Shortly after Dao Gu disappeared, a faint translucent figure appeared in front of the group. Its figure seemed to be human, but its face lacked the features that could clearly distinguish it among its own race.
Its face had no eyes and was only composed of a nose and a gap below it, which one could only guess to be its mouth.
The figure floating let out a chuckle.
"My my, this bunch is worse than the one that came before."
No one else was beside this figure, but the few words it let out didn't even reach the ears of Bai Ming's group. It looked as if the figure was just mumbling to itself. Bai Ming's group didn't even know that there was another person in the same space as them.
Looking at the group below and the rotten meat paste, the figure remained silent and investigated each of them.
In a very short moment, the assessment was done.
The figure's gaze landed on the whole group and only spat, "Wastes"
In the figure's eyes, those who had a lower cultivation base were trash, but what about those who had not yet embarked on the path of immortality?
If there was a thing that is worse than a waste then perhaps Bai Ming's group would surely fit the description.
Still looking at this group, the figure felt a hint of familiarity though faint. Of course this wasn't the first time it had felt like this. A couple moments before Bai Ming's group another group had entered this palace and ended up awakening the figure.
The figure had already decided to use the bunch as nourishment. Though it knew these sort of meat bags with no internal enerrgy were not of much use besides just delaying death. The figure still led the group to have tea with the king of hell.
As the old saying goes, beggars can't be choosers. Thinking deeply of this sense of familiarity the figure seemed to show some fixed emotions.
"Are these really the outer branch of that old man's sect?"
The figure words seemed to carry a sympathetic tone to this fact. Among them all, it had already noticed Cui Rong even though her future prospects seemed much better than everyone else, but in the figure's eyes, she was no different from the rest.
An ant.
Even if someone tried to at least show a difference in their levels, it was just a slightly better ant.
However, the figure seemed to have noticed something and its mouth curled upwards.
"Hahaha"
Its laughed reverberated in this small space but the bunch below were not able to hear anything.
"Another descendant"
The figure's laugher did not go for long. In a short moment its flat expression which didn't seem to contain any emotion appeared again.
If anyone were able to take a peek into the figure's mind there would see a lot of questions everywhere.
"What is attracting these mortals here? Could it be that the secret of this is now known in the outside world?"
"No that is not possible, if that were truly the case then i'd not be seeing mortals but cultivators."
"Although i can't get the full picture, the souls that have been devoured from the previous group showed me that these people are not familiar with seeking immortality. From what i can tell, that lad who was leading them seems to have led them here out of the thrill for adventure."
"With my level of existence being higher i highly doubt those mortals could hide anything from me, if it wasn't because their souls were too weak i would have easily understood whats happening."
To an existence like him this was a simple matter that could easily be resolved but its years of trials and tribulations had instilled in it a strong sense of caution. It did not dare to show any negligence to such a matter.
"Its been nearly five thousand years, there can't be anyone who still remembers this seat and even if they were, they would not really have found any clues of this palace. Those that know of this palace only have bones left."
Ignoring these groups was impossible, If these people coming in the palace had been sent by a force in this region then the figure's whereabouts might already be known and it may end up being forced into a trap.
Thinking of this the figure felt as if a scar had been scratched.
The figure stopped thinking of these any further knowing that this wouldn't give the answers it needed.
"Since this is the case then i can only go along for now and figure out the rest later on"
In fact had already made a rough plan. There was only one way to get more information, and that was to devour more of these mortals until the picture becomes clear enough.
In that moment, the figure felt its own path resonate with something.
"Hmm, it seems that they are not all wastes,"
The figure traced the resonance back to an inconspicuous person among the group. Even this figure had to admit that it had completely ignored this person.
The figure's gaze landed on the fellow in front of the group with black hair, which seemed to only be shoulder length. There were no key features on this fellow, and he seemed to be completely ordinary, but the figure did not doubt its senses.
As a person who had been on the path for over a thousand years, the figure did not dare to ignore or doubt its senses, which had been honed in all that time. At their level, they could at least get a sense of destiny.
In that moment, on the figure's face opened two slits which seemed to be a pair of glowing eyes. The figure looked at the young man and peered into his spirit and found nothing out of the ordinary.
After a few more tries, the figure seemed to feel exhausted.
"How strange, a mortal's soul can not give me such a hard time."
Of course, it was not as if there were clear obstructions, making it difficult to inspect this fellow. Rather, this fellow's spirit just seemed just as ordinary as any other human.
If it were anyone else inspecting, they would have thought that maybe their senses were playing tricks on them, but that was not the case for this figure. There was nothing wrong with the fellow below. He just seemed too ordinary to find any fault. Even so, the figure felt that the resonance before must not have been a mistake.
As a thousand-year-old monster, the figure had also encountered such instances where something extraordinary would be masked by an ordinary layer.
In other instances, it was just that the extraordinary treasure would be hidden deeply to the point where even those who claimed to be heaven's chosen would fail miserably.
It was either one of these cases, the figure thought without doubting anything.
"No, this cannot go on any further. I have already exhausted all the means this divine sense body can use."
The figure lifted its chin up a bit. It was not angered or dissatisfied in any way. Instead, it felt its curiosity peeked.
"Since I can't find the source of the resonance, then I can only lead it to my true body. I'd like to see if this veil can block my true body. But before that..."
The figure coldly smiled and looked at the fellow's mind.
After looking at the young man's mind, the figures eyes narrowed into tiny slits.
"Sure enough…"
It seemed the rest of its thoughts had not managed to manifest, but the figure had actually chosen to be reserved.
Meanwhile, Bai Ming, who stood below there, had already managed to gather his thoughts and sort out his next steps. He was just about to try and join in on the rest of the group's next plans, but it was at this point that he suddenly felt sharp gaze land on him.
His body immediately stiffened, and his back went cold.
He was now familiar with this kind of feeling. It was just like the time when Dao Gu had been looking at him in strange space. Although he didn't know where he was at that time, he was still able to discern that someone or thing was watching him.
And this time, he could not clearly discern the location of the gaze, but out of reflex, his head faced sideways, and with the corner of his eye, he found nothing out of the ordinary.
His brows creased in confusion.
This did not make much of a sense to him because not even a minute had passed since the moment Dao Gu's voice vanished in his mind. So why would there be another gaze.
Even though he did not see anything, the feeling he got from this made him sure that the owner of this gaze was not Dao Gu, and the pressure he got from the gaze was a bit different.
To be precise, compared to the pressure he felt from Dao Gu, the pressure he felt a moment ago was too weak.
Bai immediately put aside these thoughts and tried to approach the group once more, but it was at this moment that an unfamiliar voice echoed inside his mind.
"Since you can sense this senior's gaze, then you should not be green horn"
