THE KILLING INTENT

"Eating in the middle of the night? Aren't you afraid you will turn into a pig?" Logan asked. He sauntered into the kitchen lazily and grabbed a bottle of bourbon. He didn't bother to find a glass, though.

Because of her line of work, River didn't find pleasure in drinking. She didn't feel safe whenever she was not a hundred percent alert.

Knowing it was just Logan, River continued what she was going to do, ignoring his last comment completely. She even turned away and pretended he didn't exist there.

But her coldness pissed Logan off.

"Did you not hear me?" Logan sat down on the island, frowning at his sister. He unscrewed the bottle and gulped down the liquid.

Logan had his hair in a spiky haircut with piercings in both of his ears. He was used to dressing very casually and people's first impression of him wouldn't be good, especially with their family's circle of business.

His choice of style would be in contention in the Rose family. Grayson and Dylan had tried to talk to him, but he didn't budge.

The more they disapproved of his lifestyle, the more Logan would act out to the point, they let him be.

"I am talking with you," Logan said. He threw the lid of the bottle at his sister's back, but before it could hit her, River turned around and caught it. She then flicked it back, hitting him squarely in the head. "The fuck!" Logan jumped from the island, he was mad!

"Stay away from me!" River growled, her eyes brimming with malice. This was a kitchen, where she could easily find equipment to gut his guts.

Logan suddenly stopped in his tracks, because he found something unusual about his sister. Let alone throw something to his face, his sister didn't even dare to look him in the eyes, but right now, not only did she glare at him, but he could also sense this killing intent rolled off her.

"I must be very drunk…" Logan mumbled under his breath. He shook his head. "If you are going to make something, make some for me too!" He shouted back, not because he wanted to eat something, but because he didn't want her to one up him.

River didn't listen to him and started to cook her food. Of course, she was not this brat's maid, she was not going to listen to him.

As River, she was way older than Logan. Hazel was only twenty one and Logan was two years older than her, but River was twenty nine. She wouldn't bicker with an immature man-child like him.

Of course, Michael was an exception, he was the only immature adult that she could accept. It was a pity that his older brother was a complete jackass.

"I didn't know that you can cook," Logan commented. By now, he had drunk a quarter of the bottle. River wondered how he could drink that much and still be able to look very much sober.

River was determined to find an apartment as soon as possible with the money she got from Ranon. She couldn't live in this house, especially with the way they mistreated Hazel. She was afraid her impulsiveness would win and she would end up getting rid of the whole Rose family, as they annoyed her to the core.

"Where is my portion?"

"You don't think that you can eat it all, right?"

"You are a woman, you need to diet!"

"Hey! Can't you hear me?!"

"Hey! Don't ignore me!"

"Hey!"

River had enough, she grabbed a knife and moved so fast, pressing the sharp edge against his throat in the next moment. This movement was very fast and not in a million years Logan would have expected this. Was he drunk? Why did he feel like his sister was going to kill him?

"Talk again and I will cut your mouth from your left ear to your right ear," River hissed in a low voice, her eyes sparkled under the light and they looked so eerie in such close proximity. "Go back to your room and drink there. Don't ever bother me."

Logan wanted to fight back, but the sharp blade against his neck reminded him not to act recklessly.

"Nod your head if you understand."

Logan nodded.

"Good. Now, scram."

River backed away and let Logan rush toward his bedroom, he didn't forget to curse her out, but at this point, River didn't care, she was hungry and this was a long and exhausting day. She just wanted to get some rest before her mind exploded.

There were a lot of things for her to figure out and to think about. She needed to start her revenge plan, but the first step was to get out of this house.

By the time River finished enjoying her meal, it was already way past midnight and only two hours before the sunrise. In this case, it couldn't be helped that River would sleep for a whole morning.

Once she was done, she returned to her bedroom and was about to sleep, but she checked her laptop first, she didn't expect anything, she did just it out of habit.

But to her surprise, there was an email from Ranon. She widened her eyes, because she didn't expect that man could manage to track her down, she sent a one way message, which meant, the other person couldn't reply to her, nor would they be able to trace it back to her.

But there, sitting in her inbox, was Ranon's reply.

River immediately checked the email and was even more shocked when she read the contents. Not only Ranon could reply to her email, but he also knew that it was her, who had sent the warning.

His email was very precise, just like him.

He told her about the aphrodisiac incident and informed her that was all her brother, Dylan's doing.

"He works so fast… no wonder he managed to get the Leighton family out from bankruptcy." She had to give it to him.

But, at the end of the email, Ranon asked to meet with her.
