Bai Ming came closer, with a clenched fist, and knocked on the body. After knocking once, he did not try again. Still looking at the beast's body, it felt as if he was knocking on a stone.
"It's rock solid," Chi Huo, who had also felt the same sensation through his hammer like weapon, spoke.
Everyone could also understand this after listening to the sound that came off from the previous strike.
"I'm sure all of you have felt it clearly, the cold in your body. We need to hurry and not waste time or, at the very least, find a place to warm ourselves up. I hope I don't have to explain to you all what would happen if we stay here for too long, "he said, looking back to the frozen body.
Everyone present seemed to understand this.
It was still dark, and they needed to move fast. With that said, they started to move again. Although it seemed as if their pace had quickened a bit, they were still a bit slow. It was not easy to move with the snow covering the ground to half of their lower legs.
At a certain point, Li Tian, who was carrying Mu Bai, noticed something in the distance and pointed in that direction.
"Look up ahead," everyone heard him and turned over to look.
Just as the rest of the group, Bai Ming squinted his eyes in that direction. With the help of the moonlight, further in the distance, they could see three faint hill like figures in the distance, and on their far-right side, there seemed to be a figure larger than the rest.
Looking at it, it appeared to have pointy tops.
"A building?"One said
Cui Rong seemed to have a guess, but before she could say, Bai Ming had opened his open ahead of time.
"No, a castle, perhaps?"he said.
Hearing this, everyone turned to look at him with looks that seemed to say, "When have you seen a castle to speak so surely?"but Bai Ming just shrugged his shoulders because even he wasn't exactly sure.
"Have you guys thought of why there's such a large building in this desolate place?"Li Tian asked.
This was indeed the most important question. However, none of the people present could give an answer.
"Dwelling on such things is pointless, whether it's a castle or not, whether the owner is at home doesn't truly matter. Right now, we need to get ourselves warm before we turn into icicles."Chi Hao said.
It was truly logical, but others felt that they might be forgetting their purpose here.
"Is it not better to first check those hills first?" Bai Ming said, feeling a bit agitated.
He did not know why, but the castle in the distance did not give him a pleasant feeling.
As the others heard his words, Si Niang also chimed in.
"Yes, I also think we check for clues on those hills. After all, we're already reaching our limit, and I have just given Mu Bai the last medicine you gave me. Without anymore of it, Mu Bai won't last long if we keep wasting time. "
At this point, they had already confirmed that Mu Bai had gotten the poison in this foreign land and could not be the beast corpse they saw earlier. Its fur had also frozen, and its body was still unscathed. There was simply no identifiable point open wound or blood which one could make contact with to truly be infected. And that is the case, then it meant that Mu Bai had gotten the poison from somewhere else in this frozen land.
It was even highly likely that there were more clues to this poison here, all they had to do was find them but given how time did not seem to favor them, they had to set their priorities straight before doing anything rash.
Hearing this point, Chi Hao's mouth twitched a bit.
Was this guy actually taking the chance to ask him for another bottle?
"Are you taking medicine for food? What do you think poisons are exactly?"
But how could Si Niang answer these questions? What did he know about herbs and healing?
Chi Huo looked at him as if he was looking at an idiot. At this point in time, he did not want to give him any more hopes, so he immediately shot down his point.
"It's pointless. Those medicines can not be used indefinitely."
"What…"
"…Why"
"Even if I were to explain it in detail, you would not truly understand, but what I can tell you is that there are different kinds of poisons. To strong poisons like these, they are not truly eradicated and can adapt to the medicines we make."
Chi Huo felt like adding more but decided to stop. It was just pointless. The point he had wanted to make was simply that poisons like these only require a sure kill remedy, not stop gap measures, which would only serve to make the poison turn resistant. If that were to truly happen, then the people in the group poisoned would have no choice but to wait for death quietly.
It was a bit of a shame because what Si Niang did not know was that the ones he was given were the only ones Chi Huo had on hand.
Si Niang wanted to argue further, but Chi Huo would not allow it. He did not want to die pointlessly.
He just turned around and started to move heading to the castle in the distance
"If you guys want to go to those hills, then be my guess, but i'm going to the castle."
There was nothing the group could do at this point. They could only follow Chi Huo. He was still the healer who would have to analyze the poison source when they found it. Without a choice, everyone followed in his steps.
However, after only taking a few steps, Cui Rong, who was at the front of the group, stopped and raised her hand to signal everyone to stop. Everyone behind her, seeing this stopped.
"What is it, lady Rong?" Bai Ming inquired.
Chi Huo, who was walking ahead, also paused when he heard that the sound of footsteps that served to indicate that there were people following behind him had stopped. Turning to look behind him, he saw Cui Rong standing ahead of everyone with her hand raised.
She tilted her head, looking to the people behind her as if trying to listen to something. Everyone also perked their ears and tried to listen. In that moment, they heard faint footsteps, which seemed to indicate that someone was approaching. But after a careful thought, they seem to ask themselves, "Who else could be in this place except for them?"
There were a few possibilities, but no one wanted to take unnecessary risks, so everyone withdrew their weapons and turned to face the back where the footsteps were coming from. Li Tian and Wu Zhengyi could not engage in combat whilst carrying Mu Bai, so they could only shift closer in the direction of the castle, which was now the far back of the group.
