Chapter 12

"I don't view this as a favorable plan,"

Nova remarked to Sphen, crossing her arms and averting her gaze as they approached an enormous building.

"She likely has a valid reason for proposing all of this, and I'm not entirely opposed to it,"

Sphen answered as they continued toward the structure.

"The high table has decreed that he must remain within Veilwatch, making this plan completely contradictory to their orders; there will be repercussions,"

Nova stated to Sphen.

"I still fail to understand why I'm being dragged into all of this,"

Nova added.

"Isn't it clear? She has more faith in you than anyone else, and you two have a close friendship,"

Sphen responded to Nova.

"It's quite questionable for someone who's often absent and hasn't reached out in years to be considered my friend; just to clarify, she's not,"

Nova replied as they neared the building.

Inside the structure, there was a vast area encased in glass, with a spacious center, while the surrounding bricks glowed upon contact.

They found Kaela and Kyle examining their environment inside the building and around the glassy edifice.

"I was starting to think you had forgotten we were waiting here,"

Kaela said when she noticed Nova and Sphen enter to join them.

"We needed to discuss a few things first, my apologies,"

Sphen responded to Kaela as they gathered together.

"To be honest, Kyle, this mission isn't officially sanctioned, which is why we need this location for traveling between realms; on another note, it also serves as a test,"

Sphen informed them.

"Kyle, just so you're aware, this operation is set to take place in your city, specifically at the Polygon Night Club in Utah,"

Nova stated to Kaela and Kyle.

"Polygon Night Club in Utah?"

Kyle exclaimed, surprised at Nova's announcement.

"Yes, is there an issue?"

Nova asked Kyle coldly.

"No, it's just that the Polygon Night Club has a notorious reputation for people disappearing without a trace, yet the police have found no evidence suggesting those individuals ever visited the club,"

Kyle explained, a hint of concern in his voice.

"That's why you're heading there to conduct an investigation; people going missing and the earthly guardians failing to locate them implies the involvement of a demon,"

Sphen replied to Kyle.

"The ongoing silence and absence of any disturbances indicate that a demon is concealing its presence and staying hidden,"

Nova stated to the group.

"A type five or type four would not act this way, as their soul signatures are easily detectable. Additionally, they tend to create complications and usually avoid covering their tracks. This indicates that the demons involved are likely type three or lower," Kaela articulated to the group.

"It seems you've gained substantial knowledge at Heaven's Keep; I'm quite impressed. A nightclub serves as an excellent place to harvest numerous innocent souls," Sphen remarked to Kaela, a smile gracing his lips.

"Since Kyle is classified as a type two vanguard, a type three like you, Kaela, is essential to accompany him on this mission. However, if things deviate from our expectations, Nova will be ready to provide support for both of you," Sphen explained as they commenced their walk toward the vast area at the heart of the glassy structure.

"By the way, why are we going at night?" Kyle inquired with curiosity.

"Humans exhibit less activity at night, which makes them easier to eliminate compared to daytime. The place we are heading to is a nightclub, Kyle," Nova replied coldly, clearly irritated.

"Oh, I get it now," Kyle responded calmly, sensing the annoyance emanating from Nova.

"Don't fret; you'll gain plenty of knowledge on this journey. For now, prepare yourself," Sphen said soothingly to Kyle, offering a gentle smile.

"Prepare for what?" Kyle questioned, intrigued.

Suddenly, a massive beam of light shot down from above, propelling them toward the ground. Kyle, along with Nova and Kaela, found themselves moving forward through a beam of light enveloped in total darkness.

Among the trio, only Kyle was in a state of panic, struggling to regain his balance as he spun uncontrollably in various directions.

Unfazed by Kyle's predicament, Nova glided effortlessly through the beam of light.

"Let go, Kyle," Kaela shouted, urging him as they continued their journey through the light.

"What??" Kyle shouted back in confusion.

The velocity at which they traveled made it challenging for sound to keep pace; they were moving at light speed, outstripping sound entirely.

Kaela had no choice but to glide smoothly toward Kyle, grasping him and wrapping her arms around his torso to synchronize their movements.

"Focus on me, Kyle. Look into my eyes," Kaela instructed calmly, holding his gaze.

So close that he could hear her breathing, Kyle was once again struck by her beauty, his cheeks flushing red under the intensity of the moment.

So fixated on her was he that the world around him faded from his mind. It had been a long time since he had been this close to a girl, and never before had he felt the firmness of her grip. This experience enveloped Kyle in a sense of tranquility.

"Embrace the current; you must merge with it," Kaela advised as she gradually released her hold on him.

Kyle then started to float through the radiant beam of light, maintaining his composure effortlessly.

"Look, you're managing it now," Kaela exclaimed joyfully as she adjusted her position, propelling herself ahead and drawing away from Kyle.

Noticing Kaela speed ahead, Kyle mirrored her movements, allowing himself to surge forward in pursuit of her.

"Just let the current guide you, and you'll be fine, I assure you," Kaela encouraged as Kyle caught up to her.

Together, they glided through the luminous beam, determined to overtake Nova, who had already surged ahead, leaving them far behind.
