Hidden Talent?

「 CHAPTER 15: Hidden Talent? 」

"W-What.. just h-happened!?" Kayden muttered to himself confusedly. He slowly grasped the situation by observing everything that was happening before his eyes.

He carefully gathered all of his thoughts as much and as fast as he could to further understand what was happening. He became calm, his breathing went back to normal and he was able to think straight.

He then connected what he had observed piece by piece. "By observing her movement, she has skills when it comes to combat." He thought to himself while observing what was happening as if time was temporarily slowed down.

"She couldn't have used the Orb of Beginnings because she hasn't left the camp or gone as far before." Kayden began to speculate, looking at Trish with suspicious eyes. "Then, back on Earth, she might be something that reflects her class... An Assassin class." He concluded. Kayden was now wary of Bianca and her background.

"Don't judge a book by its cover." A phrase suddenly comes out of Kayden's mouth realizing that Trish has another side to her, a much darker side.

After defeating the three goblins, Trish rushed toward the Hobgoblin but failed miserably * THUD! *, It punched her making her fly and crash to a tree * CRASH! *.

The Hobgoblin was too strong for her, It smiled as if it saw its biggest catch. The Hobgoblin raised its huge sword aiming to slice Trish's injured body.

* SNAP! * Suddenly, Kayden snaps his finger.

* CRACKLE! * "hurr...?" said the Hobglobin as small sparks flickered beneath its feet. It looked at its feet out of curiosity- * BOOM! * Out of nowhere, the Hobgoblin combusted into flames.

"RAAAAA!!" The Hobgoblin screamed, as his body engulfed in flames was slowly being burned. "Tsk.Tsk.Tsk." Kayden clicked his tongue.

He slowly approached the Hobgoblin while emitting a dark aura around his body scaring the Hobgoblin. "Ahh..ahh...I finally found someone Interesting but you ruined it."

Kayden's Inventory showed up and his blade slowly emerged. Kayden's eyes became blank and his face turned dark, he grabbed his sword and rushed towards the burning Hobgoblin slicing it in half like a piece of paper. Its bodies slid past each other separately and disintegrated by the flames.

"Tsk. I didn't level up from that." He muttered to himself. He returned to normal and stored his blade in his inventory.

Kayden saw Trish's Injured body leaning against a tree, unconscious. He lifted her, sat her down on the Goblin's campsite, and healed her wounds.

The bruises and wounds on her body immediately disappeared as if they were never there.

...

...

...

Some time passed and it was already sundown. The campfire crackling and sparking, softy illuminating the dark surroundings giving it a cozy feel.

Trish was struggling and woke up. She opened her eyes and slowly looked around while everything was still blurry.

"H-Huh.. Where-" Right before she could finish her words she saw that she was tied up, unabling her to move. "W-What!? Kayden!? What happened!? Hello!?" She yelled in panic.

Trish started panicking and her breathing got heavy and her heart started racing. She looked around and was alone, she got scared as glowing eyes were looking at her from the dark.

She tried to break through the rope but struggled to do so. As she keeps trying to escape she hears noises coming from nearby, she starts hearing footsteps closing in on her. She closed her eyes and braced for what was to come and then she heard a voice.

"Oh? You're awake! I'm glad, I thought you died. HAHAHA!" Kayden said as he laughed. Kayden approached the campsite and sat down on the fallen log as seats.

Kayden smiled and pointed at Trish.

"HAHAHAHAHA! You should've seen the look on your face!" He laughed at Trish's terrified face when she was panicking.

But all of a sudden, Kayden stopped laughing, his face turned dark and dead serious with cold eyes.

Kayden lifted his head and stared into Trish's terrified shaking eyes and asked in a monotone voice. "Who or what the hell are you?" She felt shivers and her feet went cold and she replied with a trembling voice. "I-I don't know what you're talking about.."

Kayden puts both of his hands on his face and took a deep breath to calm his anger. "Phew..." Kayden stood up and walked to Trish's back. "You know what I don't like the most?" He asked.

Terrified, Trish was trembling out of fear, she could not move and her heart was racing very fast. She could feel the killing intent of Kayden where she might die if she moved.

With Kayden in her blind spot and cannot move, she just hoped that he would not kill her. "P-please don't k-kill me.." she begged.

"You know, after my best friend died, I had a hard time trusting people, especially in a world where survival is at the top." He said as he walked back and forth in the darkness.

"I'd appreciate it if you would be honest with me!" "I'm a nice guy, I really am. But I don't like being backstabbed or betrayed!" "So, please! Just be honest and I'll be okay!"

After a moment, Trish stopped trembling and her presence became calm. "Fine! I'll tell you! I'll tell you my secret." She replied.

Kayden calmed down as he sat down to listen. Trish took a deep breath and closed her eyes, as though the memories she was about to recount were playing out before her eyes.

