After Kaylar exited Wayne's office she headed towards the direction of the pantry distractedly.
It was hard to discern what Kaylar felt because her expression remained neutral and indifferent.
She wasn't as calm and composed as she was on the outside. She felt as if her life had ended, she felt like all her hopes of ever achieving all her dreams were crushed. She couldn't possibly get married.
With all these thoughts flooding her head, Kaylar prepared the coffee absentmindedly, at that point she was trying to process what had happened.
If she could go back in time she wouldn't have signed the contract.
Alas there was nothing she could do.
She shook her head in despair as she took the coffee to Wayne's office.
After delivering the coffee, she headed straight to her office to prepare for the day ahead.
Unlike Wayne's office, Kaylar's office was smaller.
There was a mahogany desk which had a swivel chair and two guest seats placed in front.
A white bookshelf was placed behind her desk. It gave the room a formal ambiance.
A few pictures were hung carefully on the walls and flower pots were placed at different corners of the room, which brightened the atmosphere.
The office was further illuminated by the light which came from the floor-to-ceiling window.
She surely enjoyed some perks as the CEO'S secretary.
Kaylar slumped helplessly on her swivel chair as she glanced towards the floor-to-ceiling window.
After releasing a deep sigh, Kaylar looked at her desk which was piled with folders.
She guessed that's what she got for taking time off.
…
Time flew by quickly and it was already lunch break.
Kaylar cleared her table before leaving the office; she was heading out to meet a friend.
Outside the company, Kaylar got into her car and floored the pedal before leaving the company grounds.
Twenty minutes later,
Kaylar arrived at Ceramika, it was a new restaurant she discovered a few weeks ago when she had to work overtime as usual.
She got down from the car and walked into the restaurant.
"Good day miss, do you have a reservation?" A young man came forward as soon as Kaylar stepped inside the restaurant.
"Yes I have a reservation under the name Kaylar Harper " Kaylar gave her name as her eyes scanned around the lobby.
"Give me a minute" The young man quickly checked his computer for her reservation.
"Miss Kaylar, I'll lead the way" The young man finally raised his head.
Kaylar followed behind the man as he led her to a private room.
"We are here, miss," The young man gestured towards the door as he spoke.
"Thank you." Kaylar flashed a smile at him before entering the room.
The young man stood outside with red ears as a blush slowly crept on his face.
'How beautiful could a person be?' He muttered softly.
He was flabbergasted by Kaylar's look especially when she flashed a smile at him.
She looked like an angel who had fallen from the sky. The young man quickly shook his head to get rid of his thoughts before proceeding to serve the other customer.
…
Inside the private room.
"Hey Kaylar, I waited for so long. For a minute I thought you ditched me!" An excited voice rang out the moment Kaylar stepped into the room.
"Mia, you think I would do that?" Kaylar pulled a seat for herself.
"No, I was just Kidding." Mia stood up and pounced on Kaylar without any reservation.
"Oh Kaylar, I missed you so much, how have you been?" Mia asked as she tightened her hug.
After Kaylar's parents got divorced, she was left heartbroken because her seemingly perfect family was broken. She had no one to turn to and that's when Mia came in and from there, their friendship blossomed.
"Mia, you haven't changed a bit if you keep this up I swear I will die of suffocation." Kaylar struggled in Mia's embrace.
Deep down, she felt happy, she haven't seen her friend in a long time.
"So tell me how have you been?" Kaylar asked.
Mia worked as a doctor in one of the country's most renowned hospital.
Aside from the good pay and yearly bonuses working at Cedarcrest Hospital was a challenging job, it required top-notch practitioners and highly trained personnels to work at the hospital.
And as Mia was one of the leading doctors in the country she had little time to spare, travelling for one training or the other.
"The usual, it's been so exhausting."
Mia replied as she casually picked up the menu to order a few dishes she liked, she then passed the menu to Kaylar to choose any dish of her choice.
After placing their order Mia looked at Kaylar with a gossipy expression.
"So how have You been?" Mia intentionally stressed the 'you'.
"Let's talk over the meal" Kaylar evasively replied.
After a while, the dishes got served and they started eating.
"Kaylar, come on, tell me something!" Unrelenting Mia cried out.
Kaylar twirled her fork around the food as she thought about everything that happened over the past few days.
Kaylar gave Mia a blank expression.
"Who bullied you?" Mia asked with a stern face.
Kaylar shook her head.
"Who touched you?"
Mia asked as if she was ready for a fight. She quickly thought of the possible grievance Kaylar suffered in her absence.
Hearing no response from Kaylar, Mia connected it to Kaylar's boss.
He always bullied Kaylar so she didn't expect much from him.
"Don't tell me it's your thick-skulled boss again!" Mia let out an exasperated sigh before bickering
Kaylar finally nodded her head.
She knew it, it was no other than Kaylar's boss, he always bullied Kaylar. Mia swore to herself that if she got to meet him one day she would give him a piece of her mind.
"What did he do this time?"
Mia asked after barely calming herself.
Kaylar looked at Mia before narrating her ordeal.
