The Change

Was this an illusion? Was this a hallucination from isolation for so long? I felt something had shaken. Was this fish or other aquatic creatures? This was too big to be them... Too big. The shaking became worse. I was jumping and hitting all crazy inside the darkness. The silence inside the chest was broken by a loud sound... really loud sound. A sound so powerful I could visualize its impact.

I wasn't just visualizing. The walls of the chest around be started to be torned apart. Water gushing into it pushed me with pressure, completely destroying the whole chest. It didn't stopped there. I was then carried by the massive underwater waves in humongus force. It was like getting launched by an explosion. Little did I know, my guess wasn't that far off.

Amidst the chaos, I saw other sea lives being killed and obliterated till even their skeleton turned smithereens with the force. Was this a storm? But a storm could not reach the bottom of the ocean's depth. After getting launched above the surface, I saw the surface world was also not looking well. The sky was turning reddish orange. The trail of smoke could be seen heading. from miles away. Said trails came from above the night sky.

The shockwaves vaporized and cleared out the waters in the sea and ground beneath them also cracked in heat before being engulfed by the fiery explosion. The seagulls had been roasted into overcooked ashes. The scattered rocks transformed into the smaller asteroids and continuously fueled the amount of devastation. Thanks to the toughness of the materials used to create me, I only got a few scratches and minor damages on my body.

I didn't know when I would stopped flying around. I had been flying horizontally for hours. Then, the acceleration started to slow down little by little. With the sound "Plop", I dropped into the shallow water near an island. The world was then covered in smokes with no sunlight. The plants on the island were pale and lifeless. There were no sound of living creatures. All were dead. After the great and powerful sound, there was a silence again.

Everywhere had been transformed into hellish wasteland. The bodies of marine creatures floating on water was haunting. Their corpses were forming mountains of fleshy pastes. The only entity capable of thought around there was me. And since, no one would be alive to pick me up, I would be here longer than the time I was in the chest.

Years and years had passed again. And I could see the progress of landscapes unfolding slowly in front of me. Sea levels rose, flooding parts of the beach and lifting me farther inside the island. Waves, tides, and storms eroded the beach, carrying sand and rocks to different areas around the island. Cliffs and headlands along the coast broke down, depositing more materials into the ocean. rocky or pebbly shores were formed as softer sediments were washed away.

I saw new ecosystems formed in coastal areas. Colorful plants that somehow resembled rocks in shallow waters and tall wet trees with tentacle like roots guarding the coastline from tides were things I had never seen before. Several marine life with new shapes and forms were thriving. The sky became clearer over time accompanied by the sounds of actual living organisms. But the sound of life only came from the water. The land above remained silent...until one day.

One not so different day, a fish approached the tip of beach. Was it looking for something. But there was nothing to be looked for... no friend, no family. It got closer and closer more then stopped. I thought there was only two possible route it could take. Either going back to the sea or continue staying still. But it moved, further toward the land. Did that fish demanded death. It was moving slowly but I didn't see it struggling. I was so focused by it determination, I didn't even noticed it was already on land.

When I realized where it was, before questioning myself on how, I saw its fins. They were lifting its body up like limbs. In past, I had heard of legends of creatures called 'mermaids' that can live on both land and water. But mermaids were half human, half fish. And this is just a fish. If I remembered correctly, fishes could not even breath on land, let alone walking. I was seeing a miracle in real time. The fish then walked into the island, and was never seen again.

More and more years had passed. The once quiet land had revealed its voice after eons. The stranged lizard like creatures emerged from the green wilderness. Some were flying above the air exiting and entering the island while some with monstrous sizes were roaming near the coastlines. I had never seen such things back in old world. It was like I was in whole another world.

More years had passed. The lizard like creatures became smaller with some developing feathers. The hairy humanoid creatures with smaller body than that of humans appeared. One of them tried to used me as a tool to crack open a coconut. Luckily, it found a better rock to use before it threw me away. Over time, they seemed to had lost their tails slowly as their body became bigger. They then eventually transformed into humans. This was completely different from origin story of humans I heard in past. The past where I was in... what was that place name again?
