When that old couple was alive, people would often talk about them either after dinner or before tea, their remarks sometimes sharp and piercing. The most common one used to educate their children was, "If you don't listen to your mother and study hard, you'll end up crazy and foolish just like them."
Or to scare the sons in the family who were of marriageable age: "If you don't take some initiative, you will end up marrying a crazy woman like he did."
Such gossip had never ceased. Whenever people felt bored and couldn't find something else to amuse themselves, they amused themselves by talking about the couple. But now that both of them had passed away, the neighbors' idle talk lasted only half a day.