"It all started 19 years ago, a story I heard from my old man."

[ FLASHBACK ]

Rain poured heavily, the wind sweeping leaves into the air. A newborn child crying so helplessly under a random bridge miles away from the nearby village.

I was barely a year old when my parents abandoned me, I was left under a bridge miles away from my supposed birthplace. I was left to die.

A man passing by heard the loud cry of the child despite the heavy storm, he went under the bridge to find its source and found a baby lying with nothing but a cloth covering her body.

Luckily, the Captain was the one to save me. He took me in and raised me as his own. After I turned 10 he took me to his job, a National Protection Force.

A force that trains spies to protect the country from hidden threats and spies from other invading countries.

I was greeted with warm smiles and waves from the others inside as they welcomed me as their new member.

His loving, caring, and warm personality soon became cold and ruthless. He trained me for hours and hours every day and looked at me as if I was a bug.

He did not care If I was full of bruises and scars, he did not stop training me. After a couple of years, I learned so much from their training and teachings.

I got used to getting beaten up to a pulp and slowly developed my body. And right after I turned 13, I mastered their closed combat training.

Captain made me fight all of his strongest disciples. After I beat all of them, he did not acknowledge me and told me I was still lacking. I was angry, but I was trained to control my emotions.

One night, I sneaked out of my room and past the guards patrolling the corridors. When I heard footsteps coming closer to me I hid in one of the rooms behind me. I came across an open computer, with a game opened, [ LEGACY ].

I would sneak past security and the cameras every night just to play the game and browse through the internet. I would only be able to use the computer for around 3 hours every night to get enough sleep to train in the day.

Shortly after I turned 16 I was assigned to my first ever mission. It was a solo mission that even other disciples would avoid getting no matter what. But I have to do it to get acknowledged by the Captain.

The mission was to eliminate two significant politicians because they were corrupted, they were guilty of human trafficking, drug embezzlement, money laundering, and more.

I took on the mission knowing what I had gotten myself into, and as I stepped out of the base for the first time after six years, tears poured from my eyes as I saw the beautiful blue sky and felt the warm air.

It was a sensation and a scene that I hadn't seen for a long time after getting into the force. I took my time to enjoy the feel of the green bright grass that was dancing as the warm breeze blows.

Suddenly, memories of my childhood past flashed before my eyes. I recalled all the precious and warm memories of me and Captain. The tall grass where I would play, the playground where we would play hide and seek, and our home we we'll go after a long day of playing.

I became more motivated and steeled my resolve as I remembered what I was fighting for.

I went immediately to the given location of my mission, Manila. It is in the mayor's office, I looked inside the window, and inside were the two targets celebrating and drinking liquor.

I did everything I learned from training and quickly eliminated the targets without a single sound or struggle.

There were no cameras inside the room which made it much easier for me to kill them both. The guards watching outside the door didn't notice or hear anything so I left the area and my mission was complete.

I was ordered to come back to the base but I took my time to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the night in the city. I changed into normal clothes in the dark on the rooftop of the building and explored the city by foot.

I went to many places in Manila and ate food i had never eaten before using the money I stole from the targets.

After I'd had my full of the scenery and exploration, I went back to the base discreetly.

When the gates of the base opened, I was greeted with warm hugs and smiles by all of my fellow members. One brought a cake and some brought balloons, confetti and a sign written "CONGRATULATIONS and BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY!". I was filled with joy.

Captain soon approached me while slowly clapping his hand, but his face didn't seem too impressed or happy. He pulled out a little box from his pocket and opened it, inside was a medal of gold and silver.

"Congratulations on your first mission and, happy birthday." He said. I was shocked and tears slowly poured into my eyes, I saluted him and he simply turned back and left.

Even so, I'm happy that I was finally acknowledged.

From that point, I began to get more and more missions and some were missions with the other members. Even after all that was happening, I continued to sneak out and play [ LEGACY ]. I continued to do that until my final mission.

By the time I turned 19, I received my last mission. I was called to the Captain's office to talk about it. When I got there he handed me a letter. "Open it," he said.

Inside the letter, written, "ENGINEERING COLLEGE ACCEPTANCE LETTER". I was confused so I asked.

"Sir, may I ask what is this?"

he replied

"You killed over a thousand people and you can't read? AHAHA!" "That my child, Is your last mission." He looked at me and smiled.

"My child?" his words repeated to head.

"Your final mission is to enjoy life and experience the world you're missing out." He told me as he stared straight into my eyes.

My heart started racing as my face began to smile uncontrollably. Engineering wasn't in my expertise but who cares? I don't. I was happy, I was overjoyed, I didn't know what to do or to say so I just simply bowed silently and skedaddled from his office.

After that, I packed my things and played [ LEGACY ] one more time then I left for college.
