As Qin Ju walked out of the guesthouse, her resolve was unwavering. Shen Yi was now firmly off-limits. Not once did she glance back, her eyes fixed ahead with a steely determination.
Shen Yi, trailing a few steps behind, lifted his gaze towards her retreating figure.
---
As for Shen Yi... she'd stay as far away from him as possible this time!
With that resolve in mind, Qin Ju didn't even glance at Shen Yi as she walked out.
Shen Yi, who had been trailing a few steps behind her, lifted his head .His eyes were a mixture of confusion and something softer, a lingering gentleness that betrayed his feelings. He watched as she moved away, his own thoughts hidden behind a composed exterior.
---
The guesthouse where they were staying was the cheapest one in the provincial capital, with beds costing just three yuan a night. If it hadn't been necessary to stay for two nights, the school wouldn't have been willing to spend even that much.
The room had four beds. When Qin Ju entered, she found two girls sitting on the bed near the window, their expressions complicated as they looked at her.
"I didn't expect Qin Ju to be so brazen."
"I told you she liked Shen Yi, but she wouldn't admit it. Now look at what she's done!"
"She's just trying to get close to Shen Yi because his family is rich. She probably thinks if she hooks up with him, she won't need to go to college or get a job."
"With her poor grades, how could she get into any university anyway?"
The girls whispered quietly, but Qin Ju's sharp hearing caught every word.
Her eyes flashed coldly as she spoke, her voice steady. "Tell me, what exactly did I do?"
The short-haired girl stammered, "Do we really need to repeat that shameful incident? We all saw it with our own eyes!"
"Yeah! It's so embarrassing! You were lying together, and I bet you'll be having a baby soon!"
Qin Ju leaned back against the bed and raised an eyebrow.
"Do you really think lying next to someone can make you pregnant? You should go back and read your biology textbook carefully. And if you're still confused, ask your parents how you came into this world."
The girls' faces turned crimson at her words.
Qin Ju sneered inwardly. These girls knew nothing yet spread rumors as if they were facts.
In her previous life, she had been ruined by such seemingly innocent ignorance.
As the saying goes, even a drop of water can drown a person. A single careless word could be the final straw that breaks the camel's back!
Just then, Lin Nian pushed the door open and entered the room.
Qin Ju crossed her arms, her expression calm but pointed as she said, "Shen Yi and I didn't do anything. We were framed. And if I find out who did it, I won't let them off easily!"
The two girls looked confused, but Lin Nian, who had just entered, couldn't hide the brief flicker of panic that crossed her face. She quickly regained her composure and spoke in a concerned tone, "Alright, it's getting late. Teacher Li asked us to rest early. We have to catch the bus at 5:30 tomorrow morning, so let's all get some sleep."
Lin Nian was popular in the class, known for her good temper and excellent grades. Many classmates admired her.
After she spoke, the two girls didn't say anything further. They quickly climbed into bed and covered themselves with their blankets.
Qin Ju, however, kept her eyes on Lin Nian, studying her with clear, calm eyes and a small smile that sent a shiver down Lin Nian's spine. Flustered, Lin Nian hurried to turn off the lights.
As the room plunged into darkness, Qin Ju's thoughts raced. She needed to find evidence of Lin Nian's involvement in the setup, but just as she began to formulate a plan, a sudden pain surged through her head, and everything went black.
---
When she finally opened her eyes, Qin Ju found herself in a strange, ten-square-meter space.
The walls were bare, with no windows in sight, yet the room was brightly lit by an unknown source.
The space was empty, except for a well in one corner, its water clear and inviting.
Qin Ju walked over, scooped up some of the water, and drank it down in one gulp.
So sweet!
Qin Ju hadn't eaten much all day, and being in her growth phase, she had been feeling hungry for quite some time. But staying at the guesthouse late at night meant there was nothing to eat.
After taking a few sips of the spring water, however, she not only felt full but also energized!
Qin Ju was thrilled, realizing that this spring water was something special. Perhaps it had other uses beyond just quenching hunger! And this space—if she could enter and exit freely and bring things in—would be a game-changer!
Eager to test it out, Qin Ju focused her mind on leaving the space, and in the next moment, she found herself back on the hard single bed in the guesthouse.
Excited by her discovery, she quickly tried again, successfully bringing a book into the space.
The more she experimented, the more exhilarated she became. Sleep was now impossible. As she lay awake, she noticed Lin Nian, who slept near the door, quietly getting up, dressing, and slipping out of the room.
Curious, Qin Ju put on her clothes and followed her out quietly.
She saw Lin Nian heading toward the empty room—the same room where she and Shen Yi had been found lying together earlier.
In the darkness, a sly smile curved Qin Ju's lips. It seemed Lin Nian had left something important behind in that room. Thinking quickly, Qin Ju pulled out a simple ballpoint pen and flicked it at Lin Nian's back before retreating back into the space.
Startled, Lin Nian spun around, looking nervously into the shadows, even checking the corners of the hallway.
Taking advantage of the distraction, Qin Ju slipped into the room and locked the door behind her.
Lin Nian soon approached the door, but when she tried to push it open, she found it firmly locked.
Suppressing a grin, Qin Ju pinched her nose and imitated a gruff male voice, "Who's there? It's the middle of the night—are you crazy?"
Terrified to discover someone was inside, Lin Nian bolted without a second thought.
After scaring Lin Nian away, Qin Ju began to search the room. Lin Nian had been so anxious, likely remembering something important she'd left behind, but it wasn't safe to turn on the lights. She didn't want to draw any attention, so finding the item would be challenging.
Qin Ju pulled out a flashlight and started searching carefully, bit by bit.
Suddenly, a voice from behind startled her. "Are you looking for something?"
Her heart pounded as she spun around, the flashlight beam landing on Shen Yi's unnervingly pale face.
She nearly screamed, but Shen Yi quickly covered her mouth.
They were close—uncomfortably close—just like in her previous life, when two people who despised each other were forced to share a bed. Their bodies had been warm, but their hearts cold.
A faint smile played across Shen Yi's dark eyes. "If you scream, they'll find us together again."
