Yua steps out of a bus at a familiar place that seemed like Okinawa. When she had stepped out, She put on a sun straw hat to prevent the sun from hitting her eyes. Then she grabbed her luggage and proceeded into some town as well as walking past a sign saying Welcome to Okinawa.
A couple days prior
Yua was in the middle of cleaning around the apartment until she got a phone call from her mother. Yua hesitated on picking up at first, she had lost contact after a couple years.
And It's been a while since she had heard her mother's voice. But why now? Why did she bother to call Yua?
"Hello..?"
"Hi Mother."
"..."
"I've been well."
"..Seriously?.."
"Okay, I understand.. Bye."
Not much could have been heard from Yua's mom, although it seemed concerning.. But Yua's expression looked a bit disgusted after talking to her. Even if it was a couple seconds she hated speaking to her.
But she decided to keep her mind off it by continuing cleaning.. And by the next day, Yua had set off to the airport.
************
Summer break had finally begun as now most students spent their time at home, hanging out with their friends, or traveling. Katashi, however.. laid on his bed in boredom.
He had no one to hang out with due to the fact Kazuya went off to visit America with his family, while Yua went to visit her mother. While he was wasting away in his room. His little sister, Nasuna burst into his room.
"BROTHER!!" Nasuna yelled in excitement.
Katashi spiked up from his bed in confusion.
"Huh?"
"MY FAVOOORITEEE IDOL IS HAVING A MEET & GREET AND YOU NEED TO TAKE ME NOW!" She jumped up and down, almost yelling her head off.
"W-what? And quit shouting." Katashi seemed annoyed.
"Ahem.. Pardon me, But I said that my favorite Idol is having a meet & greet and you need to take me now!"
"What? No way.. Go ask Mom." He made a hand gesture telling Nasuna to get out.
At that moment Nasuna started to ramble on and on about why Katashi should take her. But he had decided to ignore her as he got a text message from Junko.
She asked Katashi if he would like to go to the beach with her and some other friends. And of course Katashi with nothing to do agreed.
"Are you even listening to me Katashi?"
"Huh..? Oh yeah, uhm.. I'll take you next time, okay Nasuna? I have to go somewhere."
"What? No fair!!" Nasuna pouted her face.
Katashi quickly left his house before his mom could get involved with him taking Nasuna to see her idol. After walking for a bit, Katashi had met up with Junko at her place where the two waited to be picked up by her friends.
The two had talked for a while about school and their plans during summer break. After a couple minutes had passed. Junko's friends arrived and not long after, they left for the beach.
The trip there itself wasn't too interesting, just a calm car ride with some energizing music.
Once they had arrive, stepping out the car and already their nose get's filled with the fresh salty smell of the ocean. The sun was bright, and the sea waves were shiny and clear.
Everyone was immediately excited to dive in, including Katashi. But first they needed to change. And shortly after everyone came out of the changing rooms. The girls were wearing tight and different colored pattern swimsuits. However..
Junko was the last to step out of the changing room. And when she did, she caught everyone by surprise. She looked somewhat heavenly and Katashi was completely lost in Junko's looks. But he collected himself and looked away once he found himself being creepy.
After all, he didn't want to become another Kazuya.
Junko approached Katashi
"Hey.. Thanks again for coming and I wanted to know if you wanted to join us in volleyball? It will be really fun!"
And within a heartbeat, Katashi accepted Junko's invitation. How could he deny it? After all her looks is what bribed him the most.
Before the game started they're were 3 players on each team. Team Snail had Katashi, and two other of Junko's friends. Team Crab had Junko and two random girls who wanted to also play.
And after the teams were settled the match had started. And just as it started the reality dawned upon Katashi. On how bad of an idea it was to play volleyball.. Seeing the girls jump high into the air and how much the velocity affected their breast when they landed onto the sand again. It was all too much and Katashi couldn't focus on the game.
He hoped he wasn't turning into his perverted friend. Sadly in the end Katashi's team ended up losing. Overall though it was fun and enjoyable. And now that everyone had a little warm up it was time to hit the water. The others decided on surfing and that left Junko and Katashi on the nicer side of the ocean.
The two splashed and played around, for the most part. Katashi was having the time of his life.
"Yo! The grill is ready guys! So hurry up and get out the water will ya?" One of Junko's friend shouted.
They all got out a couple at a time. And the food was served to each one. And as everyone ate and talked to one another Katashi had remained quiet as the only person he knew here was Junko.
One of the girls in the group approached him.
"Heya! Katashi Saitou, right?" She gives him a friendly smile.
"Uhm.. yeah."
"Ah well you can call me Mia. Anyways, why are you distant from the group? It's okay to make friends, ya know."
Katashi stared awkwardly towards Mia
"I'm not so sure. You guys look so familiar with one another, so bumping into the conversation will just ruin the mood."
'Why do I envy their friendship so much?' He thought to himnself.
"Ah, I guess it can't be helped. Well anyways. You can always come and join us anytime! And I'm sure the other girls wouldn't mind. After all, they have been giving you a look, heheh."
