The Death

TSK

A young man in his early twenties clicked his tongue as he kicked a pebble down the road. The man was wearing a black priest's robe and a silver cross symbol dangling across his chest as he walked down the road.

SIGH

He sighed for the 100th time while hanging his head down low in defeat. "This is the 37th rejection I have faced today," the young man mumbled.

"What went wrong?" he asked himself as he recalled his life events.

The young man's name was Victor. He worked as a priest in a small church in a corner of the city and was trying to get donations from the people, but he was rejected every time.

He grew up in a church as his parents abandoned him in front of one. The father looking over the church raised him and made him a priest.

"Hah! What did that old man do to get donations? I remember him bringing hundreds of dollars every week!" Victor scoffed angryily.

He didn't believe in God, as he thought that all this was to scam people, but he still chose to be a priest, as that was the only thing he knew.

TRING TRING

As Victor was walking down the road, his phone rang as it vibrated in his pocket.

TSK

"Who is it now?" Victor spat in annoyance as he took his phone out. The phone itself was nothing special, as it was an old model and was covered in rubber bands to hold it together.

'Shit! This damn phone!' he cursed as he struggled with the phone to answer the call.

Victor squinted his eyes as he looked at who was the one that called him; he took the call and answered, "Hello, Granny."

It was his grandmother, an old nun, who raised him along with the father of the church.

"Victor, where are you?" the nun asked, her voice shaking as she inquired about his whereabouts.

All the annoyance on Victor's face disappeared, and a small smile adorned his face while his jet-black eyes softened as he answered, "I am coming to the church. Is there any problem?"

His granny always spoiled him and raised him with love and care; he remembered once when she stood up for him against the father and took the punishment instead of him.

"It's nothing; a couple had come to the church for baptism for their child. I want you to come to the church as fast as you can." The old nun informed.

Victor's eyes widened when he heard his granny. His breath quickened, and his eyes shone in anticipation. 'New customers mean donations! I can finally pay for Granny's medicine. I must make them give us a good amount of donations.'

"Victor, are you there?" the old nun asked as she didn't get any response from him.

"Y-Yes, I will be right there! Make sure they stay until I arrive!" He then cut the call and hastened his pace.

He clenched his fists as he walked while a silly smile bloomed on his face as he thought of how he should milk the young couple for more donations.

He quickly glanced at the road to his right, making sure that there were no vehicles coming, but he forgot to look to his left due to excitement.

He walked in big strides, crossing the road when he saw something coming toward him from his left.

HONK HONK

"HEYYY!!"

BANG

THUD

Everything happened in a split second as a truck hit Victor, sending him flying away like a broken kite.

He fell on the road with a thud, breaking his spine and his skull. Blood began to leak out of his wounds, dyeing his black hair red.

The pendant on his neck was splashed with red, and his body had become disfigured. His legs bent in an unusual way while bones protruded out of his hands.

His ribcage broke and punctured his lungs while his heart slowly waned due to the loss of blood.

"Mhh," Victor let out a squeak from his mouth before blood began to fill his lungs, drowning him.

'Is this my end?' Victor asked himself as he felt his life fading away.

'What did I do wrong? Is it wrong to want to have money? Who will take care of Granny?' Questions began to flood his mind as he took his last breath while mumbling.

'If only I had a-----,' he died.
