Chapter 26

Avery coughed awkwardly, tearing her eyes away from the tempting sight. "There's no living person on this island, only wild animals." She muttered, changing the subject.

Moving away from his line of sight, she sat on a boulder, staring out into the ocean. They fell into an awkward silence.

How was she supposed to act when stranded with her boss on a deserted island? What should she say? Lucas was at a loss, too.

He wasn't used to talking unless it was about business or giving orders to his pack members. Talking to his mate? That was entirely different.

Avery closed her eyes, pretending to sleep, while Lucas sat on a rock nearby. Seeing her closed eyes, he thought, There was no rush. Since his wolf has recognized her, there's no escaping from him.

''How can you fail such a simple task? Useless!'' a man shouted into his phone, veins pooping in his neck as his wolf almost broke out to the surface.
