Chapter 84: Interpol

The next day was Sunday. Xia Yu spent the day handling matters at the company before driving to pick up Xia Jun.

It had been a long time since Xia Yu had gathered with Xia Jun and Xia Lei, and today was Xia Lei's birthday. Xia Yu had planned to celebrate it with Xia Jun, as they had discussed a few days earlier. It was a good day since Xia Jun was also on leave.

After picking up Xia Jun, they drove to their destination.

"A-Yu, I don't know what's up with A-Lei. He doesn't want to go to a fancy restaurant for his birthday and insists on going to a roadside stall. He says there's a place with great flavor. I really don't believe it can compare to a big hotel," Xia Jun said as they drove.

"Ha-ha, A-Lei said it's an old place. The ancestors were once palace chefs, so there might be some secret recipes. It's worth a try. A-Lei shouldn't disappoint us," Xia Yu replied with a smile.

"I'm just saying this casually. As long as the three of us are together, it doesn't matter where we eat," Xia Jun said with a smile.

...

After about ten minutes of driving, making several turns, they finally arrived at the roadside stall. Unfortunately, there were no parking spots in front of the stall, so Xia Yu had to let Yan Shining park the car in an empty lot a few meters away.

"Alright, this is it. And we can see A-Lei," Xia Jun said, getting out of the car and looking at the store's name.

Xia Yu looked over and indeed saw Xia Lei waving at them. The three of them hurried over.

Upon reaching the entrance, Xia Yu noticed that the place was quite busy, with all tables inside occupied. Only a few seats were available outside.

However, Xia Yu wasn't concerned about such details. They were from humble beginnings and were dining with his brothers, so he didn't mind.

The three of them quickly found a table and sat down, while Xia Lei took the menu to order.

Due to the crowd, the dishes were served slowly. Fortunately, there were snacks like sunflower seeds and peanuts available, so they started munching on those.

"A-Lei, you seem quite familiar with the owner of this place. Do you come here often?" Xia Yu asked, noticing that Xia Lei was chatting amiably with the owner and that their table had more snacks than others.

"This place is under my protection. But honestly, the food here is really good," Xia Lei said with a smile.

Xia Yu shook his head with a smile and said, "No wonder you came alone. But even on your own turf, you should pay attention to safety."

"A-Yu, don't worry. I have some brothers nearby, just sitting a bit farther away."

Xia Lei gestured towards a nearby spot. Xia Yu looked over and saw a few people sitting in front of a nearby store. When Xia Lei glanced their way, they nodded in acknowledgment.

"Always be cautious when dealing with such matters," Xia Jun added, spitting out a sunflower seed shell.

Xia Lei nodded and continued chatting.

At that moment, Xia Yu noticed two foreigners passing by and stopping in front of the convenience store next to them, seemingly to buy cigarettes.

Xia Yu casually glanced and then looked away, not surprised, as there were many foreigners in Hong Kong.

"Clink!"

Suddenly, a light sound caught Xia Yu's attention. He looked over reflexively and saw that a foreigner had dropped something while pulling out money. The foreigner was bending down to pick it up.

Xia Yu glanced casually and then his gaze sharpened. He noticed that the foreigner was about to look his way, so Xia Yu nonchalantly turned back and continued chatting with Xia Lei and Xia Jun, pretending not to notice.

However, out of sight of the two foreigners, Xia Yu furrowed his brow slightly and kept an eye on them while continuing the conversation, until he saw the two foreigners enter a nearby hotel. Xia Yu noted the name of the hotel.

"What are they doing here? Is something going to happen?" Xia Yu wondered to himself.

Xia Jun and Xia Lei, who were familiar with Xia Yu's expression changes, could tell he was concerned. Since the foreigners hadn't left yet, they refrained from asking questions and went along with the pretense.

Once the two foreigners left, Xia Lei looked around and asked quietly, "A-Yu, what's up with those two foreigners? Did something happen?"

After thinking for a moment, Xia Yu decided not to hide anything, especially since the two individuals' identities were somewhat special. It was better for Xia Lei and Xia Jun to know.

He whispered, "Those two are Interpol agents."

Upon hearing this, Xia Lei and Xia Jun's expressions changed.

Xia Lei didn't know what Interpol was, but from the name, he understood they were police. Given his background, he had an inherent dislike for police, so he naturally needed to be cautious.

Xia Jun, being a police officer himself, knew well what Interpol was.

Interpol maintains political neutrality and does not involve itself in political, military, religious, or racial crimes, nor in non-transnational crimes.

Interpol primarily investigates terrorism, organized crime, money laundering, arms smuggling, human trafficking, drug trafficking, child exploitation, high-tech crime, and corruption.

So, the presence of Interpol meant there were significant cases in the area.

Remembering that the atmosphere in the police station had been tense lately, Xia Jun realized it might be due to Interpol's focus on certain individuals in Hong Kong, or people under Interpol's watch were currently active in Hong Kong.

He was surprised that Xia Yu had recognized them. Xia Jun wondered how Xia Yu had identified them.

"A-Yu, how can you be sure they are?" Xia Jun asked quietly.

Interpol usually collaborates with local police, which concerned Xia Jun as he might be involved in future actions. So, he was keen to know more.

Seeing Xia Jun and Xia Lei's interest, Xia Yu explained, "One of them dropped something earlier. It was an ID badge with the full name of Interpol written on it."

Xia Jun and Xia Lei understood, but Xia Lei still didn't know what Interpol did. He asked again.

Xia Jun quickly explained, and after hearing it, Xia Lei relaxed and said nonchalantly, "It's fine. It has nothing to do with me. They wouldn't target someone like me."

Xia Yu nodded. He had heard about the Tiger Gang from Xia Lei and knew it wasn't significant enough to attract Interpol's attention.

Still, he advised, "Keep an eye out in the meantime. The police's oversight in Hong Kong will be stricter."

Xia Jun agreed with Xia Yu's advice.

Xia Lei nodded without objection.

At that moment, the restaurant started serving the dishes.

"Let's not talk about this anymore. Let's try the food," Xia Lei said, inviting them to dig in.
