Inside the building
"President Wayne"
Two men dressed in black greeted Wayne respectfully as he entered the building.
"Mm" Wayne nodded in response
as he continued walking.
Kaylar was completely left behind as she tried her best to catch up to Wayne.
She couldn't match up to his long strides.
Wayne suddenly halted in his steps and looked behind his back.
Kaylar met his impatient gaze and subconsciously quicked her footsteps.
After a while, they finally arrived inside the main hall where their marriage would be registered.
…
"Good day Mister, Miss" a middle-aged woman greeted as Wayne and Kaylar approached her corner.
"Good day," Wayne greeted back. "We are here to register our marriage."
"Okay give me a minute, I'll prepare the necessary documents," the woman said as she turned around.
…
After signing the necessary documents.
"Congratulations to the newlyweds, it's time to take a picture together, " the middle-aged woman said as she led Wayne and Kaylar into the photo room.
Wayne stood in front of a beautifully decorated backdrop with a stoic expression while Kaylar stood a few feets away from him.
The middle-aged woman was dissatisfied as she suggested a few poses.
"Stop acting as if you are being forced to get married" the middle-aged woman mumbled with knitted brows.
"Yes! That's it" the middle-aged woman joyfully exclaimed as she found a suitable pose.
Currently, Wayne's hands were placed on Kaylar's slender waist as she stared into his eyes.
Kaylar could feel Wayne's body turning stiff as he held her unnaturally.
She was rather captivated by his eyes, it was a light shed of brow.
She felt herself drowning in the depths of his eyes.
Click, Click.
Kaylar was snapped out of her reverie when she heard the 'clicking sound from the camera'
Wayne quickly unhooked his hand from her waist as he pushed her away.
He didn't care how she felt, he just felt uncomfortable at that moment.
…
Thirty minutes later.
"Don't let the news of my marriage get out"
Wayne issued a command to the men following behind him before entering the car.
Kaylar followed after.
'Does he hate me that much?'
Although Kaylar knew that their marriage was all for a show, it was still upsetting to think that she was extremely disliked by her 'husband'.
…
Inside the car
"Here, you can have a copy"
Wayne handed her a copy of their marriage certificate to Kaylar.
"What are we going to tell the elders?" Kaylar asked after a while.
"I'll settle that" Wayne started the engine before stepping on the brakes as he headed straight to the company.
He didn't give her any chance to start a conversation as he would always reply with a single word or nod his head.
Not that she had anything to talk about aside from the company's dealings.
Not wanting to embarrass herself any further Kaylar kept quiet and reclined into the car seat.
…
Kaylar was out of herself and failed to notice when they got to the company.
She was jolted back to reality when she heard the sound of the door being opened.
She climbed out of the car with dread-filled eyes.
She was scared.
Scared of everything that marriage entails, especially a marriage like hers which was based on convenience.
Kaylar entered the CEO's private elevator alongside Wayne while keeping a measurable distance.
Normally it takes a few minutes before getting to the top floor of the Frenando Corporation.
Kaylar wondered if she was breathing loudly or if the elevator was just too quiet as she stared at Wayne's back profile.
On a normal day, she wouldn't feel this uncomfortable on an elevator ride with Wayne.
She glanced at his imposing back profile and wondered why it was so stiff.
Kaylar's brow formed an arc as she muttered under her breath 'Why is the elevator so slow'.
Wayne who stood at the side quietly moved uncomfortably as he loosened his tie.
He didn't miss Kaylar's words.
He tried to ignore Kaylar's words but he then noticed that the elevator was indeed slow.
He tensed up while staggering backwards.
Kaylar was startled "Mr Wayne!"
She was caught by surprise as she rushed to grab his arm.
"Mr. Wayne! Are you alright?" Kaylar asked anxiously.
"Don't touch me!" Wayne flung her hand away as his step became uneven.
His palms were placed tightly on his head.
Kaylar was scared, at that point she didn't know what to do.
Suddenly she felt a heavy weight on her body as she crashed to the floor.
She struggled to lift the body that was pressed on her.
It was then she realised that the elevator had stopped moving.
Panic flashed across her face as she pressed the emergency button repeatedly while calling out to Wayne.
'He can't die
She repeatedly told herself.
The man in her arms had passed out.
A fresh wave of panic washed over Kaylar as she called out his name.
"Mr Wayne, Mr Wayne… Wayne! What's wrong" she cried out.
Wayne's body trembled in Kaylar's arms as his mind took him back to that night.
That night, he was filled with terror.
…
"Mom! Please don't do this to me" Wayne begged helplessly as he was being pushed into a dark room.
His mother hurled insults at him before locking the door.
His face was stained with tears as he shouted for help. "Mom! I didn't do anything, I did not kill Dad, please open the door."
He banged the door till he was left breathless and weak.
Thinking of the death of his father he burst into uncontrollable tears.
After a long while his eyes became heavy and he fell asleep.
It didn't take an hour before he was jolted out of his sleep while letting out a loud shriek.
Beads of sweat dripped from his forehead as tears rolled down his cheeks.
He blamed himself for his father's death, if he didn't ask his father to accompany him in the playground he wouldn't have been shot dead.
He bawled his eyes out, the one person he needed the most accused him of killing his dad and locked him up in a storage room.
At the age of six Wayne was both physically, mentally, and emotionally drained.
His body gave up on him and he passed away.
