CHAPTER 50: BIRTHDAY BANQUET 4

The others, seeing Madam Hilary's action, could only click their tongues in frustration. If they had known, they could have moved faster. Now there wasn't any chance to make a move at the kids anymore.

Luckily, Anna wasn't in the room. Otherwise, it would be a double blow.

Speaking of the devil and he will appear.

Anna, who was in everyone's thoughts, made her second appearance and this time she arrived with Alice holding her head high.

Seeing the combination of the two, several ladies wilted. Having the support of a family member was different from them who could only rely on tricks.

They hated Anna so much; that they wished they could shred them to pieces.

Meanwhile, Anna, the person being hated on, scanned the crowd as soon as she walked in and in a short moment, her eyes came across the person he was looking for; Bertha.

She had indeed come for the banquet. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the familiar haughty young master standing next to her with a flattering expression.

Her fist clenched as her jaws tightened watching how Bertha was being flattered by a young man, so many years her junior and on top of that, a scion who was revered and in demand by women her age.

How could Bertha be so lucky all the time?

She just didn't get it.

Just as she was about to focus on the front, she saw Bertha's lips curling upward as she mouthed, 'I am just starting!' and her blood went cold.

Just how did she offend Bertha?

She didn't even remember pissing off someone like her.

Suddenly she felt like crying, but there were no tears to spill.

 ****

A birthday banquet wasn't that difficult to host, especially when everything had been prepared orderly in the first place.

With the birthday person at the scene, the MC took on his job and started the banquet officially.

The gifts were given, and the well-wishes were presented as well.

The purpose of hosting such banquets was more to connect with others and not like child parties where kids might go around playing. Adults didn't have much time for that.

So once the important parts were done with, it was time for Logan or anyone from the family to give a speech before letting the real networking start.

There was still the first dance everyone was looking forward to.

In fact, most ladies came to the banquet solely for that purpose, even though the chances of getting a dance from Logan were slim.

But who knows, a miracle might happen.

When it was time for the speech, Logan stood on his feet, something that he had never done previously.

Logan wasn't a huge fan of talking unnecessarily when other people could do the job for him. However, this time was different. He needed to go up there and speak with his mouth to leave a great impact.

When Madam Meyer and the sister siblings saw Logan doing that, they all smiled, knowing what was coming.

On the other hand, Anna had no idea what was happening as at that moment, she was looking at Logan with a love-struck expression, no longer hiding her feelings for the man.

If she continued to play hide and seek, she would find herself so old and a spinster. She might as well grasp the chance and make a move before it's too late.

"Today's dance will definitely be yours!" Madam Hilary assured her daughter as she looked at Logan, who was now standing up front.

At hearing that, Anna blushed as she looked away and somewhat ended up facing Bertha. The moment she saw the other, her gaze flickered with fear and goosebumps appeared on her skin. Inwardly, she wondered why the other was still focused on her like that.

Could it be that she was interested in Logan as well?

However, she quickly brushed that thought away as Bertha started entertaining her young lover without looking at Logan at all.

Since she wasn't interested in Logan, then why go through the trouble of making things difficult for her?

Anna was at a loss.

However, as she was in the middle of thinking like that, Logan's voice sounded throughout the hall, jolting her back to her senses.

"I want to say thank you everyone for taking out time from your schedule to attend my fortieth birthday and to celebrate with me. It's really an honor to have people like you here with me," Logan said, his tone grateful and thoughts unknown as he looked at the group of people who all came for different purposes.

How many of these people truly wished her well? Only the deities know and he didn't care.

Since he needed to keep face and maintain the tradition, he didn't mind playing along. After all, who could say exactly that they could soar, relying on their own abilities?

For him to be where he is today, without the help, whether directly or indirectly, of other people. He would be just mediocre.

Of course, without effort from his side, it would be meaningless as well.

So, as much as he disliked the hypocrisy of the people attending his party, he also needed them. One can't be rich without people to step on or people to boost up or to boost them.

There should always be a balance in everything.

"Today is also a good day, and I have important news to share with everyone," with a smile on his face this time, he said as he scanned the crowd, his gaze lingering for a moment at Anna who blushed furiously at being gazed at.

It was just brief; however, Anna's heart was thumping like crazy.

In her mind, she was asking herself, 'What is he announcing? Could it be that he finally got enlightened and would be proposing?'

Meanwhile, the other ladies were exploding inside. Even though the gaze was brief, the fact that he did that made the ladies feel as if they had lost before they even stood at the starting line.

How could that be fair?

Only if they were acquainted with the Meyers in the first place like the Hilary's then maybe this chance would be theirs.

On the other side, Bertha, with her sharp eyes, noticed that brief gaze and for a moment, her fists clenched, startling her young lover who was by her side.

'Who angered the tigress again?' he shuddered at the thought of his lover going berserk in such a place.