"They been what?"
"Oh nothing nothing. Talk to ya in a bit!"
Mia returns to the rest of the group
During this time Katashi couldn't stop thinking about Yua. It was weird.. he wasn't one to have someone hooked in his thoughts for so long. He wondered if she was ok and how was she doing back in Okinawa. He noticed something about her the last they had spoken. She looks so simple but yet she's a very complex girl.
Katashi thought long and hard and let out a big sigh.
"Ah.. I'm a fool.. I had almost forgotten. I wonder how you too are doing Ri-"
Katashi's sentence and thought process were cut off by an alarming shout.
"Hey! Has anyone seen Junko?"
Everybody looked confused because they didn't think Junko had come out at all to eat.
Everyone had started looking around for her and even asked other people who were at the beach as well. But it was most likely impossible as this place was crowded.
While everyone kept trying to look for her. Katashi had gone walking along the shoreline at the other side of the beach. Drawn in by his own thoughts he had hardly noticed the commotion that went on.
"Is she okay??"
"I think she's drowning!"
"Somebody get a lifeguard!"
He now had taken a look at what they were rambling about to be shocked at seeing the girl was Junko in the water. For the moment Junko was struggling in the water and once her movement had stopped everyone within the vicinity became worried.
Throughout the situation, something urged Katashi to jump in and help Junko. And so he did. Although he wasn't the best swimmer, it was enough for him to be able to reach Junko.
Katashi had used one of his arms to bring her head above the water in order for oxygen to flow.
"Junko?! Wake up!"
She was unresponsive.
He needed to act quickly. The ocean waves grew fiercer and larger slowly pulling them away from land. Using one hand to hold Junko and the other to get to shore.
Katashi's arms were on fire and grew heavier the more he battled the waves. But at last he was able to make it safely and caught his breath for a bit before checking on Junko.
"Hey! Junko!"
Katashi tapped Junko's face a couple times but regardless she didn't respond.
He then took it upon himself to perform CPR on her since it was the only other option.
Covering Junko's nose and hesitated at first while looking towards Junko's lips. But determined to save her, he slowly put his lips against hers and proceeded with the CPR routine.
It had taken three tries until he had gotten a response from Junko. She started coughing. Katashi helped her flip around so the water she had swallowed could come out.
"Thank god you're okay. Take time to catch your breath, I'll see if the others are c-"
Now realizing that Katashi had swam far from the spot that had set up at which was the other side of the beach.
"Shoot.. we're far away from them.. I'll see if someone lets me use their phone so you can dial them up okay?"
Before Katashi could walk off Junko grabbed his hand, Katashi stood in confusion
"Wait- Katashi. Can you stay? Please.."
"Uhh. Yeah okay."
Letting go of Katashi's hand the two sat down facing the ocean as well as the sunset.
"Katashi.. why'd you come looking for me?" She said, her voice slightly muffled.
Taking a glance at Junko, Katashi noticed she looked a little depressed.
"What kind of question is that?.. you know you had a lot of people worried. Why didn't you come out of the water once the food was ready anyways?"
Junko lifted her head now looking towards Katashi
"I wanted.. to kill myself."
When she uttered those words a shocked and surprised expression came over Katashi. Why would Junko want to do something like that?
"Shocker right..? You must be thinking why would a girl who is always positive and happy want to do such a thing?" Junko says smiling to herself.
"I can't even remember the reason even if I tried… I'm horrible."
A moment of silence fell between them. At a loss of words Katashi didn't know what to say that could come of any help to Junko. But it's better to say something instead of nothing.
"Look.. I don't know what events happened in your life that lead to this decision. But you shouldn't do something so carelessly. The reality of death is a scary concept and you need to know once a stunt like that is done… there's no coming back. And what will that do besides leaving sorrow and unhappiness in the air. Especially those around you who care."
"Sorrow and unhappiness.. huh. You know Katashi, you sound familiar around this topic."
"Well.. I must have had my fair share of death in the past that I can't recall." He scratched his head with an awkward smile.
The two once again sat in silence for a little while
"Hey.. when you said that if I were to die.. I would leave unhappiness in the air? And to those who care about me. Is that true?"
"Yeah. But why are you asking?"
Junko slightly moved her finger around in circle on the sand
"Does that mean..? Do you care about me, Katashi? Even if it's just a little.. Do you care about me?"
"Yeah, of course I do! I saved you because you mattered Junko."
Junko smiles
"Right.. I see. Katashi.. could you come here? There's something on your face."
Now leaning closer, Katashi suspected that Junko would wipe off whatever he had. But instead he was greeted with a kiss from her.
And as Junko's lips pulled away from Katashi's.
She spoke in a low soft tone. "Thank you, for giving me another chance to live, Katashi."
Katashi then began to freeze up as his heart rapidly raced.
But before he could speak Junko's friends had arrived and each one was grateful that she was okay. And so that concluded their trip to the beach and they headed home. But Katashi and Junko didn't speak to each other on the way back, besides a couple of eye contact the two had made to one another.
