIBALD SAT on the ground, his head resting on his knee. "Verity… Help me, give me the strength to do what's right. I can't fail again."

He didn't need to remove the gloves to know he was slowly withering away. Hearing the sound of hooves and the carriage wheel hitting the floor, Archibald still didn't lift his head.

"I thought I had told you to leave?"

"I have the right to stay or leave whenever and wherever I want."

"You are quite selfish."

"I leaned from the best." She shrugged, stepping closer to him. "And besides, I need to learn magic in other to destroy my family members. So I guess I need your help with it."

She stretched her hands out to him. Archibald finally lifted his eyes to hers. He sighed grimly.
