Chapter 231: Self-Awareness

"Acute gastroenteritis, start with an IV infusion," the doctor said after briefly reviewing the test results and wrote up an infusion order.

"Ssss—" Xia Lu couldn't help but let out a sigh as she watched the nurse insert the needle into the vein on the back of Zhou Mingchen's hand.

"What are you doing?" Zhou Mingchen turned his head.

"Feeling the pain for you…" Xia Lu whispered. She had been afraid of needles since she was little; when vaccinations were organized in her childhood, she would hide far away, as if she could feel the pain of the needle that was inserted into other kids, "It's called empathy," she explained.

Zhou Mingchen, of course, knew what empathy was, but he did not believe in it. He stubbornly thought that there was no such thing as genuine empathy in the world, considering it merely a form of self-hypnosis.

"What did you put in my red bean soup?"
