Chapter 6: Happily Ever After

Under them, the metropolitan skyline shimmered, a sea of glimmering lights that reflected the wavering feelings between Darius and Aurora. Though Aurora was aware of it, the world under Darius Knight may perceive him as the same strong, distant man who could rule entire empires with a single look. She knew this was the real Darius as she stood next to him with her fingers entwined, the guy who had let her melt the cold barriers he'd spent years erecting.

Aurora looked up at him; pride, love, and thankfulness all swelled in her heart. "So... what now, Mr. Knight?" she questioned, her smile mocking.

His once-cold blue eyes were now filled with adoration as he turned to face her. "We live now, Mrs. Knight. This planet is ours, hand in hand, united.

They laughed briefly and deeply, the type that only couples who had experienced rain and fire together could enjoy. Not only was it a relief that everything had worked out, but it also seemed like a great feeling of cooperation because they had not only overcome challenges but also become stronger as a result of them.

Reestablishing Confidence

Darius had changed in the days after their most recent trial. more eager and able to communicate. His staff had been taken aback by the change, as they had known a Darius Knight who was not fond of showing off his devotion in public, much less grinning with sincere happiness. However, that Darius appeared to vanish when Aurora was around, leaving a guy who welcomed love and vulnerability in its place.

Both of them had been put to the test in ways they hadn't anticipated by the treachery that had almost destroyed them. Ever the protector, Darius had attempted to handle things alone, shoving Aurora aside in an idiotic attempt to keep her safe. In the process, he'd almost lost her. He didn't know how important it was that he didn't have to face the world alone longer until Aurora approached him and insisted that they tackle the threat together.

"Darius, you don't have to shield me from everything. Aurora had said, "I'm not some delicate flower," as she stood erect and angry in front of him, her resolve shining in her eyes. "As a team, we handle things jointly or not at all."

He had never experienced such humility as that one time. Darius had always held the view that depending on others was risky and that showing weakness equaled being vulnerable. However, Aurora had demonstrated to him that love was really about trust rather than dominance or power.

Furthermore, he had never trusted anybody more than she did.

A Lasting Love

Weeks grew into months as days continued to pass. As they figured out how to reconcile the love that had been sparked between them with their professional lives, their relationship flourished. Aurora's infectious enthusiasm grounded Darius, and his steady presence gave her the assurance she did not know she needed.

Together, they started to build a life. Aurora teased him about his serious behavior during their peaceful breakfasts together, filling their mornings with gentle tenderness Darius smirked at her unbridled excitement and nature. They would spend their nights cuddled up close to one another, sharing stories and fantasies, or just lounging in the reassuring stillness that comes from being understood.

Aurora gave Darius a cheeky smile one evening as they enjoyed the sunset from their shared penthouse balcony. "You know, I never imagined that I would be standing here next to Darius Knight, seeing him behave like a real person."

Darius laughed, a sound that still took them by surprise. "To be honest, I never imagined I'd be here either."

She leaned in closer to him and taunted, "Well, you're doing a pretty good job at this whole 'being in love' thing."

He put his arm around her waist and tugged her near. He kissed her forehead and whispered, "I had a good teacher."

Obstacles Ahead

Though mistrust and misunderstanding had vanished from their love tale, the outside world still clamoured for their attention. Knight Enterprises was a formidable organization, and with Aurora supporting Darius in a more official capacity now, the two had to overcome additional obstacles that put their professional skills to the test.

The economic world was unforgiving, and vultures were always hovering around, watching for any hint of vulnerability. However, Aurora had always been more than simply Darius's sweetheart; rather, she was an equal and a true partner. When combined, they posed no threat.

During an especially prominent business conference, a competitor CEO, haughty and conceited, tried to gently cast doubt on Aurora's talents in an effort to weaken Darius. Aurora answered instantly, cutting right to the point with a comment so astute and perceptive that the boardroom fell silent. Darius couldn't help but smile proudly as Aurora easily shredded the man's case.

Darius gave her an admiring glance as they were leaving the building later that evening. "Remind me never to get in your way."

With sparkles in her eyes, Aurora chuckled. It's too late to do that. However, don't worry—I believe I'll keep you around.

The Everlasting Promise

With each obstacle they overcome together, their relationship became stronger. Simple Sunday mornings spent in bed, last-minute flights to get away from the bustle of the city, and unplanned meals where they laughed till their tummies ached.

The most memorable event, though, was when Darius—always the stoic man—unexpectedly startled Aurora.

They were drinking wine and enjoying the calm night by the fireplace. It was weird that Darius was preoccupied. Just as Aurora was going to inquire as to his thoughts, he abruptly rose up and took out a tiny velvet box from his pocket.

With an unusually quiet voice, Darius said, "I've never been good at this." However, you've shown me that I don't always need to be in charge or own all the answers. I have no idea what the future contains, but one thing is certain: I couldn't bear to think about it without you by my side.

Aurora gasped in shock as Darius bent down in front of her and lifted the box to display an exquisite, unique ring.

Aurora Greene, are you going to be my wife?

Aurora was silent for the first time in her life. She nodded, her eyes welling with tears as she struggled to speak. Darius stood to entice her into his arms after sliding the ring upon her finger.

When he said, "I love you," everything seemed to be right in the world.

Darius and Aurora knew that their journey was far from done as they gazed out over the city, now more than just business partners but partners in life as well. They had discovered real love, which is uncommon. And together, they would keep creating a life that was full of obstacles, humor, and an unshakable relationship.
