A New Friend

The morning air was crisp, a soft autumn breeze carrying the scent of dew and fallen leaves. The courtyard of the estate was unusually lively, yet there was a quiet sense of heaviness lingering in the air.

Soldiers stood at attention, horses saddled and supplies packed, all awaiting the final moment before departure. Aaron adjusted his gloves, his expression unreadable as he exchanged a few words with the captain of the unit.

Adeline stood among the gathered family members, watching her older brother with a mixture of pride and concern. This wasn't his first time leaving for the border, but each departure was harder than the last.

Aaron only stayed long enough for the wedding. But since that was over, he wanted to go back to the battlefield, he felt that it was his calling. When he left his home and experienced the cruelty of the battlefield, he felt like he belonged.
