CHAPTER 28: PICKING THE KIDS FROM SCHOOL

The next day, Briar, after sending the kids and Logan to school and work, was home alone, if she didn't include the staff at home.

It was the day that she both loved and dreaded. She was going to visit the ancestral home today.

It was the day that she was going to be introduced as the daughter-in-law and not just the nanny. How could she not be excited and anxious?

To prepare for the weekend, since they were going to celebrate Logan's birthday a night early on Sunday and return to the mansion on Monday, a lot of things needed to be prepared.

That was something that she had gotten used to preparing over the years, so it wasn't a hassle for her.

She started with her clothes and Logan. When she was done with that, she went to the third floor and started packing the kids' bags.

Once that was done, time had flown pretty quickly.

Being a Friday, Briar had another job, and that was to pick up the kids at school.

Speedily, she got a quick shower and dolled herself prettily before leaving.

When she went outside, the black SUV was waiting in place already.

Briar got into the car, put on her seatbelt, and the car drove away.

On the way to pick up the first child, Tiana, she was on the phone concentrating as she chatted with someone.

[B: Are you sure that this is true?]

[X: How can I lie to you? Since you wanted to find some dirt on her, I dug everything I could and I can assure you; that she got herself a fraud of a man!]

Reading that, Briar's lips twitched as a glint of gloating flashed in her eyes.

[B: Hehe, if that's the case, then things would surely get interesting. Keep the evidence for now. As long as she doesn't make a move on me, I will not find trouble with her.] Her eyes flashed with a murderous glint as she wrote that.

[X: and if she does?]

[B: Hehe, can you even ask that? I will drag her with me. No one will mess with me this time!]

[X: That's it, girlfriend. You have suppressed your desires for far too long. When is he wedding you?]

Briar sighed dejectedly when she heard that. When was he going to marry her and give her a grand wedding?

She didn't even know.

Last night, he was very respectful and didn't even hold her hand. Was she no longer that attractive to him anymore?

She didn't know anymore.

[B: I don't know but I will fight for it.]

[X: Remember that you aren't alone.]

[B: Um, don't worry. I won't.]

[X: Also, don't forget that next week, we will be getting the rings. Make time.]

Reading that, Briar's eyes flashed with a mysterious light before she typed back, [I won't forget. I have been waiting for a very long time for this.]

[X: Hehe, same here. Gotta go. The boss is calling!]

Briar chuckled when she read that.

[B: Um, go and work hard. Don't just cause havoc there.]

[X: Hehe, I will try my best not to kill that bastard fast. Later, xoxo.]

[X: Offline.]

Briar shook her head as she exited the chat room.

'Like always, this dear friend of mine never lingers once she is done!' amusement on her face as she thought of this other best friend of hers.

A best friend that Vivian had never seen before. Who said a girl must have one close friend?

Briar closed her eyes with a smile as she recalled what her friend X had told her. To think that the person who had flaunted heavily in front of her was having such dark secrets. Briar couldn't wait to confront the other.

They said that if you can't beat them, join them. She wasn't one to join others easily.

If someone tries to beat her, she will do everything she can to beat the other back until that person surrenders. She won't easily surrender. She had done that before and ended up eating a huge loss.

What she had lost back then, she could never regain it back in her life. So, this time, whoever wanted her to surrender, she would make that person surrender. Even if that person holds an important position in Logan's heart.

She was going to fight fire with fire and see whose fire was going to go out first.

It wasn't long before the car stopped by the roadside.

At this time, the kids were already coming out of the gates. From grade zeros to grade seven.

Tiana was in grade 2, primary school. A small adult.

Briar didn't wait in the car but alighted.

As soon as she did, she walked towards the gate to wait for her youngest.

When she reached the gate, she stopped there, thinking to herself when the girl was going to come out.

While she waited, she heard a familiar voice calling out to her.

Upon hearing it, a smile blossomed on her face as she turned her head to look at the caller.

"Briar, it's been a while!" a handsome man smilingly said to her as he approached her.

Briar seeing this man couldn't help but nod with a smile as she responded, "Dave, it's indeed been a while. How have you been?" her tone was amiable.

Those waiting for their kids could tell that these two knew each other.

Dave's eyes squinted as he looked at Briar, who had become prettier after not seeing her for nearly two weeks.

"I have been doing great. For a moment, I thought that something happened to you!"

Upon hearing that, Briar threw her head to the back and burst into a hearty laughter for a while.

Dave watched as Briar laughed like that with a smile on his face.

He loved it whenever she smiled or laughed. She was the prettiest, and it made him fall for her more.

After having her moment, Briar wiped the tears from her eyes, thinking to herself how very prophetic this school friend of hers was.

"Nothing of that sort happened. Just had to deal with some home matters."

Dave heaved a sigh of relief when he heard that. He had been worried, thinking that she was fired from her job. But when his daughter told him that Tiana didn't mention anything of that sort, he decided to check on her today.

Seeing her in person, he was relieved. At least he was going to keep on seeing her in the future.

"If you don't mind, how about we exchange numbers?"

They have known each other for a year or so. They were brought together by the kids, so they were considered friends as well.

Briar didn't see anything bad with this matter. Chatting with classmates' parents didn't seem to be disallowed, so she exchanged numbers with him.

With the number acquired, Dave was over the moon. Now he could chat with her whenever he could.

As for Briar, a mysterious glint flashed in her eyes as she saw Dave's reaction.

'This will come in handy one day!'

The two guardians continued with their chat for a while before the kids appeared together alongside a group of friends.

When Briar spotted Tiana, she threw Dave out of her mind. Who was he compared to her baby?

Simultaneously, Tiana, who spotted her second mother, ruthlessly abandoned her friends as she dashed towards the other while happily calling, "Second mother!" and that didn't faze those who heard her at all.

After all, most parents were regulars. They had seen this a lot of times; they were so used to it.

Even when Dave heard it, he didn't feel bothered. After all, he knew that's how Tiana called Briar, the nanny. It wasn't like the title meant that she was Tiana's father's second wife.

Unfortunately, this time he was wrong.

Briar opened her arms and scooped the enthusiastic child in her arms before swirling around with her.

"Hahaha!" Tiana's giggles sounded all over, making some of the kids look at their parents eagerly.

Unfortunately, they were doomed to be disappointed.

After making the little girl happy for a moment, Briar didn't put Tiana down but carried her.

Tiana wasn't heavy and carrying her wasn't a big deal.

As for the seven-year-old Tiana, she shamelessly hangs on her second mother's body like a koala, so thick-skinned that she didn't even think of getting down.

Dave held his daughter's hand as he watched Briar and Tiana with amusement on his face. The bond between the two was very good. If he got lucky and married her in the future, his daughter Kelly won't suffer.

She would love her the same way she loves Tina.

He has a great eye for women.

She would make a great wife and mother.

He could foresee the future already.

Thinking like that, his lips curled upwards in anticipation.
