"Well, she kinda does." The Goddess quickly chimed in.
Adeline rolled her eyes. Yeah, yeah. She knew what the Goddess was about to say. She was brought into this world to change the plot, so she kind of had to 'save' the world all by herself.
They crept closer, sticking to the shadows as they approached the building. Dimitri gestured for Adeline to stay back while he peered through one of the windows.
"What do you see?" Adeline asked in a hushed tone.
Dimitri's expression darkened. "There are people inside. Refugees, by the looks of it. They're locked in cages."
Adeline's fists clenched at her sides. "Those monsters…"
Dimitri held up a hand, silencing her. "There's more. I can sense magic- strong, dark magic. They're performing some kind of ritual."
Adeline's stomach twisted. She knew they had to act quickly, but rushing in without a plan would be reckless.
