Kakashi woke up with a groan as the alarm clock rang.
To be more precise, he groaned due to the loud sound.
He was already awake before the alarm rang, but he was feeling too lazy to get up from the bed.
He then looked at the alarm, which was on the other side of the room.
He tended to keep it that way because, in the past, he used to turn off the alarm and get back to sleep if the alarm was within his arm's reach.
These days, his biological clock was in control of him, which is why he awoke a few minutes before the alarm.
Kakashi then made a decision.
In the next instant, a lightning bolt materialized from his finger and homed in on the defenceless alarm, which took the attack and then stopped ringing.
It now had a hole in the middle of where the hour and minute hands stick meet.
"Hmm, I think I should go back to sleep. Feeling too lazy," Kakashi yawned and then closed his eyes again, trying to get back to sleep.
He had an intensive training session yesterday, such that he hadn't really recovered much of his chakra yet.
After a few minutes of struggling to fall asleep, Kakashi finally started feeling sleepy, slowly drifting back to his slumber.
To the promised land—DING DONG
Kakashi's eyes opened rapidly as he heard the bell.
He turned his fingers into a fist and then back loose, wondering if he should release a lightning jutsu on the person on the other side.
DING DONG.
The bell rang again. Blue colour could be seen materializing on Kakashi's palms. "Nii-chan, it's me! Open the door."
Kakashi, who had almost released the lightning jutsu in his hand, stopped.
"Come back later. I'm going to sleep," Kakashi said in a low tone, but with the help of chakra, it was heard by the other party on the other side of the door.
"But you promised me that you would escort me to the academy on the first day!" The voice could be heard as whiny.
"Wait, is that day today?" Kakashi's eyes widened in despair.
Of all days, why does it have to be today? Why does the academy have to host the first day of the new batch today?
'Should I go and visit the people in charge of scheduling it today?' Kakashi internally thought.
"Nii-channnn!" Kakashi's internal rambling was broken by the loud voice.
"Fine, coming. Gimme five minutes," Kakashi sighed and then jumped out of bed.
He really had the urge to just go back to sleep and then tell the kid that the first day of the academy is dumb anyway, but he, unfortunately, couldn't do that.
Life was tough for an old ninja like him.
He quickly went through his morning routine like a ninja of his calibre.
From brushing to taking a dump, all was done within two minutes.
One can use the lightning release to contract one's body organs, especially those responsible for bowel movements... so the sky's the limit.
Same for brushing—lightning release could take care of all germs and stuff.
Kakashi then "ironed" his clothes with the help of lightning release and even took care of his bed hair.
In less than three minutes, he was ready.
If a person from Earth saw this, they would be very jealous as it would give them more reasons for being la—comfortable.
Kakashi opened the door and saw a familiar blonde-haired kid.
"That was so long," Naruto whined.
"I was thinking of whether to go back to sleep or not," Kakashi said truthfully. He was actually considering that which took so much of his time.
"What a lazy head," Naruto shook his head like he was seeing a hopeless case.
Kakashi rolled his eyes. "Yesterday's training session took a lot out of me, so I'm tired."
"Hehe, I heard that you lost to Yukio-nii-chan again," Naruto snickered.
Kakashi had the urge to bonk the kid, but he controlled it.
He would take the upper ground between the two.
"Yeah, the fight was interesting," Kakashi said in a neutral tone.
And there was silence as they walked in that.
"Have you eaten breakfast yet?"
"Nope, I was thinking of eating it with you, but I got lost on the path of trying to find your house, so now I don't have time to eat," Naruto sheepishly said.
Kakashi rolled his eyes as this reminded him of the excuse he always gave others when he was late.
Ironically, Naruto here was telling the truth.
"When does the ceremony start?" he asked.
"Hmm, it was supposed to start two minutes ago. That's why I told you to hurry up," Naruto said while looking at the nearby clock.
"Well, let's flicker then," Kakashi said and grabbed Naruto by the back of the neck like one holds cats.
"Wai—" Naruto didn't have much time to say anything before the world became a blur.
In a few seconds, they appeared in front of the academy.
Kakashi put Naruto on the ground, the latter seeing the world moving all around him. "Nii-chan, I hate you," Naruto said while trying not to fall.
"Jeez, not even used to body flicker yet? You've been subjected to it since you were a baby," Kakashi shook his head.
It was him being petty due to Naruto's earlier actions.
They entered the gate, which was guarded by two guards.
They didn't dare to stop or ask those two, as they easily recognized Kakashi.
Almost everyone in the village knew Kakashi.
He had a reputation to uphold, which had been changing since Kakashi became a genin.
"Oh, it's Jiji's voice. It seems he is giving the opening message or something," Naruto rushed inside while running, while Kakashi put his hands in his pocket and entered.
He took out his favourite book, *Icha-Icha Paradise,* and started reading it.
This book was one of the good things in the last four years that had happened to Kakashi.
It was like a constant that never changed.
Be it the first time he read it, the second time, the fifth time, or the thousandth time, all felt similar.
With proper spacing of time between consecutive readings, he never got bored of it.
Naruto listened to the old man's speech for a whole five minutes before losing interest.
The old man was in the stadium, while the children who had been taken in were gathered in front.
Parents or caretakers escorting the kids were at the back of the field.
Kakashi had made his way back there and saw Itachi standing.
"Hehe, no wonder Mikoto-nee-chan didn't come. She knew it would be boring as hell," Kakashi snickered.
"It definitely has nothing to do with that. She just had a mission. Don't jump to conclusions quickly, nii-chan," Itachi defended his mother's actions.
If she knew the inauguration was today, then she wouldn't have taken this mission.
"Yeah, definitely not jumping to conclusions. I wonder why she had to take a mission now, after taking one more than half a year before?" Kakashi smirked.
"It's just a coincidence," Itachi said in a neutral tone.
Even though he didn't believe his own words, he had to defend his brother's mental image of their mother.
"Sure~ Whatever you say," Kakashi left the matter and leaned against a nearby tree.
"So, why are you here? I was expecting Miyuki-sensei instead."
"I lost a bet, and now we're here," Kakashi said with a dejected tone.
He shouldn't have made a bet with her.
"Sad."
"Anyway, how's your training going?" Kakashi ignored Itachi's condolences and asked him.
"I think I am ready for the Jounin Exams."
"Really? I'm curious how it will go. What about Yumi?"
"She is also ready to be promoted. Nii-chan said so to both of us."
"He did? Then you guys are definitely ready for it," Kakashi hummed and then continued reading.
"Are you interested in joining the Anbu?" Kakashi asked this randomly, causing Itachi to blink.
"Hmm, I don't know. I've heard that it has many cons, and I could be given some missions by Danzo too, which would be disadvantageous at many levels."
"Don't worry. You will be under my division, so you'll be answerable to me only. What do you think?"
"It works that way?" Itachi blinked in surprise.
"Hmm, not really, but I can do it," Kakashi shrugged.
"I need some time to think," Itachi said after a few moments.
"Sure, just give me an answer in six days. Also, tell Yumi about this offer too."
"Hnn," Itachi agreed in Uchiha style.
