Chapter 80: Economic Research Office

After finalizing his thoughts, Xia Yu began drafting the planning document for the new magazine.

With his memories of being the CEO of Warner, writing the planning document for *Economic* magazine was surprisingly easy.

After all, *Economic* magazine was modeled after *Fortune* magazine. Many of the foundational elements could be directly borrowed or adapted with minor adjustments to fit the specific situation in Hong Kong. This significantly reduced Xia Yu's workload.

If it were anyone else, it would be nearly impossible to achieve what Xia Yu did, but thanks to his exceptional memories, he had a significant advantage.

"Swipe, swipe, swipe..."

The pen moved rapidly across the paper as the planning document for *Economic* magazine became increasingly detailed, with the magazine's framework taking shape.

Once Xia Yu completed the draft, he reviewed it again in the late afternoon. Finding no issues, he stretched with a satisfied smile.

At that moment, Yan Wenhan knocked and entered, reporting on the progress of the new office location.

"Boss, the new office has been renovated, and the desks and other items have been purchased and arranged. When would you like to start the relocation?" Yan Wenhan asked respectfully, bowing slightly.

Xia Yu raised an eyebrow, surprised at Yan Wenhan's efficiency. He had expected the process to take a few more days, but the new office was already ready for relocation.

After some thought, Xia Yu said to Yan Wenhan, "Since it's already late, moving today isn't feasible, and not all work may be completed. Let's move tomorrow morning. Please inform all employees to prepare."

"Understood, boss!" Yan Wenhan nodded in agreement.

"By the way, what's the status of the fifth floor?" Xia Yu recalled that the new magazine would need a separate office space and a confidential environment. He had in mind the fifth floor of the rented building.

The company had been continuously recruiting, and with future expansions planned, Xia Yu had allocated the first and second floors as new office spaces. They were sufficient for the current staff and future growth.

Since the third, fourth, and fifth floors were not yet in use, Xia Yu had only instructed Yan Wenhan to clean them, without planning to use them immediately.

But now, with the *Economic* magazine project coming up, it was necessary to utilize the space.

"Boss, the third, fourth, and fifth floors have also been cleaned. They are ready to be used as soon as we add office supplies," Yan Wenhan reported.

"Please get the fifth floor ready for use as we will be needing it soon," Xia Yu instructed.

"Okay!" Yan Wenhan nodded.

"Also, take a look at this. I've just written a planning document for a finance magazine. The fifth floor will be used for this magazine. For the time being, the company's focus will also be on this magazine," Xia Yu said, showing Yan Wenhan the planning document.

"Sit down and let me know your thoughts after reading it."

Yan Wenhan sat down and began to read the document carefully.

Having spent five years at the Financial Times and with London being a global economic hub, Yan Wenhan was well-acquainted with magazines like *Fortune* and *Business Week*. Additionally, the *Economist*, one of the four major finance magazines, was British, so he was familiar with finance magazines in general.

As he read the planning document, Yan Wenhan quickly understood Xia Yu's intentions and felt pleased. It seemed that Xia Yu had a far-sighted vision and was not confined by conventional practices.

Even if Xia Yu had not mentioned it, Yan Wenhan had planned to suggest starting a finance magazine eventually. With the development of *Jiuding Daily* progressing well and Xia Yu's expertise in finance and business, launching a finance magazine was a valuable opportunity that other newspapers had not exploited.

Moreover, a finance magazine would greatly benefit *Jiuding Daily*.

Soon, Yan Wenhan finished reading the planning document. He looked at Xia Yu with admiration and said, "Boss, this plan is excellent. I can't think of any additional suggestions."

His tone was filled with respect and appreciation.

Yan Wenhan's discerning eye was evident, and even by his high standards, Xia Yu's magazine plan was flawless. It resembled something an experienced media industry veteran would create, not the work of a young boss.

Nevertheless, Yan Wenhan could only marvel at Xia Yu's genius.

Hearing Yan Wenhan's praise, Xia Yu smiled faintly and said, "I'll leave this project to you. I'll personally get involved when I can, but you will handle the initial preparations."

"Please give me your instructions, boss," Yan Wenhan said quickly, taking out a small notebook to record the details.

Xia Yu was pleased to see Yan Wenhan's preparedness. Not everyone carried paper and pen for such situations, so a person who was well-prepared was always appreciated.

"This magazine must be of high quality and set a benchmark for finance magazines in Hong Kong, so we need to have the right talent."

"Write an announcement to recruit high-paying positions for specific economic analysts. Also, contact university professors and scholars specializing in economics and finance to invite them as our consultants."

"Everyone will be part of the Economic Research Office. The entire fifth floor of the new office building will be designated for this office. For confidentiality, only members of the Economic Research Office, you, and I are allowed in. No one else is permitted without authorization."

"For the first issue, the magazine will feature rankings. Considering manpower constraints, we will start with two lists: the Hong Kong Rich List and the Business Ranking, each with a hundred entries. Rankings will be based on stock market capitalization, and for non-listed companies, valuations should be based on actual conditions, aiming for accuracy. These lists are crucial and must be flawless."

"This magazine will be published weekly, so we need sufficient staff. Recruit as many people as needed; having more is better than having too few. Once the magazine is established, salaries will be a small expense and will quickly be recouped."

"These are the current requirements. If there are any additional instructions later, I'll let you know." Xia Yu thought for a moment and felt there were no further instructions needed.

"Got it, boss. I'll make a note," Yan Wenhan said, nodding.

"Any questions?" Xia Yu asked.

"None for now," Yan Wenhan shook his head.

"Then, you can go ahead and start your tasks. Work hard."

Yan Wenhan agreed once more and left the office to relay Xia Yu's relocation instructions.
