Chapter 27: Foundations of a New Order

Aiden stood before a large, detailed map of Valora, his eyes focused and brows furrowed in concentration. The map was spread across a wide table in his command room, filled with annotations, marks, and colored pins indicating key points of interest. His mind was racing, strategizing the next steps to secure the future of Valora.

The wall was the first critical step. It needed to be built to protect their reclaimed territory from zombies, enemy factions, and any other threats lurking in the chaos. The main question was, where to begin? Which areas were most vulnerable? Aiden's eyes roamed the map, settling on the central sector—a vital area with strategic routes that connected the rest of Valora.

"This is where we start," he muttered to himself, tapping a section on the map with his finger. The central sector would be the heart of their new Valora, a fortified stronghold from which they could expand their influence. It had good access to resources, and building here would ensure a strong foundation for the future.

With the location decided, Aiden knew he needed manpower. They had the materials necessary for construction, thanks to the scavenging teams and Daniel Kim's logistics work. Now, they needed people—workers to build the walls and soldiers to secure the streets.

He opened a communication line to all the base leaders who had allied with him. "Attention, everyone," he said, his voice echoing through the comms. "The new bracelets are ready for distribution. Each and every one of your people must wear them—no exceptions. This is critical for our security moving forward."

There were nods of agreement from the leaders on the other end. They understood the importance of the bracelets, not just for gauging strength but for ensuring loyalty and preventing any betrayal.

"Next," Aiden continued, "I'm calling on two bases to send out workers. You'll be compensated for your efforts—payment will be in food, enough to support your bases for months. I'll also need soldiers to help secure the streets while we build. Haruto, Joanna, can I count on your support for this?"

Haruto Ishikawa, the stern leader of the White Oak Base, nodded. "You have our soldiers. They'll clear the streets and secure the perimeter while the wall is built."

Joanna Bell, the leader of the Crimson Haven Base, spoke next. "I'll send a team of workers. We're running low on food supplies anyway, so this works out for us. They'll be ready by morning."

Aiden nodded appreciatively. "Good. Get them ready and send them to the central sector. We start tomorrow."

After closing the comms, Jake's voice chimed in through Aiden's earpiece. "Hey, Aiden, while we're at it, I could use some more hands in the tech department—people with skills similar to mine. If we want to ramp up our technological capabilities, I need a proper team."

Aiden considered this for a moment. It was true—Jake had been working solo on developing new tech, and it would be beneficial to expand their technological capacity. "I'll see what I can do," Aiden replied. "I'll ask around and see if any of the bases have people with the right skills. We need to keep pushing forward."

Before Aiden could move on to his next task, Ryo, his weapons specialist, stepped forward. "I'd like to volunteer to go to the construction site," he said. "I've got experience in construction, and honestly, it's my second favorite thing after making weapons. I can help organize the workers and get the wall up faster."

Aiden gave him a slight smile. "Alright, Ryo. I know you're good at what you do. Head to the site and make sure everything is in order."

With that, the plan was set into motion. The next morning, they cleared out the streets, eliminating any remaining zombies and ensuring the area was safe for workers to begin construction. The soldiers from White Oak Base held the perimeter, while the workers from Crimson Haven Base started setting up scaffolding and laying the foundation for the wall. Ryo was in his element, directing teams, lifting heavy materials with ease, and putting his knowledge to good use.

Meanwhile, scouts were dispatched to identify any dungeons in the area. With more manpower at their disposal, the scouting missions became more efficient, and soon they had several dungeons marked as no-entry zones. It was a careful process, but the efforts paid off. They marked each dungeon on the map to prevent civilians from wandering too close.

Days went by, and the wall began to take shape. It was a massive structure, built to withstand both human and zombie threats. One day, Natasha Greene, the leader of the Nightshade Outpost, approached Aiden at the construction site. She was a beautiful and commanding woman, known for her tactical prowess. But around Aiden, she seemed different—almost flustered.

"Aiden," she started, her voice slightly hesitant but determined, "I've been thinking. When we build these walls, we should include checkpoints at key points. It would serve multiple purposes. First, it ensures that only those with bracelets are allowed to pass. We could implement a program to detect the bracelets, but we need to make sure we aren't tracking people's movements. Nobody would feel comfortable with that."

Aiden nodded, appreciating her input. "I see your point. We need to maintain security without infringing on personal freedoms."

Natasha continued, "Exactly. The checkpoints would also allow us to detect any potential infections before they spread, and it would prevent enemy agents from infiltrating. Additionally, we could develop a system for the top of the walls that detects anything passing over. If someone tries to climb the wall, they'd be detected immediately."

Aiden considered her words carefully. "That's a solid idea, Natasha. I'll have Jake start working on the necessary technology. We need to ensure that every part of this wall serves its purpose."

Natasha smiled, her confidence returning. "Glad to hear it. I'll help oversee the implementation."

Aiden watched her walk away, noticing the slight flush in her cheeks. There was something about her demeanor that intrigued him—an unexpected softness beneath her usual stoic exterior.

With the central area taking shape, Aiden called for Ryo again. "Ryo, I need you to build a new place for everyone from our base to move into the central area. We're going to start relocating here. This will be our new home base, our fortress."

Ryo grinned, clearly excited by the challenge. "You got it, Aiden. I'll make it a place worthy of being called our stronghold."

As the days passed and construction continued, the central area began to transform. The wall was nearly complete, and the core of Valora was becoming a fortified sanctuary. Aiden could see the vision taking shape, but he knew there was still much to do. With the government looming on the horizon and new challenges emerging daily, he needed to be ready for whatever came next.

But for now, they were building a future—one stone, one plan, and one decision at a time.
