My injuries, though it barely hurts compared to how it looks, never seem to actually heal. I don't see my health regenerating either.
"Are you alright, sir?", the village girl approaches me with a cup of water in her hand, offering it to me. I smiled brightly in response.
"It doesn't hurt at all! I was just thinking how long would this heal.", I pointed at the gruesome bite, though not easily seen because of the pants, if I were to slip the wound a bit to the opening you could see how my flesh is opened up. No blood gushing out of it, thankfully.
"Let me help you...", she says quietly before kneeling down, slipping her bangs to the side of her ears before placing her hand on my wound. Faintly, but ever growing a light glows below her hands and I see my health bar regenerating.
"It's healing...thank you. I didn't know you were a healer.", I feel a swarm of relief and my chest loosened from my worries.
"I'm just a farmhand, Sir.", she answered. She then moved onto a chair, sitting in front of me.
"Really? Don't you want to become an adventurer?", the village girl simply giggled from my suggestion.
"Adventuring is not for me sir, I like this peaceful life.", she responded.
"A peaceful life at the threat of wolves and goblins?", I answered jokingly, though as I hear it come out from my mouth I can feel that it can come off as sarcasm.
"And that's the most dangerous it could ever happen in this life.", she nodded with a smile. "But, if I were to chase something else, I would like to be a bard."
A handful of hours have passed since then, the sun have risen and it is now bright outside. Rinne, the one who healed me have started to tend to her animals. And as for me, well I am heading back to the guild.
Fortunately there have been no attacks since the last one. I don't believe I would be in the condition to have another.
My clothes tattered, my makeshift shield about to collapse as well, especially from having torn by the daggerfang's attacks. However, I do think I may have enough for a good gear after submitting the commission to the guild.
Entering the guild, I am greeted by the same clerk, or security guard? He always seem to be the one to greet me. However, right now he is not my business so I simply nodded and advanced towards Clara, the receptionist.
"Good morning, Sir Karl! Were you able to complete your commission?", she greeted me with a smile.
"I got five wolf bodies right here. And I guarded the farm as well.", I answered back, opening my inventory and taking out five bodies of wolves, all stacked in a box with a sign with "submissions" written on it.
"So we've heard from the guards. These are...daggerfangs, peculiar. But you've completed your commission regardless! Thank you for your service. Here is a pouch containing one hundred fifty gold coins, and fifty coins on the other for your bonus fee.", she lays down two pouches and I took it off, earning my first pay, and a popup saying I've completed the quest.
"Um, well there's actually something I'd like to say as well.", I took off the ear that I got from the goblin I fought. There wasn't any other particular look to it other than the ear, but I got EXP from it. "There was a goblin leading these wolves."
"A goblin? Hmm, scouts...or hunters?" she mutters to herself. "Thank you for your report! Is there anything else you've gathered?"
"The farmhand around those parts said she heard a group of goblins pass by the night before earlier.", I added to the information.
"Thank you for the information! Is there something else the farmhand noticed?"
"No, not really. She just said she was sure it was goblins."
"We appreciate the cooperation. We will make sure to scout the area of possible goblin camps. And if you would please accept this, a reward for the report." Clara takes out another pouch containing gold coins. Looking through it, it seems to have at least twenty coins.
"Can I do the scouting instead? I would like to take the commission." I might as well take the opportunity while it's in front of me.
"Hmm, well considering you did fought off daggerfangs. You must've been either quick with your feet, or keen with your reflexes. However, I do think this would be a dangerous task for you, Sir. We simply do not know their numbers yet."
Oh damn, well thinking about it now. I don't think I can handle being swarmed by goblins either. I suppose I'll just leave this to others.
"Understandable. Let me gear up for a moment and I'll come back for another request." the receptionist nodded and bowed. Feeling satisfied from my reward, I head off to the armor smith to get myself some appropriate equipment.
While walking, I feel my stomach tightening up and soon was grumbling. As well as the heaviness of my eyes, as if I am feeling sleepy.
