The art exhibition was wrapping up, and the crowd was starting to thin. The necklace, a breathtaking phoenix pendant, was now snugly clasped around Laura's delicate neck, where it rightfully belonged. The ruby centerpiece caught the warm glow of the lights, making it shimmer with every little movement she made.

"Perfect," I murmured.
Laura looked up at me, her lips curling into a playful smirk. "You're staring again, Mr. Robbins."
I shrugged, unashamed. "Can you blame me? You're the most captivating thing in this room."
Her cheeks flushed, and she bit her lower lip, something she always did when she was flustered. God, she had no idea how crazy that little habit drove me.
