"It's me," the person said softly and Beverly immediately relaxed.

Jace's voice had reached her ears letting her know she was not in real danger.

Freeing her from his hold, he spun her around to face him.

"Why did you do that?" She asked, her eyes glaring up at him.

"Just wanted to prove to you how useless that toy is," he replied, gesturing at her pocket knife.

"Why did you leave without your bodyguard?" Jace asked again.

"I do not want any bodyguard following me around and this toy will mess you up badly if you let it," she said in annoyance and stormed into the house.

"I'm sorry I scared you" he said after following her into the house.

"Don't do that again, it's very scary living in this part of the city. It's close to being a slum. All unimaginable things happen around here all the time and I thought I was going to be a victim tonight".

Beverly yelled at him.

Her voice breaking as she did so.