Was there a survival system to this game? I thought to myself, checking my status through the menu, I confirmed that I did get two debuffs. One for hunger, which reduces my basic stats by one, and weariness which lowers my stamina and perception.
Come to think of it, I never had anything since yesterday either. And I kept running around as well. I do feel one sense of my enhanced however.
Getting a whiff of the meaty aroma of the skewers being grilled on the side, I took a short visit to the stall. Seeing the luscious looking meat, I can't help but drool from it's sight and smell.
"How much for one stick?", I asked, preparing my inventory to take out some coins to trade with.
"Just five gold for one. It's a fresh batch as well, newly grilled so I assure you it's the best you can have.", the store owner sales talk to me, however that doesn't ring much to someone who is already sold.
"I'll get five." twenty five coins is nothing if I could just sate my hunger. Getting five skewers, I continue my way to the armor smith while I eat. My weariness, a bit reduced from the warm food. I was able to at least get to the stall without my heaviness on my lids.
Opening the shop I was greeted by the smell of iron, and the sight of many displays. The displays contain extravagantly designed armor, some even engraved with gems or intricate details. And on the side, are simple ones. However, while I could go shopping for the gears myself, I do believe it would be best to approach the attendant.
"Hello, I would like to have a set of armor please. Around one hundred gold.", I approached the man with sharp ears and tall yet lean body. He is obviously what we would call an elf.
He smiled and nod, before moving to the gather the pieces. Having nothing to do, I simply leaned towards the counter and waited. I can see from here that he is carefully rummaging through the supplies, setting aside those he found to be appropriate for the request. Then a moment later he comes back with the pieces, laying it down on the clothed counter. Presenting it with a prideful smile, opening his arms yet his mouth remained shut.
Quite the timid man, is what I have in mind. Looking at the piece, I identified the pieces by scanning it with my eyes. An iron cuirass, leather gloves, boots and a leather cap. Most of it are light, and the only really heavy defense is the iron body armor. It is definitely a better option than being only in fabric at the very least.
"Thank you! I'll be needing this." I responded with a thumbs up before taking out a pouch containing a hundred gold coins. Now only left with seventy five gold coins left, I turn to see if they have a shield.
"I'll be taking this as well.", I said before leaving off thirty gold coins to the counter and taking the shield off from the pile. It's an round iron shield, a good replacement to my makeshift one. It is quite the heavy chunk, however now I'm secured by a durable shield.
I can feel my arm getting tired from the weight as well, it's like I'm getting some exercises from this. Now to get to a place to sleep on. There could only be one place.
Walking on the streets I see that the road is starting to get packed, armored fighters, wizards, rangers and hooded people as well, they must be rogues. I need to stray further or else I might get pickpocketed...
However the long walk is due to be over, I can feel my legs straining from the many hours of moving, only having minimal rests from yesterday to today. I entered the inn with anticipation. The hall is rather spacious, with tables arranged in good spaces and the counter with the owner having a meal of their own.
"Welcome! There's room free here, going to get it for the day?", the owner immediately greeted after noticing my arrival. His glasses glints at the light coming from the small crevice of the door.
"I'll have it, how much is it?", I asked.
"Twenty five coins for the night. Are you expecting anyone?"
"No, not really.", I answered, while taking out twenty five coins out of my inventory. As I placed it on the table, he lays down the key to the room.
"I'll keep that in mind. It would be the first in the leftmost side, second floor. How about any meals? Would you like to order breakfast?"
"It's okay. I'll just be resting for now.", I answered politely before taking off to the room.
I walked up the stairs, and I can hear the wood from it creaking as I take a step. The inn is not that run down, however I do notice that the wood for these stairs are rather old. Other than that, the inn is well managed. There are lamps to keep it well lit inside, windows as well to let the sunshine inside. Walking on the halls I see that the doors are in good condition as well. I don't think one can easily peak on here, or break it open easily.
Oh right, where was I? Yes, the leftmost side. I opened the door and there it is, a nice looking single bed. Locking the door, slamming myself to the soft mattress of the bed, I turn in for the morning.
